I think my cutoff for amazing to great was somewhere in the lower teens on my list, and then great to good was the low 20s. LAndslide was #26 or something on my list. I very much enjoy the song but it's all the way down at #26. Just the best discography, they have! There IS no wrong answer for #1 as far as I'm concerned. I'm pleasantly surprised Traveling Soldier remains though.

Pleasantly surprised and very ecstatic that "Goodbye Earl" is still in. Especially since it beat "Wide Open Spaces" (I like that song a lot, but "Goodbye Earl" is just more fun and creative imo)

4. Travelin' SoldierPoints: 605 Average Rank: 10 SD: 7.3882 Album: Home Release Date: December 20, 2002 Writer(s): Bruce Robison Producer(s): Dixie Chicks & Lloyd Maines Charts:U.S. Country: #1 Billboard Hot 100: #25 "Travelin' Soldier" is a song written and originally recorded by American country music artist Bruce Robison in 1996 and again, in rewritten form, in 1999. It was later recorded by Ty England on his 1999 album, Highways & Dance Halls. The first rendition to be issued as a single was by the Dixie Chicks in December 2002, from their album Home. It became the group's sixth and final single to reach No. 1 on Billboard "Hot Country Singles & Tracks" (now "Hot Country Songs"). A version of the song featuring Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks, Bruce Robison and Robison's wife, Kelly Willis, appears on KGSR's Broadcasts Vol. 13 album.[1] Also rewritten by country singer Aaron Lewis in 2016 on album "Sinner"
The song is a tale about a shy, lonesome, young American soldier who strikes up a conversation and later a correspondence with a high school girl during the Vietnam War era. Americana details pervade the lyrics as the song details the correspondence as a relationship forms between the two, despite the insurmountable distance. The last letter from the soldier mentions that "it's gettin kinda rough over here" and he "won't be able to write for a while" before skipping ahead to a football game at the girl's high school. After the anthem and Lord's Prayer, the local Vietnam dead are announced. The soldier's name is on the list, but only the girl, who is there, recognizes his name, and she mourns for him as stated in the line "One name read and nobody really cared but a pretty little girl with a bow in her hair."
This song was one of the first songs I could sing all the words to by heart without any musical prompts. I used to have such trouble remembering lyrics but something in this song just made me want to learn it all.

With #4 taking out 3 number ones we're left with 10 #1's still in play! Congrats to austincastleoblivion26@antigonerising .indulgecountryTroublemakerKanenrá:kemamasaidraylatch98Devil Marlena Nylund& zaclord 🌈We all had our top song make the top 3! Unfortunately for quite a few of those #1's will leave when song #3 is revealed! I'd also like to take the time now to point out how close the top 3 are! Song #3 has 645 pts. Song #2 has 645 pts. Song #1 has 646 pts.!!!! Due to the closeness of the results I made sure to count them multiple times but it's true one point between them all! If #1 had got one less point it would've came in 3rd!

3. Not Ready To Make NicePoints: 645 Average Rank: 8 SD: 8.6365 Album: Taking The Long Way Release Date: June 5, 2006 Writer(s): Martie Maguire, Natalie Maines, Emily Robison, & Dan Wilson Producer(s): Rick Rubin Charts:
Australia: #18 Germany: #89 Ireland: #47 Netherlands: #77 Sweden: #20 UK: #70 U.S. Adult Top 40: #36 U.S. Adult Contemporary: #32 U.S. Country: #36 Billboard Hot 100: #4 "Not Ready to Make Nice" is a song co-written and performed by American country music band Dixie Chicks. It was released in June 2006 as the first single from the band's seventh studio album, Taking the Long Way. It remains the band's biggest hit in the US to date. The song was written by Natalie Maines, Martie Maguire, Emily Robison, and Dan Wilson. On February 11, 2007, it won three Grammy Awards in the categories of Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.[1] In 2009, Rolling Stone named "Not Ready to Make Nice" the 77th best song of the decade.
Controversy erupted over the Dixie Chicks in 2003 following a critical comment vocalist Natalie Maines made on the American President George W. Bush while performing in a concert in London, United Kingdom. In relation to the forthcoming invasion of Iraq, Maines said, "...we don't want this war, this violence, and we're ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas."[3] Taking the Long Way was the first studio album released by the Dixie Chicks after that. The controversy, and the band's reaction to it, is the major theme of some of the songs in the album, including "Not Ready to Make Nice". The song, which was written by all three band members (Maines, Emily Robison and Martie Maguire) along with Dan Wilson, is a statement of how they feel over the controversy, the banning of their songs from country music radio stations, and freedom of speech. The band went on to the October 25 episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show to promote the documentary film Shut Up and Sing and the music video of the song was quickly shown.[4] While interviewing the band, Winfrey said the song is so well written that someone cannot even tell if it concerns the controversy. Indeed, Maines said that she and the other songwriters wanted the song to have a universal interpretation. However, the final lines of the fourth verse are unequivocally about the death threats the band received during the 2003 Top of the World Tour: "And how in the world Can the words that I said Send somebody so over the edge That they'd write me a letter Saying that I better shut up and sing Or my life will be over." Some other lines in the beginning of this same verse are about a scene featured in the documentary Shut Up and Sing, in which a mother, who was protesting the Dixie Chicks at one of their concerts, is goading her young child to say "screw 'em!": "It's a sad sad story When a mother will teach her Daughter that she ought'a hate a perfect stranger." In the song, "daughter" was used instead of "son" as a matter of poetic license. Comments by band members[edit] The band members released their comments about writing the songs of Taking the Long Way through the website Frontpage Publicity.[5] They commented the following about "Not Ready to Make Nice": Emily: "The stakes were definitely higher on that song. We knew it was special because it was so autobiographical, and we had to get it right. We've all gone through so many emotions about the incident. We talked for days with Dan before putting pen to paper, and he really helped get inside our heads and put these feelings out. And once we had this song done, it freed us up to do the rest of the album without that burden." Martie: "We had reached a point where we were laughing a lot about it, and people didn't really know how far it had gone. I realized I had suppressed a lot about the death threat. It all came flooding back in the process of writing this song, I think we all realized just how painful it had been for us.." Natalie: "We tried to write about the incident a few times, but you get nervous that you're being too preachy or too victimized or too nonchalant. Dan came in with an idea that was some kind of concession, more 'can't we all just get along?' and I said, nope, I can't say that, can't do it. And we talked about it, and he said, what about "I'm not ready to make nice?" From the outside, normal people really weren't aware of how bizarre and absurd it got. Dan was really good at cluing in to that, saying something that didn't back down, but still had a vulnerability to it. This album was therapy. To write these songs allowed me to find peace with everything and move on."
This song was #1 right up until I received sabre14 's chart!

