I can't believe "No Thinking Thing" made the top 10. I really like the song but I didn't think it stood a chance. I'm really happy "Everywhere" and "Just To See You Smile" both made the top 10 because they're two of my all time favorite songs. I'm also shocked, but thrilled! I'm also really glad "Everywhere" made the top 10, as I think it's one of Tim's bests.

Welp, there went half of my top 10 predictions. REBA DIDN'T GET A SINGLE SONG IN???!! :O I thought Faith was a bit of a dark horse candidate for the top 10, but tbh I thought Lee Ann Womack's "The Fool" was even more of one, so I am a little shocked that Lee Ann was the one to make the top 10.
Also, Trace Adkins got the top 10??!!!!!? I love Trace, but "Thinkin' Thing" is such a middle-of-the-road song in terms of this year! I love pretty much everything else in the top 10 though, so I am pretty happy with the results, except Reba definitely should have had Trace's spot.

For me, "(This Ain't) No Thinkin' Thing" has always been one of Trace's standouts. It would be my favorite song of his if my obsession with "Songs About Me" wasn't so real.

Love everything in this Top 10 except the Trace Adkins song, so hopefully he'll be #10, but yeah... solid Top 10 for the most part!

Pulling for George to hit the top of the list. But "Is That A Tear" leaving early has me all kinda of sour.

Well some big surprises there! I'm sad I haven't been able to post more in the thread but I am following along!
I'm not surprised Reba missed the top once the hint that somebody shocking would miss I had her in mind.

If anyone is interested in doing a rank down for any other years of country music, here is a link with ACC countdown with Bob Kingsley top 100 country songs for each year 1990-1999. These should be the official Billboard year end as well because the show used the Billboard chart until sometime in the 2000's decade I believe. www.thomasreil.de/english/country/z_acctitel.htm

The one for 1997 is only a top 75, but when you compare it to this list, it is WAY different! So I'm not sure how the ACC countdown was calculated, but the 1997 list here is completely different from Billboard's 1997. There are huge glaring differences, like the inclusion of "Strawberry Wine", "The Fear Of Being Alone", and "I Can Still Make Cheyenne". So I'm not sure why the ACC countdown is so different from the Billboard list if they used the Billboard chart, but the lists at this link are nowhere close to similar. However, since the Billboard site only posts a top 60 or top 75 of most years, this link will still be an excellent resource for building the rankdowns up to 100 songs! :)

I'll be using this for my next country year end rankdown for sure :)

I'm sure you already know this, but Billboard's website has the year-end charts posted for pretty much any year. :) Yeah, I'd still use the Billboard list, but it will be SUPER helpful in finding those last 25 songs instead of going through roughly 40 weeks of charts to find those songs that missed the list (like I did with the 2005 rankdown). I'll be using this for my next country year end rankdown for sure :) I posted this for that exact reason. To make it easier for someone who wants to do a rankdown. Plus there were some great songs from 1997 that were missed. David Kersh's "Goodnight Sweetheart" and "Day In, Day Out", Mindy McCready's "Maybe He'll Notice Her Now", Ricochet's "He Left A Lot To Be Desired" and "Love Is Stronger Than Pride" just to name a few. This is a great list though........the only song that was on the list unless I'm mistaken that didn't even make the top 40 was LeAnn Rimes version of "How Do I Live" which peaked at #43 and wasn't on the ACC year end chart. I think it was a bigger pop hit than a country hit if I remember correctly....

I think it was a bigger pop hit than a country hit if I remember correctly.... there were quite a few songs I could have included in this but since I had the list of the top 75 from Billboard's website I went with that because I didn't think some of the songs that were listed on other sites that had Top 100 lists were actually hits in 1997. Strawberry Wine is one of the biggest as We Danced Anyway was at radio prior to the end of 1996, which was the followup to Strawberry Wine. That is just one case. That left 25 spots and honestly I picked 25 songs that I remembered from 1997 more so than went with the top hits. It is why I named this 1997 Country and not 1997 Year-End. There are many songs I included that would not have been included otherwise, like Down Came A Blackbird, How Do I Live (LeAnn Rimes version), Cry On The Shoulder Of The Road, Never Again Again just to name a couple. Those songs I remember vividly from 1997 more so than some of the other songs you mentioned. Granted we could probably do a second list of like 50 songs from 1997 because there were so many great songs. I also already have the songs set for 1998 and 1999 but will reference that site just to make sure I'm not missing any big songs. Anyways, Top 10 is beginning soon

FOLLOWERS: bigfan101 Andy This song is the reason I'm a country music fan. In the summer of 1997 I did not care for Country music at all. There were songs I liked because I had family that listened but I didn't. One of the songs I liked was Tim McGraw's Don't Take The Girl and I heard that song on the radio one day after changing the channel and left the station on. Not sure why I didn't change the channel right as the song ended because that is what I usually did but I kept it on and this song came on and I absolutely loved this song and wanted to hear it again so I listened to more country in order to hear this one more. I still love this song, it is easily my favorite Lee Ann Womack single ever. HINTS FOR #84 people lose a top 10, including the highest rank of #3 4 others lose a top 20 2 lose a bottom 20, including a #97 rank This song is from what many would say is this artists biggest album

FOLLOWERS: bigfan101 Andy The lead single to the Come On Over album. I actually really liked this song a lot back in 1997 and actually like it a lot more than a majority of the other singles from the same album. HINTS FOR #7Someone loses their #1 next 4 other people lose a top 10 1 person loses a bottom 20 After the first few ranks came in this next song was actually ranked #2 or #3 for most. The last few ranks brought this one down a lot, with one of the last actually bringing this back up a bit

Lol with so many of these recent losses I have found myself thinking, "OMG I only ranked that song at ___?" Like Shania. I absolutely LOVE this song, and I only ranked it at 16?! And "The Fool", I only ranked it at #21??!! Shows how hard my top 10 was to get into. Much of my top 30 feels like it belongs in my top 10. I feel like I've been losing top 10 songs left and right lately, and really I haven't lost a single one since we started the top 10 HINTS FOR #7Someone loses their #1 next 4 other people lose a top 10 1 person loses a bottom 20 After the first few ranks came in this next song was actually ranked #2 or #3 for most. The last few ranks brought this one down a lot, with one of the last actually bringing this back up a bit Oh God, I fear this one might be Martina.... That sounds like similar stats to what I am expecting for her....
