I actually don't find "A Real Fine Place To Start" to be one of Sara's strongest songs. I do really like it though, I promise lol.

I just said that with indulge, because I feel like he hates me or looks down at me. Something like that Nobody looks down on you. Some posters come off harsher than others but nobody here hates you. Please realize this. We all love you Ray. :) Yeah we just are joking Ray :) I don't have sex (for religious/personal reasons, not because I don't want to though ), I very rarely drink, and I have more important things to worry about in my life currently instead of finding a girlfriend. So you and I aren't too dissimilar ;)

I like "Real Fine Place", but to me it's not one of Sara's strongest efforts. I'd much prefer something like "Cheatin", "Coalmine" or even "Missing Missouri." I also prefer Radney Foster's original version.

And Sara wins by 69 points. This wasn't even close in the end lol. But congrats to both songs! Incredible top 5 in my opinion :)

Oh I can feel the hate. Didn't really dig it, it was the first time I'd heard it...so I just threw it down toward the bottom.
I've learned to forgive y'all for your hate of my artists. I can only hope y'all find that for me hehe.

bboat11 I see you liking my posts. Well, let me tell you something mister, your low rating of "Boondocks" has been noted and not appreciated

Only drink once in a while too. I'm actually quite a boring person, trust me!

I like both of the top 2 so I'm overly upset, but I do think "Best I Ever Had" is a beautiful song. "A Real Fine Place To Start" is definitely Sara's best as well.

Gary Allan really is one of my favorites but I have never cared for his cover of Best I Ever Had. I prefer the original a lot more.
Sara Evans is not in my top 10 female vocalist at all tbh but I do like her. Ultimately though I am happy to see this one, as it is one of my favorites from her

The back story of the "Best I Ever Had" is the reason why I love it. The song is so dark and bleak, which makes it all the better cause that is where Gary Allan shines best in my opinion.
"Is it what you wanted" on its own sounds like something in a typical breakup song. But when you factor in Gary Allans wife's suicide and that one line becomes a whole lot more dark and depressing yet strangely enough beautiful in a way I can't quite describe.
Although it got second place I am so happy it did this well. An amazing tune and an absolute perfect song.

Definitely not a song I wanted to win, but hey at least I like it so there's that. These rankdowns are always fun. Even if I'm all like, "I hate how it's playing out! Booo!" it's all a part of the fun for me

Great job zaclord π Thanks for taking this on. I was surprised by some of the results, but that's a lot of the fun.

I'm gonna open voting for the 1997 Country Year-End soon but have had trouble finding a top 100. Have found a top 75 and might just include 25 songs that I remember hearing that year, that is unless someone knows where to find a list of the top 100 from that year

The reason I love "Best I Ever Had" so much (and it's probably my favorite Gary song), is because of his wife passing away of suicide. That first line, "So you sailed away, into a gray sky morning" is bone-chilling. It was an appropriate song and delivery for what hell he went through the months prior. The emotion could be felt through the speakers.

Also zaclord π you were a wonderful host and thanks for doing this! Also thanks for finishing up tonight because I needed the distraction. With the play I am in being over, I was a sad and depressed little panda tonight lol. Needed this :)

We also don't have to do 100 - 75 is fine as well! Just don't do something like 83

I think why I never loved his version (I like it though) is that I prefer Vertical Horizon's version, and it was sooo overplayed. So, I was already tired of the song when Gary released it a couple years later.

I question how many people in this thread actually know Vertical Horizon's original, so here it is if anyone is curious

I do plan on participating in the Carrie Underwood rankdown, even though my list will be sent in at the last minute as always. Also LBTrocks I can relate to having these rankdowns be a fun way to get through life's depressing moments, lol.

I don't know whether to be happy or sad that you're not participating since half the time our taste is so similar and the other half of the time its opposite Jk - I wish you were but understand the busyness. I really shouldn't be doing this right now as work is crazy busy and I should have been finishing my portfolio for my masters instead of doing this tonight...

I question how many people in this thread actually know Vertical Horizon's original, so here it is if anyone is curious I didn't know about it until after I heard Gary's version, but I do like Vertical Horizon ("Everything You Want" is a JAM) and their version is good too, but like some have said, Gary just sells this one emotionally. It's my favorite single from him easily.
