The contrast between this thread last night and then me reading the Miranda Lambert rankdown thread just now, lol: We don't NEED anything except to have your wonderful personality and music taste joining us in this rankdown. Seriously though, it can be nice to have somebody participate who is not super familiar with everything. Watching somebody discover new music and judge it based on just a listen or two is part of what adds variety to these things! Of course if you don't have time to listen to them that's valid, but don't feel like you are unwelcome just because you are unfamiliar Miranda has some similarities to Maren, but Miranda is much, much less poppy. Excellent songwriting though and Miranda excels in her delivery as well. I hope you like her This difference is more or less why I was 'triggered' if anyone was curious. The animosity was just off-putting. I think being welcoming to the idea of people listening to and discovering new music should be encouraged by these games, imo. Oh honey, you can't hold the rock posters to the same standard that you hold me and zaclord 🌈... They are a tender people, raised in a culture where both the fans AND the artists are afflicted with severe emotional vulnerability. The keystone species are especially prone to microagressions and doltishness when faced with disagreement from outsiders, and are likely to react in an over-the-top fashion when they feel that their territory has been threatened. You should sit back and allow them to attack you for ranking things wrong. It's what you deserve for expressing your opinions, you son of a bitch!

Highest standard deviations:
1) Habits (Stay High) 2) Riptide 3) West Coast 4) Centuries 5) Demons 6) Black Out Days 7) Take Me to Church 8) Tongues 9) The Walker 10) Rude 11) Beware the Dog 12) Out of the Black 13) Stolen Dance 14) My Sweet Summer 15) Reverse 16) Tennis Court 17) Back to the Shack 18) Fever 19) Out of My League 20) I Sat by the Ocean
Lowest standard deviations:
1) Take It as It Comes 2) Do or Die 3) Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High? 4) Bad Blood 5) Take It or Leave It 6) Temple 7) Waves 8) The Miracle (of Joey Ramone) 9) Come a Little Closer 10) Weekend 11) One Minute More 12) Sirens 13) Hell and Back 14) Gold 15) Lanterns 16) Shark Attack 17) Afraid 18) Mind over Matter 19) Left Hand Free 20) Until It's Gone
Biggest differences between year-end chart and pulse rankdown:
1) Words as Weapons 2) Out of the Black 3) Left Hand Free 4) My Sweet Summer 5) The Epilogue 6) Shot at the Night 7) Heavy Bells 8) The Walker 9) Weekend (tie) 9) A Sky Full of Stars (tie) 11) Flaws 12) Take It as It Comes 12) Blue Moon 14) Car Radio 15) Best Day of My Life (tie) 15) Riptide (tie) 15) I Sat by the Ocean (tie) 18) Centuries 19) Guilty all the Same (tie) 19) Take Out the Gunman (tie)
Spreadsheet has also been updated. Also forgot to update "Dangerous"' SD which is now 27.671.
With regards to "Cardiac Arrest", I thought the pop posters would bring it down like what happened to "Dangerous" in the 2015 alternative rankdown that denied it of a top 10 placing there, but I'm glad that wasn't the case for both songs in this rankdown.

