Only 3 songs remain without a #1 vote! With me losing my #32 toomuchboy & sabre14 are the only two left with bottom 5 songs! Who'll lose it first? Or are they the same song?

8. Ready To RunPoints: 548 Average Rank: 12 SD: 7.3339 Album: Fly Release Date: June 22, 1999 Writer(s): Marcus Hummon & Martie McGuire Producer(s): Blake Chancey & Paul Worley Charts:U.S. Country: #2 Billboard Hot 100: #39 "Ready to Run" is a song recorded by American country music group Dixie Chicks. It was co-written by the group's fiddler, Martie Seidel (now Martie Maguire) along with Marcus Hummon. It was released in June 1999 as the lead-off single to the band's album Fly, and their sixth entry on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart, reaching number two. This song was featured on the film soundtrack for Runaway Bride, starring Richard Gere and Julia Roberts.
I love the production on this one but I always felt it fell short lyrically.

7. LandslidePoints: 564 Average Rank: 11 SD: 5.9457 Album: Home Release Date: September 2, 2002 Writer(s): Stevie Nicks Producer(s): Dixie Chicks & Lloyd Maines Charts:Australia: #6 Canada: #2 New Zealand: #27 UK Singles: #55 U.S. Adult Contemporary: #1 U.S. Adult Top 40: #2 U.S. Country: #2 U.S. Mainstream Top 40: 13 Billboard Hot 100: #7 The country group Dixie Chicks covered "Landslide" on their 2002 album Home and it was released September 2, 2002 as the album's second single. This rendition, featuring the group's trademark two- and three-part harmonies reached the Top 10 of both the Billboard Hot 100 (number 7) and Hot Country Songs charts (number 2) as well as several other charts. It became the Dixie Chicks' only number 1 single (to date) on the adult contemporary chart. Lead singer Natalie Maines said she was attracted, in part, to the song because she was then the same age that Nicks was when she initially performed it. Their rendition has been certified Gold by both the RIAA and ARIA, matching the commercial success of the original. "Landslide" debuted at number 32 on the US Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart for the week of September 7, 2002.
Such a beautiful cover and amazing production! I think I underranked this looking back now!

In seriousness, it's been so long I've forgotten all my old predictions or how many songs I have left lol. If I'm not mistaken this was the rankdown my top ten got pierced through like swiss cheese, but my #1 is still hanging in there.
Okay I'm gonna go work on my own rankdown now b/c I want to be finished by Monday, too!

This song is beautiful. Pure country/bluegrass perfection. Also I vastly prefer this to the Fleetwood Mac version. Because the Dixie Chicks version does everything better.

I remember when the msuic video premiered on CMT, it was a big episode! I don't know if they still do it but CMT used to have a half-hour show each week that premiered new music videos and this particular week had Ready To Run and Jupiter by Jewel. I know there was another video that was hyped up that week too but I forget what it was.

I love how 4 people ranked "There's Your Trouble" at #9 and that's where it ended up... and then the same thing happened with "Ready to Run" at #8. I was never big on "Landslide" but it holds a special place in my heart now after playing it as my dad's funeral song. :'(

6. Long Time GonePoints: 595 Average Rank: 10 SD: 6.8841 Album: Home Release Date: May 17, 2002 Writer(s): Darrell Scott Producer(s): Dixie Chicks & Lloyd Maines Charts:U.S. Country: #2 Billboard Hot 100: #7 "Long Time Gone" is a country song by Darrell Scott, originally recorded by him on his 2000 album Real Time which Scott recorded together with Tim O'Brien.
The song was covered by the Dixie Chicks on their 2002 album Home, despite having been written from a male point of view. Released in May 2002 as the lead single from Home, it reached a peak of number 2 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart[1] and number 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Their version won a Grammy Award for Best Country Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group.
The song chronicles a young man's journey away from his family farm to Nashville to become a musician, and eventually back to his hometown, where he settles down to raise a family. The song's last verse criticizes contemporary country music as having no soul, referencing several famous country musicians: “ Now they sound tired but they don't sound Haggard / They got money but they don't have Cash / They got Junior but they don't have Hank... ” Despite its upbeat bluegrass melody, the song's lyrics resolve to a very pessimistic outlook on the future of music.
I originally thought this was going to be a contender for #1 but it was never really close. I still think this sounds so fresh and I think it could work on radio today.

My prediction: 9. There's Your Trouble 8. Ready To Run 7. Landslide6. Goodbye Earl 5. Long Time Gone 4. Travelin' Soldier 3. Wide Open Spaces 2. Cowboy Take Me Away 1. Not Ready to Make Nice Eyyyy, I totally nailed 3/4 of the last reveals. Predicted LTG would beat out 'Earl,' but it came out a spot lower than I guessed. I hope Earl is next, or 4th at the absolute highest. The Top 3 should definitely be Wide Open, Cowboy, and Nice.

