Here are my new entries this week with video links and some information to those new entries! My current #1: The 1975 - If You're Too Shy (Let Me Know): (Highest New Entry)In this song, Matty Healy sings about his infatuation with a woman he only knows through a screen. The girl is sensually adventurous and wants to get intimate with him, but at first the singer misses the signals because he's too caught up worrying what she thinks of him.
10. Clueso - Tanzen:This is the new single by the german pop singer Clueso. In the song "Tanzen" he sings about an open relationship that he once had. As it was then, he couldn't go on. It's great to dance to the great beats of the single. Clueso recorded his song in the pantry so as not to bother the neighbors.
11. Tom Grennan - Oh Please:Produced by Eg White (Amy Winehouse, Adele) and Zach Witness (Erykah Badhu, Andre 3000), the Bedford singer’s latest effort follows his first single of 2020, ‘This Is The Place’. Discussing the track’s inspiration, Grennan said: “I was listening to a lot of Curtis Mayfield, Nas, Kendrick, and of course Amy Winehouse, and I wanted to channel this through the song.
12. Viki Gabor - Getaway:This is the third single from the young polish 12 year old singer Viki Gabor, after the #1 hit "Superhero" and top 40 hit "Ramie W Ramie". The song is energetic, exudes summer vibes and helps to escape the dark everyday life.
20. Vincent Bueno - Alive:This was Austria's representative for the Eurovision Song Contest this year. Vincent’s funky, upbeat song “Alive” is a feel-good number that’s all about empowerment. It suggests that Vincent, like all of you, has a fire inside that can burn through the darkest of times. Sometimes we just need someone else to flip the switch. As he sings: “I’m like a little match box, all I need is a little spark to light this whole world up, prepare for fire shots, only you can make me feel alive again.” As the world continues to come together to slow the spread of the global pandemic, his words seem more apt than ever.
21. The Rolling Stones - Living In A Ghost Town:This is The Rolling Stones's big comeback single since 2012. Referencing the coronavirus crisis over sleazy dub-influenced backing, this is a light, trim and relevant sound for the Stones.
23. Youngr - Childish Behaviour:Youngr is a solo outlet for Dario Darnell, a songwriter, producer, instrumentalist, and vocalist from Britain who makes eclectic, slightly left-of-center pop. He once landed an out of nowhere smash hit with "Out Of My System", which reached #1. This is his second single out of his new album "Memories" (with the title track being the first single from it). It's a funky pop song, until the rock instrumental after the chorus.
24. Ulrikke Brandstorp - Attention:This was Norway's representative for the Eurovision Song Contest this year. With “Attention” Ulrikke doesn’t just sing. She engages the listener in an intimate conversation. At times she’s singing to herself and asking difficult questions about her own behaviour. At other moments she seems to be in dialogue with the man at the centre of her mental storm.
28. BENEE - Supalonely (feat. Gus Dapperton):Benee created the song after going through a breakup. The singer explained to I.D. she wanted "to play around with the theme of being sad about a guy because that was how I was feeling."
29. Roxen - Alcohol You:This was Romania's representative for the Eurovision Song Contest this year. Roxen may be young, but “Alcohol You” tackles a very mature subject matter: the stress and strain that come with a difficult breakup. Her Prince Charming is no longer in the picture - or if he is, he’s morphed into a baddie. But rather than walking away she’s left in mental distress, calling him when she’s had a few too many. Although the relationship is clearly dysfunctional - it’s the only thing keeping her stable. Thankfully she starts to sober up during the bridge. The release of those power notes read as an awakening where she finally realises it’s time to let go.
30. BEN & TAN - YES:This was Denmark's representative for the Eurovision Song Contest this year. Ben & Tan both live in Denmark and met each other during X Factor Denmark in 2019 as co-competitors. During the season, they often found themselves jamming to Ed Sheeran songs backstage; it was meant to be that they later would join forces as a charismatic duo. YES is a hopeful song encouraging everyone to say yes to life and love even in hard times.
