Dr. Indies's weekly top 60 charts for 2023 and back archives

[Doc Indie Party Rock]

Paramore might be experiencing some "Hard Times" on the actual alternative list, but right here they hold strong to the #1 position for a second week. Not much movement in the top 10, but Katy Perry scores another top 10 hit with "Chained To The Rhythm". The real action is in the 11-20 slots, where we have many songs moving in closer to the top 10. Among those are new bands, Greta van Fleet. Dr. Indie Countdown favorites; Fickle Friends, and Lemon Demon with his first top 20 hit on my charts. The showcase hit goes to Indie rock band; King-No-One for their hit "Alcatraz". After ten weeks in the chart, it makes an impressive jump into the top 40. We also have three debuts. DREAMCATCHER debut with their dark K-pop hit; "Goodnight". Indie Rockers; Bleeker, score their second top 50 hit with the Lp version of "Where's Your Money", and the highest debut goes to Carly Rae Jepsen for her upbeat pop number, "Cut To The Feeling" . All three of my debuts also get new fan made cover art. Once Again ;debuts in Green, Hot moves in Blue , and song's peak in ()

HOT List: Let's get right into the action, as I found two great songs with strong appeal for my top 50 in the weeks to come. First; I finally found some really cool tracks off Foster The People's latest album. The one that really hit me has a great Strokes vibe. I'm also loving the song's title; "Lotus Eater". This is the one I would have expected Alt to chart. Next we have new music from the Latina Godess; Demi Lovato. This song really shows off her vocal talents. It's actually a really great R&B song,called "Sorry Not Sorry" . My only gripe is the percussion during the chorus. Not my style, but the MV more than makes up for that and I don't really care what goes on around her, because all I see is Demi in a pool of bubbles.

DIAMANTE is ready to go Top 50, but this week she holds the #1 spot for one more week, so we could have a brand new #1 next week?  The strong contenders include, Royal Blood, September Mourning and Alice Cooper. Paramore holds down the #1 position for a third week with "Hard Times". The top 5 has been very competitive for a few months now, but this week the New Wave band ; Ice Choir break in with "Windsurf" a song , best described, as a 1986, long lost hit. Speaking of 1986, there is another song breaking into my top 10 songs from Lemon Demon with that same new Wave vibe. This song was first brought to my attention by wheatsquares33 , and then by youtube chanel New Vice City. It's been in my chart for eighteen weeks now, and doesn't show signs of slowing down. Three new songs debut. We have brand new Indiepop by The Wayfareres in the form of the "boppy" ,"KINGS". Debut number two is from Cheap Trick. It's great to see a 70's/80's iconic band still popular in the Active charts. Here on my charts, these are the bands and sounds that define my musical tastes and "Long Time Coming" makes its debut at #43. Finally, and debuting right above label mates; Nothing More;,is my former number one, (Glam)Metal song, from DIAMANTE called "Coming In Hot". This is the perfect Summer Rock song, and will surely cause havok on my weekly chart. HOT List: Let's start off with some new Indiepop from Grizzly Bear called "Morning Sound". Don't know much about this band, but I know I'm digging this song. Next up is new music from my favorite Glam band that is not from the 70's or 80's. It's The Struts with their new song "One Night Only" . Next is one of my favorite IndiePop favorites, DWNTWN with their new single. It's from their new album "Racing Time" that once again features Synthpop and Indie Poprock. "Bloodshot Eyes" has a really cool Alt Indie rock sound. My last debut is a new song out of nowhere from one of my favorite bands of all time. It's Atlas Genius with their new single "63 Days". They better give this one proper promotion to go top 10.

HOT List: Without wasting anytime, let's go straight to my favorite new song of the week. I actually just heard it last night, but I already know, the latest from Neon Trees, aptly entitled, "Feel Good" will be a strong contender on my charts, in the weeks to come. The feel good vibe of the band, is stronger than ever, and I hope them some huge success on the actual charts as well. Pick hit #2, is "Perfect Places" from Lorde. This one has more of the sound from her first album, and she looks hot in the MV too. I only hope it keeps climbing on the actual charts as well. My third Add of the week, is a spectacular Indie Synthpop, song ,I discovered this week ,from a band called NEON LIGHTS. Not sure, but I think they from Russian origin? What I am sure is that, the lead singer has perfect vocals, and "1000" will surely have a nice ride to the top of my charts.