honestly wish I had ranked "Goodbye Earl" lower than I did because I don't really want that to be #1 but I really do not want "Cowboy Take Me Away" to be #1. So no matter what I have to say a bit disappointed lol. I like both songs so okay, just a bit shocked

2. Cowboy Take Me AwayPoints: 645 Average Rank: 8 SD: 7.6067 Album: Fly Release Date: November 8, 1999 Writer(s): Marcus Hummon & Martie Maguire Producer(s): Blake Chancey & Paul Worley Charts:Canada: #1 U.S. Country: #1 Billboard Hot 100: #27 "Cowboy Take Me Away" is a song written by Martie Seidel and Marcus Hummon, and recorded by American country music group Dixie Chicks. It was released in November 1999 as the second single from their album Fly. The song's title is derived from a famous slogan used in commercials for Calgon bath and beauty products. It reached number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Singles and Tracks chart in February 2000.
Driven by co-writer Martie Seidel's violin, Emily Robison's banjo, and Natalie Maines' evocative vocals, "Cowboy Take Me Away" quickly became one of the trio's signature songs. The lyric deals with a mixture of yearning for greater tranquility: I wanna walk and not run, I wanna skip and not fall I wanna look at the horizon, and not see a building standing tall with plaintive desire for emotional, romantic connection, and simple joyous acceptance against a minor chord turning into major: Oh it sounds good to me, yeah it sounds so good to me Cowboy, take me away ... Starting with a quiet opening, the record ramps up to a mid-tempo country-pop groove and features violin breaks from Seidel as well as an exuberant outro. Maines was praised for a "sincere" vocal that escaped the clichés of "Nashville music-factory tearjerkers".[1] "Cowboy Take Me Away" has become a staple of the Chicks' concert set lists, appearing from the Fly Tour onwards. Cowboy Take Me Away played on a number of local Christian radio stations in Uganda

1. Goodbye EarlPoints: 646 Average Rank: 8 SD: 5.8225 Album: Fly Release Date: February 29, 2000 Writer(s): Dennis Linde Producer(s): Blake Chancey & Paul Worley Charts:
Canada Country: #5 U.S. Country: #13 Billboard Hot 100: #19 "Goodbye Earl", written by Dennis Linde, is a country music song. Initially recorded by the band Sons of the Desert for an unreleased album in the late 1990s, the song gained fame when it was recorded by the Dixie Chicks on their fifth studio album, Fly. After charting from unsolicited airplay in late 1999, the song was released as that album's third single in 2000, peaking at #13 on Billboard's Hot Country Singles & Tracks (now Hot Country Songs) charts. The CD single includes an ironic 'B-Side' cover of "Stand By Your Man" by Tammy Wynette.
Linde had written several songs that included a character by the name of "Earl," most notably "Queen of My Double Wide Trailer" by Sammy Kershaw (wherein Earl is the "other man" of the narrative, described as a man who rebuilds automobile engines and is nicknamed "the Charlie Daniels of the torque wrench," which stems from his rather fast ability at his profession). This song was (in part) an effort to kill off the "Earl" character that had been used in past songs.
The song uses black comedy to tell the story of two best friends from high school, and what became of them after graduation. Mary Ann leaves the town where they were raised, while Wanda settles on marrying a man named "Earl," who physically abuses her repeatedly. Wanda files for divorce based on the domestic violence, but "Earl walked right through that restraining order and put her in intensive care." Mary Ann flies in from Atlanta, Georgia, and after a discussion, the women decide "that Earl had to die," and they kill him, by poisoning or drugging his black-eyed peas. The song plot has been described as a cross between the films Fried Green Tomatoes and Thelma and Louise.[1] Linde plays acoustic guitar on the song, while producers Blake Chancey and Paul Worley, along with Charlie Robison, provide backing vocals.
"Goodbye Earl" reached a peak position of number 13 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, a spot somewhat short of the Chicks' usual placings at the time. It also made the Top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, peaking at number 19, and would become the trio's highest charting song among pop listings until "Long Time Gone" in the summer of 2002. Regardless of rankings, the song has become one of the Chicks' most well-known tunes. It is an enthusiastically-received staple of all their concert tours.

No way at Wide Open Spaces, Not Ready To Make Nice & Solider being eliminated at once. Brutal :'( . I agree with the sentiments that the Chicks are so hard to rank though, because they're discography is just that great. I'm rioting if Earl takes it over the iconic masterpiece Cowboy Take Me Away. Also, bboat11, many thanks for the welcome! I'm not really new, I deactivated for a little while. If I'm able to change it to my most recent username you might recognize it ;) .
