I died when the pastor said " when I saw Ariana Grande on the program I thought it was something new at taco bell"
Regarding her performance it was cute but she doesn't have the range or vocals or soul for a Aretha Franklin song and it showed. Not to mention she was dressed for the MTV awards and not a funeral. But you get what you get nowadays when you expect respect from this generation artists.
Now faith hill the legend I think your voice here needed it's own funeral to celebrate what you once had? Wtf happened. She came across as the drunk lady trying to emote.
Jennifer Hudson did what she always do.
I was moved by fantasia and Yolanda is always a pro.

f**k I was boarding my flight and missed Faith Hill. How’d she do? Q: How'd she do? A: "Great gown, beautiful gown."

For the most part, there was waay too much screaming and running and stuff from most of the performers at Ms. Franklin's interminable homegoing service. I am very familiar with the black church and this was a bit much still, it was very showy and loud in many parts. I know people were dragging Ariana's dress, it was a bit short for a church/funeral but she gave one of the best (and most sensible) vocal performances. A lot of them were pushing the envelope, literally screaming and their voices were cracking, just a mess.

This funeral was the embodiment of Aretha and everything she deserved.

As much as I love Aretha, I have to admit that her Christmas album is pretty unlistenable to me. But that 1960s LP collection is a must!!

Her Christmas album from 2008 sucks balls. It's a shame she released a full on holiday record so late into her career when her voice was tattered. As you say, it's basically unlistenable. She has zero belting register, and nevermind that, she can hardly sing in a plain mid-range; she sings all the tracks doing endless runs that, besides butchering the songs' melodies, it gives you a headache. She put out an EP I think in the 60s with "Joy To The World," "O Christmas Tree" and "Winter Wonderland" on it, which is far far better.

They can keep that Christmas album. I’m gonna need them to rerelease her last several albums she recorded for Atlantic in the late 70s. It’s pretty ridiculous that you can’t purchase her #1 R&B version of “Break It To Me Gently”. I know it wasn’t a successful period for her, but still...all of her other albums are readily available.

Fantasia not being considered is an abomination.

Jennifer Hudson as usual. Pff!
Fantasia will be heartbroken when she finds out she was left out once again.

Meh to all those Idol ladies. I would rather see her contemporaries like Patti, Chaka and Gladys.

I’m disturbed by the inclusion of SZA and Halle and Chloe. Even Janelle really has no business being there. Who would’ve thought that the BET Black Girls Rock tribute would’ve been the best lineup out of the bunch. Some of those ladies (Jazmine, Tasia, etc) should’ve been asked instead. Guess Jennifer isn’t tired of being a tribute act.

I legit LOL’d at SZA. I like her but no. So many notable exclusions this list but no one would watch if they had a bunch of non-mainstream artists perform, right? 🙄

Alicia Keys haven't been "mainstream" in a very long time (God, this is going to be like nails on a chalkboard). Also, Celine, JHud,Alessia Cara (I don't even know who this is) and Patti. The only mainstream/current artists performing are H.E.R Kelly Clarkson and SZA. They could have easily asked some real R&B artists/singers to pay tribute to the Queen. They always messing this up smh.

There’s also zero independent artists on this list.

Alicia Keys (as much as I love her) needs to stay away from this tribute. I can already see the dragging on social media for her (what will be rough vocal) performance of an Aretha song.

JHUD was fantastic in her performance at the tribute the other night, especially on "Respect" (although she had a little trouble with those high notes on "Ain't No Way"). Perfect choice to play her.
