I feel like this album could have come out at any time in the past half year and it wouldn't have made much of a difference.

Flux came and went... ready for something else. "Sixteen" happened but no one seems to care? It's mediocre at best

As silly as it sounds, I’d probably care more if there was an actual album attached to these songs. Since Close To Me, Ellie has released three songs and I don’t know whether they’re singles, album tracks, random one-offs, songs from soundtracks, or whatever. I’d be more invested if they were part of something larger.
Edit: I’m a liar. Do You Remember is a jam and is probably my favourite of the songs she’s released the past few years.

“Sixteen” is picking up steam on the UK charts, but it has received no US promo save for TTH placement (it’s drifting around in the Spotify 200 after peaking at 59). Wondering what her game plan is, it’s pretty unclear

Didn't even know that "Sixteen" existed. You’re not missing out on much. Hope she has more inspiring tracks on the album. I thought this was going to be a return to Halcyon form.

She was interviewed by Stella Magazine, where she discusses about her upcoming wedding with Caspar Jopling, as well as her break in music back in 2017. She also mentioned that there's not an album yet and she's dropping a series of songs, including "Woman I Am" and "Start". From Telegraph:

I'm assuming here obviously, but it seems likely that the Halcyon-esque album it sounded like she had in the can last Fall got scrapped by her label in favor of more commercial fare. *sigh*

I enjoy Close To You and Hate Me well enough, but they're both such generic songs that they could have been from any no-name singer and I'd enjoy them just the same. Ellie had something distinctive that continues to get more and more erased. Starry Eyed came on my shuffle the other day and I didn't realize how much I missed that sound from Ellie. Obviously it probably wouldn't do well now, nor would Halcyon, but I think there's still something that could fuse that sound with something more present-day without completely nixing her style. I used to really want a new album from Ellie but now I don't even think I care anymore.

I've always been enjoying her singles over her albums. "Still Falling for You", "Close to Me", "Sixteen" and "Hate Me" are all bops to me. I'm not sure if I crave for another album from her that much.

Can Ellie Goulding realise she has something really special and not put out generic garbage.
Is that too difficult?

She’s brought in enough success that her label wants to use it but not enough that she has the freedom to do what she wants. It’s so unfortunate because she really does have something special in her voice and style.

I'm with y'all. I haven't been interested in these singles at all really. I loved Halcyon Days / Devotion, but at this point, I'm not that hopeful or interested.

I genuinely want to know why Ellie has wasted both her and our time releasing music in the last year. Unless I missed something, she hasn't actively promoted anything since three Close To Me performances in 2018. I know she got engaged in August 2018, congrats on the marriage and all that, but if she was going to let that be such a distraction she could have kept all of these releases and come back when the honeymoon was over and she cared enough to focus. I don't even dislike them (I strongly like Flux and Hate Me and find Sixteen rather cute, in fact), but these songs feel uneventful because Ellie herself has made them feel uneventful.

She revealed to iHeartRadio's Ask Anything Chat that her album won't have any collaborations, so "Close To Me" and "Hate Me" aren't going to be included there. Apparently, "Sixteen" is also scrapped, but "Flux" isn't. Also, she will release a new solo song soon.

Yeah nothing has really felt unique about the series of tracks she's been releasing for a while Flux came close lyrically but that's about it
Progressively she does feel like she's losing her unique drive to commercial sounds Which sucks cause like I absolutely her first two albums were really good Delirium was a bit half and half for me, some of it felt manufactured for commercial appeal and some of it still felt familiar

Honestly her material post Delirium isn't anywhere close to as good as the songs from her first three albums. I feel as though Halcyon is her magnum opus and her followups (HALCYON DAYS rerelease and DELIRIUM) while they were still strong were a bit more mainstream and less of her sound that she developed near the beginning of her career. I am cautiously hopeful that the album turns out well through her last few singles have me feeling doubtful.

Ellie's latest release is called "River", which is a cover of Joni Mitchell's 1971 song of the same title. The track, which was released exclusively on Amazon three weeks ago, has reached at #14 in the UK this week. It has become her highest chart peaking song in over three years beating "Close To Me", which peaked at #17 there.