Top 10 New Metal Songs



There is a brand new #1 song from supergroup Skillet, and it's the one I was hoping would be released as a single. Finally "Resistance" sees the light, and hopefully can outpeak, "Back From The Dead" on the Active chart, because it wasn't too good to begin with. The second new song is some scorching new Southern rock from Shamen's Harvest, called "The Come Up". I also got the new music video for you.

This week we have an incredible looking list. A lot of movement in the top 10, including a brand new number one song, that takes the top spot, due to all the 80's hype, going around on my charts, this summer. It's "Windsurf" from the synthpop band ,Ice Choir, whose sound could be described as a mix of OMD and Tears For Fears. The top 10 also features two Phoenix songs, with one of those already in the top 3. The other is "J-Boy", another song, the actual Alternative charts , have let slip through their fingers this year. We also have three new debuts this week. First is Kim Wilde with her cover of "Love Will Keep Us Together". Next we have some brand new, great, but overlooked music from, Nothing But Thieves ,called "Amsterdam", and the highest debut from Letters From The Fire, goes to "At War", A beautiful , and Powerful Rock ballad, Which is destined to be a big hit on my chart. Once Again ;debuts in Green, Hot moves in Blue , and song's peak in ()

HOT List: This week I discovered new music inspired from the film "Eddie The Eagle". It's a fictional 80's soundtrack, called "Fly"  by some of Britain's, best of the 80's, icons. At the moment I'm charting songs from Go West, ABC and Kim Wilde. These are just some of the artist on this soundtrack inspired by that movie, and I dare say the songs are even better, because they are originals. Go West - "Determaniation" sounds like a perfect Olympics theme song. ABC's " Living Inside My Heart", sounds like a perfect throwback to 1984 and Kim Wilde, never stops sounding like Kim Wilde. Add to the list new, OMD and you have 1985 covered as well. Next we have a late comer from AOR band Tyketto, with the title track from their album, "Reach".  Great inspirational lyrics and outstanding guitar works should guarantee this song a slot on my charts in the weeks to come.  My pick hit of the week goes to new Indie pop artist; Alice Merton. She has a new song climbing the Alt charts called "No Roots". This song has already been a big hit in Germany. Now it's looking to do the same on our own Alternative charts and my chart as well.

Top 10 New Metal Songs

Skillet holds off Alice Cooper for a second week, with their aptly titled , "The Resistance" . Southern hard Rock from, Shamen's Harvest, in the form of "The Come Up", makes a quick ride into the top 5, and Two new debuts from Frontiers Records make powerful first entrances. Both from late 80's early 90's bands too. At #9 is another track off Tyketto's latest , album, called "Kick Like A Mule" and making a comeback to the rock scene are L.A Guns. They are most remembered  for their top 40 charting hit, "The Ballad Of Jayne". Their latest track is not a powerballd at all, but a rocking, thrashing number, called, "Speed".

This week a new number one song, overthrows the current champs. It's Green Day's "Revolution Radio" taking the top spot from Ice Choir, by jumping from #6 to #1. We also have one new song entering the top 10. It's Swedish band , Tokyo Motor Fist, with their very ;Def Leppard ,sounding , "Pickin' Up The Pieces". In other big news is ,Latina Rock, babe, DIAMANTE, scoring her first top 20 hit on my chart, and there is a full length album in the works too. Three songs go recurrent, which means we have 3 big debuts. We have "Freeze Me". An insanely, catchy new song, from Death From Above; sans the 1979 year., from their band name. Next is new Synthpop from Phases. "Silhouette" is the third song I'm charting from their debut LP, "For Life". Finally , and surely, one of the hottest new songs on the charts, is the brand spanking new song from Neon Trees. This one needs no explanation as the title says it all. "Feel Good" will be massive on this chart. Finally we have three new songs in the top 40, from Foo Fighters, Letters From The Fire and the new Indiepop band; The Wayfareres. HOT List: First off ; I've decided to just pretend, "Goodbye" never existed and jump right into the new Echosmith song, entitled "Future Me" This one has that Synthpop vibe that hits me hard everytime. It should go top 10 with little effort on my chart. Maybe, possibly #1?  The spotlight, in this week's Hot List , belongs to female vocals, and song number two is yet another new song from Indiepop band, The Wayfarers. This one is from the "Wish Upon" soundtrack; which is miles better than the actual movie. The next song is a complete throwback to the 80's brand of New Wave music.  It's from Dutchess Says' album, "Sciences Nouvelles" . "I Repeat Myself" is one, among some great, quirky ,New Wave jems. "Negative Thoughts" also has a great Dark Wave vibe. My last add, are also a return act, who had a big hit on my chart last year. It's the synthpop band ,Fever High, with their own 80's sound. "That's So Typical" is more 85-86, but still damn catchy.