35. Go_A - Solovey:This was Ukraine's representative for the Eurovision Song Contest this year. Solovey (translated in English to: Nightingale), combines electronic music, Ukrainian folk instruments and ethnic vocals. The song is based on Kateryna's personal story about a strong girl who falls in love and realizes that she is no longer taken seriously. Her power helps her turn the tables and handle the situation with dignity. It is the first time in my chart that a song is sung entirely in the Ukrainian language.
38. Tom Leeb - Mon alliée (The Best In Me):The French representative for the canceled Eurovision Song Contest 2020 Tom Leeb has decided to release the French version of his entry “The Best In Me”. The French Version called “Mon Alliée” (My ally) regrading to known sources is the version the Tom was about to perform on Rotterdam’s stage. thew new revamped sounds like an acoustic feel that sounded so authentic in some part as if it was recorded live. The biggest change in the version is the fact that the lyrics are now bilingual in French and English which transforms the song into a classic Chanson and a good one that you will probably want to hear on the radio.
41. VIZE & Tom Gregory - Never Let Me Down:Chartbreakers VIZE and radio superstar Tom Gregory have teamed up to create the ultimate summer hit – Never Let Me Down. The song is an expression of those strong feelings you have for someone you don’t want to lose, when you realize you couldn’t face losing them, no matter what. Tom Gregory’s catchy vocals perfectly complement the summertime, slightly uptempo VIZE beat.
43. Hurricane - Hasta La Vista:This was Serbia's representative for the Eurovision Song Contest this year. The song doesn’t just bring life to the party: It comes with a message of empowerment. Hurricane’s “Hasta la vista” tells the tale of a troublesome man who thinks he is too good for the singers. But individually they remember to stay confident and true to themselves in the face of this man’s indifference.
45. Jeangu Macrooy - Grow:This was the Netherlands's representative for the Eurovision Song Contest this year. In the autobiographical song Grow, Jeangu Macrooy opens his heart and mind to the world around him. His entry is his personal story about getting older and the quest to find himself. Jeangu believes there is no instruction manual for life. By accepting that life consists of highs and lows, he believes that you make progress and get closer to who you are.
47. Luis Fonsi - Sway:This was a song written by Pipobeats and produced by OneRepublic frontman Ryan Tedder for the TV show Songland.
48. Aksel Kankaanranta - Looking Back:This is Finland's representative for the Eurovision Song Contest this year. “Looking Back” is a song about living in the moment rather than remaining anchored in the past. Its lyrics encourage us to avoid waiting for the future to bring us something better. If we do, we risk forgetting what we are living for in the present. It tells of that feeling of inadequacy that every human being experiences at some point in their lives. We ask ourselves what is the value of what we have lived through and whether our experiences have made us really happy.
49. Benny Cristo - Kemama:This is the Czech Republic's representative for the Eurovision Song Contest this year. Kemama includes some elements from Africa. Benny is a Czech with Angolan roots so this is not a surprise. His chosen Eurovision song fits the afro-pop musical genre and it underwent a revamp in Kenya, The final version followed after a few unfinished mixes were published.
50. Montaigne - Don't Break Me:This is Australia's representative for the Eurovision Song Contest this year. The challenging and inspiring lyrics of Don't Break Me are reminiscent of the philosopher who inspired her moniker. With melodies to get lost in and the most energetic of live performances, Montaigne represents the next generation of artists who march to the beat of their own drum.
53. Lesley Roy - Story Of My Life:This is Ireland's representative for the Eurovision Song Contest this year. It’s a strong uptempo lively song which gives you energy both by its lyrics and music.
57. Vasil - You:This is North Macedonia's representative for the Eurovision Song Contest this year. YOU is about the human connection we have to music and the art of letting go through dance… It’s like a complete takeover of your senses.
58. Daithí - An Irish Goodbye:"An Irish Goodbye", the new single from composer, violinist, and producer Daithí is being described as the 'first Irish single written and recorded in self isolation'. The track itself is a delight, mixing wistful Celtic airs over mellow, yet insistent, beats.
