Massive single in 1993. His only No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, it earned him a Grammy for Best Rock Vocal Performance, Solo.

I wasn't a fan of this initially but I got into the Eurodance cover by Jam Tronik and I like it now. There were several different versions of this song because the album version was so long. There was a shorter edit that was about half the length of the original and then a really short radio edit, and then of course the video edit. Each version had a different assortment of lyrics.

I love this one! I love Steinman's work in general, and Meat Loaf's bombast really suits Steinman's production style. The lyric concept is pretty cool, too. This was a great comeback single. I also love "It Just Won't Quit" from the album.

I was astonished and delighted the first time I heard this back in 1993. So classic and epic, with astounding vocals, baroque production and unorthodox structure. Loved it! Was a huge hit in my personal chart, becoming my yearend #1. I bought the album and felt it was a pretty solid effort.

I worked in music retail when this song/album were out. Couldn't keep either in stock. It was a left-field comeback, and I loved that they both topped the charts, even if I didn't love the song or the album. It just stood out and felt nostalgic or something - brought generations together in a way.
Sadly he sounds terrible these days - poor guy. He really shouldn't even be singing anymore, imo. It's that bad. Legend tho.

One of the most dreadful songs I have ever had the displeasure of hearing. I detest this with such a fiery passion.

I really enjoy this song. I have a huge love for pretty much all things Jim Steinman - except his Air Supply song
Do we know what the "that" is in the song?

Do we know what the "that" is in the song? It's right in the lyrics of the song, different ones throughout the song right before saying he won't do that; never forget the way he feels right now, won't forgive himself if they don't go all the way, won't stop dreaming of her every night, etc.

Not a fan. It borders on parody. This was such a left-field hit and comeback. It was his first Top 40 hit in 15 years (he was a one-hit wonder at Pop radio until this) and smashed.

This over the top 90s ballad is a guilty pleasure of mine. the adult contemporary/adult top 40 stations in my market (Lite FM 93.9, 100.3, and 101.9 the Mix) played this one when it came out. I was never a big fan of power ballads but I liked this one for some strange reason.

Can't say that I'm a huge fan of this. Not one of the best from the 90s. I remember seeing the video on Vh-1.

27 years ago today, "I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)" by Meat Loaf scored a fifth and final week at No.1 on the Hot 100 chart. I absolutely love this record. It has that Wagnerian element that screams Jim Steinman, those background vocals. The female vocalist hits the right balance on the duet coda. The structure of the song is quite interesting. Massive 7-week No.1 in the U.K. - I got the video edit on my cd single.