Aside, from the big ,10 notch jump, Neon Trees make with "Feel Good"; there is not too much movement in the chart , but we do have three new debuts. Starting off with , the new Atlas Genius single , called "63 Days". WE also have single ,number three, from Fitz and The Tantrums. HOT List: Let's get right into the action with Shamens Harvest. They are currently on my top Metal songs with,"The Come Up", but it is also making head way on my Hot List. Next is some Indie Rock from a band I have been charting for about two years. It's the latest single from WHITE, called "Fight The Feeling". My third add, and Indie Pick of the week, is a song I just heard last night for the first time. It's from Everything Everything; whom you'll remember, I just charted last month with "Regret". They are back with a rocking new jam called "Desire". This is also one of those songs, you wish would get action on our own Alternative charts, but that is yet to be seen.

This week, we have an incredible chart. Not one, not two, but 5 new debuts. I like to call it "the end of summer clearance". At the same time, we say goodbye to two of my favorite songs of the year, that just missed the #1 position, but have spent more than 12 weeks in the top 10. "20 Below" from September Mourning, and "Machine" from MisterWives ,who reenters the top 50 with their new single, "Coloring Outside The Lines". MisterWives is an act, that has been consistent on my list, since "Reflections" first debuted on my top 50. We got two new songs entering the top 10. Both with strong 80's vibes. One is from The Freeweights; who had the #1 song of 2016, and the other ins the Act, Bleachers, who after 20 weeks on the top 50, break the top 10 with "Don't Take The Money". Great news for fans of this song; for it will most likely go Top 5 before it starts to descend down the list. The other 4 debuts are , new Music from Warrant,called "Perfect", New Indie from Alice Merton, called "Roots", a re-entry from Kim Wilde, and my highest debut, who thanks to a mix tape from my girl friend, crashes in strong onto the top 30. It's the big Alternative hit from The Revivalists, called "Wish I Knew You". This particular song has crossed onto all the genre charts, so I guess It had to crossover onto mine eventually. ;) A few MVs and surprises in the HOT LIST round off this week's chart highlights. HOT List: Let's get right into the action with this week's hottest adds on my playlist. The second single off "Sacred Hearts Club" got an impressive amount of plays,giving Foster The People - Sit Next to Me a strong kick onto the list. Next we got some wonderful new music from Ice Choir. You all remember "Windsurf" with it's strong 80's vibes? This one continues with even more 80's magic. A more mellow Johnny Hates Jazz/ Go West, vibe , but very soothing too. next is the hot new collaboration from Jet and The Bloody Beatroots, called "My Name Is Thunder". There are two versions of the song. A noizy version; which I don't care for and a more AC/DC sounding one; which is the one I'm going for. Last, but not least is some new K-Pop from BLACKPINK, called "As If It's Your Last". This one mainly caught my attention for all the different pop styles it fuses together, but it's still that melody in the chorus that seals the deal with me.

Top 10 New Metal Songs

New music this week from two bands I just discovered. The first one; Wraith, has a very strong Ratt vibe. I'm talkin about early RATT from the Hollywood Strip days. The second song is from a band called All 41; which is supposed to read "All For One" but instead looks like the number 41. Anyway; the song here is called "Cyanide". This one has a strong "Poison" vibe, so Alice Cooper might have to call his people. At the moment, however, he is too busy enjoying his third week at #1 with "Paranormal".

