Wait I lied I forgot I had my super sexy box-and-whisker graph for the stat nerds (so, me and Max basically ) Chart goes from #1 on the left to #35 on the right. Circles indicate statistical outliers. If either Leo or quirky had not submitted, Usher would have won by four to nine points. It really did take both of them to knock Usher down, he was always ahead by the span of 50 or more. I am not sure what was more surprising to me though, that Smooth did not pull out the victory in the end despite having so many #1 rankings, or that Whitney only had one #1 ranking. I'm not surprised at the overall diva performance the way some people are. Divas are very popular here, but the catch is that people are always fighting over who is the better diva lol. So I figured some degree of deviation would do a lot of them in. Even when you consider that WFL made the top 5, the gap between that and LY is such that WFL clearly never had a chance of reaching the top. Rihanna, Adele, and Mariah tussled around quite a bit for that #5 spot. Not that it would have made a difference but oddly enough I feel like I ranked Smooth too low at 19. I really like most of these songs though so a lower rank from me is not necessarily indicative of anything.

Damn. I knew I should have participated. "Smooth" would have been my #1 (that or "Gold Digger") and I could have put it there in the rankdown with a probably below median ranking for "I Will Always Love You". It was funny, I came in here a few days ago wondering when the deadline was for submissions, then I noticed that results were halfway done.

Darn, I really wanted Smooth to win (obviously based on my placing). IWALY is a great song too though. Honestly didn't know so many people disliked Uptown Funk. I mean it made top 10 but that standard dev.
Really great job with this by the way cynthia, it was cool reading through the facts.

Maybe include all #2 songs but when people send in their rankdown, they only have to select 44 songs, or 30 or whatever. That way not everyone is ranking every #2 song but every #2 song is included and the ones that get ranked will be the ones that receive points. is this a shade?

I didn't participate in this, but great winner! Also liked the presentation of the results. My #1 would've been between Lose Yourself and I Will Always Love You. (maybe I'll Be Missing You as well)

Well at least I helped tank 'Yeah'? :sip2: Never cared for that song at all, or Usher in general.

I ranked Smooth higher than IWALY but I'm glad Whitney won - only because we'd never hear the end of it from gravey if Smooth got it. :kii:

RIP Gravey!
I'm still pissed about my #1 making bottom 5 but at least my 2 and 3 made top 5.

Several surprises at the top 10. My #26 Dilemma ended up #10. I sort of expected this. However I didn't think my #19 Hello would end up #6! Specially because I love the song and I remember defending it against people claiming it was basic or run of the mill ballad. I could've ranked it higher but maybe it's just too new for me. Only new song I ranked high was UF, close to its final ranking. Another surprise for me is how loved Yeah! is! It was my #17 and I thought it could end up higher but more like 6-10 and not an almost #1!! Happy to see my favorite rap song ever LY in the top 5. Surprised that WFL ended up higher than WBT. I have to confess my #11 ranking for WFL surprised me but I really feel time has helped me really appreciate the qualities of WFL.

because apparently you think Julia Michaels' vocal is awful (true) but love her song because it has a nice "flow". Maybe if Whitney's song has a beat it will overshadow her awful (not true) vocals? Maybe. And I like the lyrics in Issues because I can relate so much. Whitneys Vocals are fine in IWDWS, just I dont like a lot of songs that "scream". (basically why I dont like Chandelier either but love Cheap Thrills) cause Sia isnt screaming in CT. I had a similar issue in the 1990s, especially when comparing Whitney's with Dolly's version. I always felt that I could connect with Dolly's emotion whereas I felt that Whitney's last minute was just too much with the melisma and some screamy vocals. It was still a multiweek #1 in my personal chart though, and I've come to appreciate it more over the years, and really like the a capella and second part of the song. I wasn't sure what its final spot was going to be but I decided for a #3 in the end. Anyway. I'm happy about the top 2. Of course, I had to support my Latino legend for #1!! Plus I really like Smooth as a great Latino/Salsa and pop/rock combo great to see so many people like it as well!

Wow, Lose Yourself dead last? weaver um... I didnt expect this. Want to speak up? Just wondering. LOL...I think I liked the song ok at the time. But I have no use for it now. Maybe I'm getting old but I'm tired of Eminem shouting at me. Also, I guess it's a little ironic to have Mariah at #1 and Em at #35. :kii:

Finally catching up! Thanks for hosting a terrific Rankdown, Cynthia. Now I know what you meant with the PM at the time of the rankdown! Was a lot of fun. Didn't expect "Smooth" to do as well as it did, but glad it's right up there. Would have loved it to be #1, but "I will always love you" is a worthy winner. Oh, and nice work Leo β ;)

Just caught up on this. I was...shocked at the results but at least I ranked IWALY as my #2. I feel like I am terrible at these but keep doing them anyway.
