I'm glad Janet added What About to the setlist and we're discussing abuse.
My only issue is that there's too much speculation, when none of us know what happened. That can be dangerous. And again, I see some folks reverting back to their stereotypes about Islam and Muslim men, when abuse can and does happen in any faith, culture, or part of the world. It's offensive to associate it with one group of people when all of us are susceptible to facing or being affected by abuse.
Whether Janet faced abuse in the past or recently, we should still be careful of assumption and focus on applauding her for shedding light on abuse. Whether it's verbal, physical, or emotional, it's wrong.

When she said "this was me" I didn't take it as she was talking directly about her recent ex. I thought she was just referring to her past when she wrote the song.

Now that my initial excited as died down, I have some observations about the tour, LOL.
I don't understand why she put "Daamn Baby" so far at the end of the set list? If her best video in years and she isn't even doing the choreo full out.
Why isn't she doing more cuts from Unbreakable? "The great Forever" & "Broken Hearts heal" would be great cuts to go with the "state of the world" theme.
She could really cut out some of the Control songs. She has been doing those tracks on every tour and they could use a rest. Especially, nasty and what have you done for me lately.
I would love more of the unbreakable tracks and som eof the Velvet Rope track she never sings anymore like "Go Deep" and "Everytime."
And why is she still using that small stage from when she was doing smaller venues? She needs a bigger stage for Arenas. It just looks waay too compact. I miss her bigger budget productions with more props and set designs. A bigger opening with her doing something more than walking up from behind a screen. :-\

Do we know any numbers yet? What were her numbers like on her last US tour? I find it so bizarre that Janet Jackson doesn't fill up arenas like Madonna does -- she's (still) one of the greatest entertainers of all-time!

stunnedoutShe doesn't need props, she is the show. While she'd make more of a splash with a bigger stage, she's an independent artist and is paying out of her own pocket for the tour. This is not the same stage as Number Ones. Nasty and WHYDFML are staying. I would like to see less Control songs too. woabritneyNo boxscores yet, tonight is only show #4 since Thursday. You can see some numbers on Wikipedia for Unbreakable. There has been no promo, but she's selling majority of tickets for the dates that have happened already. No need to mention other artists.

It's the same stage from the Unbreakable tour and it's too small. She may not "need" props but they enhance the show and elevate it. Multiple set pieces and effects add dynamics to the show. Janet isn't an artist where u just want to hear her sing. U want to see a spectacular show. She may be an independent artist but she has enough coin to invest more in a higher caliber show or get someone like Live Nation to invest, but I would imagine her track record for touring over the last few years wouldn't make people want to.
Overall, it looks like a better show than Number Ones and Unbreakable, but I really want her operating at the level of excellence that she used to. I really think Gil is the weak link, but unfortunately it doesn't seem like he is going anywhere.

I didn't mean to compare, I just think Janet is such a legend she should be selling out everywhere.
Anyway, I looked up #'s for Unbreakable tour and they are pretty good! The only place she struggled a bit was Minneapolis, but other than that pretty impressive. Hopefully word-of-mouth will help this one sell out the remainder of the dates.

stunnedoutI don't disagree with you, but the stripped down approach is what we've been getting since 2011 and she seems to be in her element. woabritneyA lot of people may also have been turned off by the postponing and cancellations. Remember, some people had their shows rescheduled 2 or 3 times (Las Vegas, Kansas City, Saint Louis, Denver) and probably won't bother showing up.

I agree completely about the stage setup and set design; she is still completely entertaining in the "stripped down" setting but if there were more embellishments, it would feel more like a Janet Jackson experience and would possibly incline more people to want to go so they don't miss out on something so captivating.

There is a lot of positive reviews from the show and the first few shows I hear were mostly sold out. It's great to hear such positivity about Janet after so many years of her being disregarded by the mainstream press. It's so good to see her being acknowledged as the icon And legend that she is......but I still want her to give me more over the top production, LOL.
I can't wait to see her next month.

What shows are you all going to?
Aside from Lafayette, I'll be at Jacksonville and Fort Lauderdale/Sunrise.
After seeing the opening night and hacing that setlist snatch my soul, I have to see her multiple times!

Was Number Ones sale-priced last week? It reenters the top 100 on Top Album Sales, with 2,200-plus copies. :)
stunned- she's done the Rhythm Nation songs as much as Control. And let's not forget TTWLG and If, among some others, that are on just about every tour. By doing those songs- some in medley form, some not, fans can't complain that she didn't do this song or that one (though no doubt some still will complain, that she didn't do enough of this song or that one).

I haven't purchased my tickets yet, but I'm planning to go to the Baltimore date on 11/18. D.C. is much closer to me, but I don't return to town until the morning of 11/18. I'm looking forward to seeing her again. I saw the opening night of Unbreakable in Vancouver.

Thanks, gabe. More than 2,100 of the sales were "nontraditional," so that makes sense.
Bethlehem is about 45 minutes from us- same venue where we saw Vicki Lawrence. We had front row for that, but there was this big thing set up across the stage, so she could come out further on stage. (Some acts come out to the audience, so that big thing isn't there in those instances). For Damita, I imagine the stage will have a similar setup to Vicki.

Shame. I'm surprised she dealt with it for so long. She seems like the type to avoid emotional trama.