This week we have a brand new #1 song. It's the title track from Pheonix's latest album. The band ,also ,still has two hits in the top 10. The other being, "J-BOY". Two songs move up into the top 5. First if Greta Van Fleet with their new rocker, "Highway Tune" and Fickle Friends, also look to score their biggest hit yet, with "Cry Baby". Three songs leave the chart, leaving vacancies for three new songs. All three from the hard rock world of music. First is, Shamens Harvest scoring their first top 50 hit on my charts with "The Come Up". Next are The Struts, who are no strangers to my top 50. This week they debut with their new song, "One Night Only"., and finally our highest debut goes to the Argentinian band AIR BAG with their ode to AC/DC, on their song "Huracan". HOT List: let's start off with the brand new single from Palaye Royal called "Get Higher". This one has been around about a month and I kept overlooking it until now.  It's especially made for my chart, so it could be getting some quick chart action , as early as next week. The next song is a brand new single from U2. It's no surprise I chart just about every U2 single that is released, and none hardly ever flop on my chart. The new song, "You're The Best Thing About Me" ,could have easily been sung by Bryan Adams, and I would chart it just the same, because it's a great song. For my next song; I'm still deliberating between two, DREAM CAR songs. "After I Confessed" and "All Of The Dead Girls Love Me". I love the Adam Ant/ Icicle Works vibe of my second choice, but both songs are equally great. My last pick is my new favorite song of the week. It's from The Horrors. This band is like The Cure on my side of the border. Their sound is very 80's ranging from Guitar new Wave to straight out synthpop. This new song is soemwhere in between The Human League/M83 and Phoenix new sound. I bring you the premier of "Something To Remember Me By". All six epic minutes of it. 80's lovers should not let this one slip by.

Top 10 New Metal Songs

This week we have a brand new #1 song. It's the new Skillet song , called "The Resistance". It's a fine hard rocker, but what really stands out is that last guitar solo that closes the song. I like it enough to knock down one of my all times shock rock favorite artists,from the #1 position. This week ,"The Come Up" rises into the top 50 songs, leaving a slot open for DIAMNATE's brand new single. It's a bit different; in that it's not, Female Cock rock related lyrics, but she still sound great. I still prefer the sultriness of "Coming In Hot", but this one shows, she can rock with the best of them. This one is actually a bit more apt to compete in the actual Active charts too.

HOT List: This week's list is ,musically, full of adrenaline, as I bring on three new hard rock songs. Normally I would try out these songs in the New Metal songs, section, but these 3 are too hot not to get quick Top 50 action. Let's get right into the craziness with Steel Panther. They are a parody band of the Glam Metal Power Ballad songs of the late 80's and early 90's. They have the right sound, but also add silly cock rock lyrics to the song to add to the fun. Their hot new single is "Wasted Too Much Time" . The MV features another of my favorite hard Rock bands; Stone Sour lip syncing the words to the song. You also get porn stars galore from the likes of Nikki Hearts, Leigh Raven and Charlotte Sartre. Hot Hot! damn. Had I known Melodic Rock was going to make a comeback, I would have never left my Glam Rock Band. > The next song is the new single from Stone Sour, called "Rose Red Violent Blue (This Song Is Dumb & So Am I)". Great hard rock song with a fierce guitar solo and the MV is equally silly, in that it features Stone Sour in drag, and again some help from Steel Panther. The last song is from a band that I had written off since Austin John left them. The band is Hinder, and by mistake I came across a few tracks from their new album, "The Reign". Man ,was I surprised to hear they have some fast melodic tunes on there. A couple of cool Power ballads too. [Doc Indie Party Rock]

The best thing about Personal Rock charts is that there are no rules. At least my chart doesn't have any. This week's chart is all about "no rules" and big exciting surprises.  The first is Steel Panther, coming in hot with "Wasted Too Much Time". This song captures the Glam Power ballad sound of the late 80's . Melody-wise; It reminds me of Warrant's "Sometimes She Cries". The lyrics, however are a complete f**k truck,but that's what makes it so fun. Next come Stone Sour; who return to the top 50 after peaking at #32. A song will usually go Top 10 if I bring it back for round two, so keep your eye on "Song #3". The last two debuts are also Rock. First, are Jet + the Bloody Beatroots with the ROCK version of "My Name Is Thunder" and at #47, are new band ; Palaye Royal with "Get Higher". Let's not forget the HOT action in the top 10. Including, El Ultimo Vecino with "Mi Amiga Salvage" who jumps up six notches to score, their first Top 10 song on my chart. Elsewhere we got Hot moves from DIAMNATE, Tokyo Motor Fist, Free Weights and Phoenix, hanging on to the top spot. for a third week in a row with "Ti Amo".  Once Again ;debuts in Green, Hot moves in Blue , and song's peak in ()

HOT List: Time for some more of my pick hits of the week. A few of these are rock graduating from my Metal Chart to the HOT LIST. Skillet are back with "The Resistance". This song was already #1 on my Metal Chart, so it should debut next week. Next song is the second single from Royal Blood's latest album. This one also got Action on my Metal chart, so welcome aboard, "I Only Lie When I Love You". My sole Indie song this week, is a new band called  Great News.Their new single is stylized as "WONDERFAULT", so that's how I'm writing it too. This one reminds one of 80's Tears For Fears. Particularly the song "Everybody Wants To Rule The World". The last song comes from DREAMCAR. It's a big deal for me which track I choose to chart next, and after repeated listens; I've decided the mellow new wave song, "Slip On The Moon", really showcases Davey's vocals, and sounds perfect for my chart's climate.