62. Uku Suviste - What Love Is:This is Estonia's representative for the Eurovision Song Contest this year. This song is a dramatic ode to feelings that come with falling in love and was inspired by musical theatre. The lyrics speak about someone who did not know love before. This person thought he would be alone for the rest of his life. As the song progresses, he literally finds out what love is, as the title suggests.
63. Sandro - Running:This is Cyprus's representative for the Eurovision Song Contest this year. The song tells a dark story that showcases the struggle against adversities and the storms that we have to weather in life. Having experienced depression himself, Sandro’s performance underlines the tunnel of darkness that we must keep on running through in times of difficulty, but also of the strength needed to stand tall through it.
69. Stefania - Supergirl:This is Greece's representative for the Eurovision Song Contest this year. “Superg!rl” narrates Stefania’s own story since, as a young woman, she has had to find the power to combine her obligations as a student with her dream of singing.
74. Akcent - Arabian Dance (feat. Chante):This song combines dance production with arabic instrumentation, also perfect for belly dancing. This song is special for me, considering I personally have two close friends from Finland, who are also belly dancers.
76. DaBaby - Rockstar (feat. Roddy Ricch):Here, DaBaby and Roddy Ricch draw a parallel between their hip-hop gangster lifestyles and those of rock stars.
78. David Puentez - Superstar (feat. Albert Neve):The Spanish DJ and producer Albert Neve has teamed up with his German colleague David Puentez to present the track "Superstar" under the popular record label Hexagon. The 57-year-old DJ Neve is one of the largest Spanish DJ greats in the world and, despite his age, does not tire of presenting one hit after the other. The new track "Superstar" is a remix of the hit of the same name by singer Jamelia from 2003. Albert Neve and David Puentez just gave the song a new beat.
80. Giant Rooks - Watershed:German Art-Pop band, Giant Rooks follow up last year’s stunning ‘Wild Stare’ EP with their new single “Watershed”, released ahead of their upcoming UK Shows in May. The melancholy banger begins with a reverb laced piano hook before launching in a beautiful slice of angular indie disco. Giant Rooks do not hide the fact that the song borrows from house and electronic music in its urgency and hedonistic sound, they simply weave these elements into a track that is the perfect soundtrack to late nights in dave bars, either in London or Berlin.
90. Hooverphonic - Release Me:This is Belgium's representative for the Eurovision Song Contest this year. It is a universal song about saying goodbye, elegiac acceptance and coming to terms with finality. The result is a sweeping, majestic ballad that only Hooverphonic seems to be able to craft time and time again. They're looking for stars and – rest assured – they will find them.
95. Blas Cantó - Universo:This is Spain's representative for the Eurovision Song Contest this year. Universo is a somewhat new sound for Blas Cantó, but the song stays true to the pop essence for which he is known in Spain.
97. Tornike Kipiani - Take Me As I Am:This is Georgia's representative for the Eurovision Song Contest this year. “Take Me As I Am” is a mix of classic rock, electro and dubstep. There are also some orchestral flourishes for good measure. The track examines the pressures that Tornike feels to model himself on others. Someone in his life wants him to “talk like an Englishman”, “dress like an Italian”, “dance like a Spanish guy”, “smell like a French homme” and “play like a German”. But it’s not only about a love story between two people who can’t connect. That story ends sadly because one can’t accept the other as he or she is. However, “Take Me As I Am” also examines the relationship between countries. Tornike is effectively asking why Georgia (and other nations) needs to constantly focus on other countries. Why must its people pretend to be the same as other nations that simply can’t accept them as they really are?
99. Samanta Tina - Still Breathing:This is Latvia's representative for the Eurovision Song Contest this year. Samanta has said publicly that her song is an ode to women who are held to unrealistically high standards. They’re meant to be beautiful at all times, while also being perfect mothers and devoted wives — all the while working or chasing their dreams. It’s about the relentlessness of having to do it all and the fight to say, “I’m still breathing” despite the endless struggle.