I'm so incredibly bummed I missed the cutoff for this, the Chicks are my favorite Country band and probably the best Country act of the 00's in my book.
My #1 would have been TOTW, I'm shocked it missed the top ten.
I'm happy to see Not Ready To Make Nice, Long Time Gone & Wide Open Spaces still in, but I wouldn't have placed Trouble, Landslide, Goodbye Earl or Ready To Run in the top 10.
There's Your Trouble is great, but it's just...there for me. Enjoyable, but also a bit of a throwaway in terms of quality.

I'm honestly surprised to see "Travelin' Soldier" and "Goodbye Earl" place in the top five. Not upset at all because I like both of them, just surprised that they aren't perceived as more polarizing here.

The top 5 is pretty much exactly what I expected it would be from the moment this rankdown started :) Time for a prediction!
5) Goodbye Earl 4) Travelin' Soldier 3) Wide Open Spaces 2) Cowboy Take Me Away 1) Not Ready To Make Nice
I'd honestly be fine with any of these winning it!!! I think Earl is the least likely, but I would honestly not be surprised to see any of the others pull it off. I wouldn't even be too surprised if "Travelin' Soldier" managed to push through one or two of the others to end up in the top 3. We'll see! No matter what, I'll be happy!

I love how everyone thought this would be top 3!5. Wide Open SpacesPoints: 597 Average Rank: 10 SD: 5.4978 Album: Wide Open Spaces Release Date: July 28, 1998 Writer(s): Susan Gibson Producer(s): Blake Chancey & Paul Worley Charts:
Canada Country: #1 U.S. Country: #1 Billboard Hot 100: #41 "Wide Open Spaces" is a song written by Susan Gibson, and recorded by American country music group Dixie Chicks. It was released in July 1998 as the third single and title track from the band's album Wide Open Spaces.[1] The song hit number one on the U.S. Country singles chart and spent four weeks there in November 1998.[1][2] It also placed to number 41 on the U.S. Pop singles chart. It reached number one on Canada's country music chart, their first chart-topper there and presaging a long history of support for the band. In 2001, the RIAA placed "Wide Open Spaces" at number 259 on its 365 Songs of the Century list. In 2003, CMT named it number 22 in its 100 Greatest Songs in Country Music list.
Amarillo, Texas-based Susan Gibson wrote the song's first lyrics in 1993, on her first visit back home after leaving for forestry school at the University of Montana.[3][4] She left the notebook containing the lyrics at home by mistake when she returned to school; her mother found it and included it in a care package, inspiring Gibson to complete a song along the themes of leaving home.[3] She first performed it in local clubs around the University of Montana, where it was sometimes requested.[4] By the late 1990s, Gibson was lead singer of the alt country band The Groobees.[5] They recorded an album, Wayside, that included "Wide Open Spaces"[3] and which would be released in 1999. It was produced by Lloyd Maines, father of new Dixie Chicks lead singer Natalie Maines.
Lloyd Maines identified with the tale of a daughter leaving home, and thought it would match Natalie's vocal character well; he brought the song to the group,[6] who tested it in concert a few times to a strong response.[3] Both the Chicks and Sony Music agreed with Lloyd Maines' assessment, not only recording it but making it the title tune of the Maines-era group's first album as well.[5][6] The youthful, romantic, adventurous sense of independence featured in "Wide Open Spaces" helped key much of the group's new image; it thus became one of their signature songs and proved very popular among young teenage girls.[1] The lyric speaks of possibilities yet undiscovered: She needs wide open spaces, Room to make her big mistakes She needs new faces — She knows the high stakes The lyric has been considered an exemplar of the songwriting strategy in which lines are not repeated in either the verses or chorus.[7] The Texas, bluegrass-flavored arrangement[1] in the recording begins with a fiddle riff, with the band soon joining in. Verses are sung by Natalie Maines by herself, with drums, fiddle, and soft guitar and piano carrying the accompaniment. Choruses feature sisters Emily Erwin and Martie Seidel backing Maines with harmony vocals, and also add a banjo line. The instrumental break features Erwin and Seidel on mandolin and fiddle respectively. The main fiddle riff then brings the recording to a close. Emily Erwin was proud that the group's hits such as this were still able to incorporate the banjo, an instrument the Nashville establishment often frowned upon as being too hillbilly.[8] Susan Gibson and "Wide Open Spaces" has been considered an example of the influence of the West Texas influence in country music songwriting;[9] Gibson herself considers Amarillo to be "where the wide open spaces are. Amarillo has the most beautiful sunsets."[3] Gibson's childhood family drives from Amarillo to Missoula, Montana also trace the song's lyric and settings.[4] The song gained Nashville respect, as it was named the Country Music Association Awards Single of the Year in 1999.[10] It also won Gibson the American Songwriter Professional Country Songwriter of the Year award in early 2000,[10] as well as a BMI award the previous year.[10] Although the song itself was not nominated for a Grammy Award (the album was, as was its previous single, "There's Your Trouble", both of which won in their categories),[11] it was included on the various artists 1999 Grammy Nominees compilation album.
