Wow, my last place song was actually the first one out instead of making it in the upper half of the rankdown like in the 2015 country one No big losses for me yet. I only like about half of her songs anyway so even my #27 being gone isn't sad for me

Surprised "Boys" is out already. I felt like it's always been pretty popular, even though I've never been fond of it.
"Someday I Will Slay" is a gorgeous song tho. Shame on y'all. :'(

He's known for producing the classic hits “Call Me” (Blondie), “Take My Breath Away”, “Flashdance... What A Feeling”, and a ton of Donna Summer songs. One of which being “I Feel Love”; the song that basically invented the dance music genre. “Tom's Diner” dates back to 1982. The original version was sung by Suzanne Vega. The song was later remixed by DNA in the early 90's; with that version becoming a huge hit across Europe, and even reached #5 in the US. The song is known for its memorable “da-da-duh-da” melody. Britney's cover didn't do anything chart-wise, but I don't think either party really expected it to. It's just a bonus thrown out there for the fans. {Still in the running}...Baby One More Time Sometimes (You Drive Me) Crazy [Stop! Boys is a good song for sure, surprised it wasn't at least a moderate hit The music video for it though is 10/10 It was the ~5th single in most places (it's confusing keeping track of which songs were released where this era). Plus US radio was really resistant to playing Britney during this time period. That's a topic I'll be brushing on in later entries, though.

The film Crossroads debuted in February 2002. It was loathed by critics, but performed decently in the box office. It did a lot better than Mariah's acting debut a few months prior, but that's not saying much. The accompanying coming-of-age ballad is an honest one, analyzing and defining where she is in life right now. The song didn't do much to turn Britney's fortunes around in the US (this era wasn't doing too hot there). The backlash was real. Radio had moved onto the anti-Britney's, P!nk and Avril (that's the image those two had at the time). Although her US peaks were becoming irrelevant at this point. I'd say this song is pretty well-known despite not even charting on the Hot 100. Worldwide, she was still smashing and MTV still played the hell out of her videos. “I'm Not A Girl” is also Britney's last time working with Max Martin until 2008, and Max's last real notable hit until “Since U Been Gone”. {Still in the running}...Baby One More Time Sometimes (You Drive Me) Crazy [Stop! It was produced by Bloodshy & Avant, who were responsible for “Toxic” (one of her most iconic hits) a few months prior. This does sound like something you'd find in the European charts circa 2005. No surprise it did pretty well there, and that the US didn't really care about it. I think this is one of Britney's most underrated songs. She has fun with it and it captures her feelings of being sick of being famous at the time. I remember someone on MuchMusic joking that the phrase "why don't you do somethin'" was directed at K-Fed lol. {Still in the running}...Baby One More Time Sometimes (You Drive Me) Crazy [Stop! Justice for "Anticipating". </3 I thought that it was going to do better, although I wasn't expecting a lot to be honest. That said, #41 is really low. Shame on you. :( FTBOMBH, a song about one's first heartbreak, was the fourth single off of Britney's debut album in the US and Oceania. Europe was given "Born To Make You Happy" instead. It's a pretty standard teen pop ballad. It was a moderate hit, and probably her best performing 4th/5th single in the US. The main reason why it did really well in the US was because it had a single physical release, like "Stronger", making both of them to peak inside the Top 20 in Hot 100. I think Jive didn't make most of her early singles to have a physical release to increase the sales of her albums.

To lead off the project was a cover of Bobby Brown's “My Prerogative”. Unlike her previous covers, I think this one suits her. It's one of her many songs that can be interpreted as being about her fame. She's waving a middle finger to the tabloids that won't stop discussing her personal life, as if it's any of their business. This was her first release since getting engaged to Kevin Federline, so there's the context. Unfortunately that also means this marked the beginning of things going downhill for her. And this missed the top 20 on pop, so her 2004 comeback on that format was short-lived. {Still in the running}...Baby One More Time Sometimes (You Drive Me) Crazy [Stop!