Lots of catching up to do... between the purging of #1-30 and all the rock vs. pop drama, it got a little overwhelming. IMO anyone who can be bothered to listen to every song on here is worthy of participating. Can't we all just get along? {Thoughts on #30-2}30. Kings of Leon - Temple (My ranking: #16) This is my favorite KOL song of the era, and one of my favorites from them overall. Happy with its ranking here.
29. Broken Bells - Holding on for Life (My ranking: #22) I don't love this quite as much as when it first came out, but it landed about where it belongs.
28. The Black Keys - Fever (My ranking: #69) Don't care much for this one; the keyboards make it stand out a bit, but overall it's a bit on the annoying side. Overrated, though I'm glad it at least outranked "Gotta Get Away".
27. Lorde - Tennis Court (My ranking: #81) I like some of Lorde's songs but I don't get the fuss over this one. I actually prefer "Glory and Gore", though not by much.
26. Meg Myers - Desire (My ranking: #64) This song has some cool elements, but overall it's a little over-the-top for my tastes. I liked her other two singles more.
25. Kings of Leon - Wait For Me (My ranking: #26) Solid song. I would have preferred if "Temple" outranked it, but this did land very close to my ranking.
24. Rise Against - I Don't Want To Be Here Anymore (My ranking: #72) With the possible exception of "Tragedy + Time", nothing from Rise Against's last three albums has risen above "just okay" territory for me. Overrated on this rankdown and on the rock boards.
23. KONGOS - I'm Only Joking (My ranking: #53) Meh, this one sounded cool on first listen but got old for me pretty fast. 22. The Neighbourhood - Afraid (My ranking #96) Perhaps I was a little harsh with this ranking, but the gratuitous swearing/insults kinda bugs me, and nothing else about the song stands out enough to make up for it.
21. Jack White - Lazaretto (My ranking #36) Not one of my favorites from Jack White and his bands, but it's hard to go too wrong with him. Sensible ranking.
20. Pearl Jam - Sirens (My ranking: #21) Landed very close to where it belongs. Was glad to see Pearl Jam still able to do well on the actual Alt charts in 2014.
19. Arctic Monkeys - Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High? (My ranking: #43) Definitely the weakest single from this album; still pretty good but not top 20-worthy IMO.
18. Crosses - The Epilogue (My ranking: #42) I'm not as into it as other people, but I can definitely see why people love it. I'm cool with it being in the top 20.
17. Chevelle - Take Out The Gunman (My ranking: #41) Interesting how Pulse's 19-18-17 matches my 43-42-41. Again, I'm not as gung-ho about this as others but it's a solid Chevelle track.
16. Young the Giant - It's About Time (My ranking: #58) Again, YTG consistently come out with music that's decent but nothing special. Definitely not top 20-worthy.
15. Hozier - Take Me To Church (My ranking: #27) Although it didn't make my top 20, I'm glad it still landed here despite having some haters. This song still holds up.
14. Death From Above 1979 - Trainwreck 1979 (My ranking: #34) Another example of a heavier song landing higher on the Pulse chart than on mine, but this is still a solid one.
13. CHVRCHES - The Mother We Share (My ranking: #50) I've liked some other songs from this group, but could never get too into this one. Still, it's kind of refreshing to see a less traditionally "rock" sounding song land this high.
12. Foster the People - Coming of Age (My ranking: #4) Glad this got as high as it did considering that this got a mixed reception when it was new, and somewhat underperformed on the charts.
11. Queens of the Stone Age - I Sat By The Ocean (My ranking: #1) Thought (hoped?) this could be a dark horse candidate for Pulse's #1, but I still can't say I'm displeased with where it landed.
10. Bastille - Bad Blood (My ranking: #9) Landed very close to the mark. Figured both Bastille songs would land in the top 10.
9. Big Data - Dangerous (My ranking: #45) I think this song is somewhat overrated, but not shocked it landed in the top 10.
8. Bad Suns - Cardiac Arrest (My ranking: #97) "I've tried my best" to figure out why people love this song so much. I remember being annoyed by it when I first heard it, and that was before I saw all the laudatory comments on this board. I guess I can see why the lyrics resonate with people, but I don't think they're particularly well-written, and the vocals and melody (especially the "oh no" part) are very grating for me.
7. Cage the Elephant - Come A Little Closer (My ranking: #15) One of my favorites from CTE. Pleased with the ranking.
6. Lorde - Team (My ranking: #38) This one's pretty good, definitely the best Lorde song on here, though not as good as "Royals" or a few other singles, and I don't think it deserves top 10.
5. Royal Blood - Out of the Black (My ranking: #28) Royal Blood are definitely overhyped on here, but this is a good song. Not shocked it's top 5, though I'm kinda glad it's not #1.
4. Arctic Monkeys - Do I Wanna Know? (My ranking: #14) Another one that seemed to have a good shot at #1, and I wouldn't have complained if it was, though it missed my top 10.
3. Bastille - Pompeii (My ranking: #8) Same thoughts as #4, except that this did make my top 10.
2. KONGOS - Come With Me Now (My ranking: #29) Pretty cool song, but I don't think it's worthy of being this high up. 1. Seether - Words As Weapons (My ranking: #18) This is the rare post-grunge/Active type track that really stands out for me, and as such I guess I shouldn't be shocked this hit #1, nor am I displeased. I just hope this doesn't open the floodgates for lesser post-grunge fare to dominate rankdowns for previous years.

2013 is probably gonna be worse than this thread I foresee. There are at least 4 songs which I believe don't belong on the chart imo (Avicii, Macklemore x2, C2C) and I'm anticipating the chaos that would happen when these songs are revealed Also, this is more or less the year when heavy rock stopped reaching the top 10 (unless you count Linkin Park and Nine Inch Nails; the last one was Chevelle's "Face to the Floor" in 2011/2012 iirc) Also, I better see Foals do well there. "Inhaler" is an underrated song and "My Number" was great too. Hopefully both tracks go top 40 or 30 at least, but I wouldn't be surprised if they don't, in particular the former track. On the other hand, 2012 Alt rankdown will be awesome.

I totally see "My Number" going Top 10.
That'll be in my Top 5 more than likely.

I totally see "My Number" going Top 10. I'd like to see it happening, but I don't think it'll happen.

Phoenix and Capital Cities were the two artists that pulled me into the Alternative scene iirc. The Shins' "Simple Song" and M83's "Midnight City" in 2012 too.

My favorite Alt and Active songs of the 2010s are both in 2013. Great year for music.

Unsurprisingly my closest was with Red, though not below 20. Farthest was Leo (must be the pop poster leader)

I was just thinking something like this would be really cool to see and here it is. Awesome work! 3 Closest (no surprises here): 1. Red (19.78 second closest pair out of anyone behind Daryl/Red) 2. Daryl 3. Baron also indulge is my farthest at 40.94, which is the least close pairing out of anyone here lol

My closest was Yotam. I'm not a pop poster, I prefer to be a Latin poster. Here are minority latins