This week we start off the excitement with a brand new #1 song It's from the Indie Pop band Fickle Friends. The 3rd time is truly a charm as they score their first number one on my chart. The top 5 is also ,really crowded as both DIAMANTE and Free Weights are also eyeing the their day in the top spot, but for the moment "Cry Baby" holds the spotlight. The song's style? If you like Paramore's "Hard Times", then click on the vid for a nice surprise. A lot more excitement, as the year's highest debut again changes hands. This time it goes to the hard rock band , Fozzy for their new song, "Judas". The other two debuts are returning acts on my charts. First is Night Ranger ; who have never really been absent too long. Their biggest Pop hit was the big  Arena Rock ballad, "Sister Christian" back in 1984. Now they are with Frontiers Records; the label reviving all the great 80's rock bands. They debut with the album track, "Don't Let Up". My last debut of the week goes to Echosmith, who had a big number one Alternative hit on my chart with "Cool Kids". They are back with a new album and a new song called, "Future Me". It's got more of an Indiepop vibe which is perfect for me. This week I'm also adding a new feature called the Top 5 new Indie Tracks chart. Again ;debuts in Green, Hot moves in Blue , and song's peak in ()

HOT List: A few great songs make their way onto the HOT List this week. First is a late comer from Portugal. The Man called "Feel It Still". It's one of the biggest Alternative hits of the year and is now making it's way up my chart as well. For the record I didn't get into "Pumped Up Kicks" until it had already gone to #1 on Alt either. the next if from The Italian hard Rock band , Hell In The Club. If fast melodic pumping iron rock is your style then watch out for "We Are On Fire". The last belongs to the pop diva, Demi Lovato. After a few misses; she finally releases a track I can get into 100% . It's called "Sexy Dirty Love". The style? Just think of her as a feamle Bruno Mars who is bringing back the throwback Club Disco/Funk style of the 80's. A Flawless Pop song IMOP. The last add belongs to K-pop girl group 9MUSES called "Love City". This one also has a throwback style, especially in the chorus.

This week we have a new #1. This week it's from Latina Rocker, DIAMANTE, with her song, "Coming In Hot". Let's see how long she can hang on to the top spot, with her Joan Jett  growl and flawless 80's rock vibe. We also got two new songs entering the Top 10. First is 80's icons; ABC. From their "Lexicon of Love II" album, is the track "Flames of Desire" which perfectly captures their New Romantic sound of the 80's. Now, sometimes you just wish you aware of certain songs when they were popular in the charts. This would bring me to my second debut of the week. It's 7+ old song that I discovered while doing the Top 100 Alternative 2010 songs Rankdown. It comes from a band that I haven't been to keen on the last few times I ranked their songs. This time they really surprised me with the song, "Shameful Metaphors". So much, that here I am charting it for the first time. The fact ,that its shown up again on the Active 2010 rankdown; should give this hot Chevelle, song a nice boost up my charts in the coming weeks. a few music videos; including Saint Motel's new one for, "Destroyer" ,will round out this week's chart highlights. Again ;debuts in Green, Hot moves in Blue , and song's peak in ()

HOT List:  Let's start off this week's adds, with the hot new song from Pale Waves, called "Television Romance" . This one has one hell of a 1975 vibe and jumps in from the Indie top 5 list. The song is great, but I'm not too fond of the song's sleeve art, so I'm working on a new sleeve, that I will hopefully showcase next week. Next comes a former #1 on my Metal Chart from the Foo Fighters. It's also their new song on the charts, called "The Sky Is A Neighborhood"...and no I don't get one Imagine Dragon's vibe from this song at all. LOL! My last add is my favorite song of the week. I mean I couldn't call myself 80's icons if it wasn't. It's from the IndiePop band, Cut Copy, and The song is called "Black Rainbows". This one again, has that perfect 80's New Wave vibe, that I helplessly, fall victim to every time. The style? Think Saint Motel's " My Type" and every Thompson Twins song wrapped into one. I sense a future #1 on my chart.
