Shame that there won't be a gigantic indie smash a la Somebody Else this time around.

Really looking forward to the album, Brief Inquiry is one of my favorite albums from last year.

Notes On A Conditional Form is available for pre-order on iTunes and it will be released on February 21, 2020. It contains 22 tracks, including the opening song "The 1975" featuring Greta Thunberg and "People", which is the lead single. The latter will be out on August 22.

The album is okay, I'm keeping about half of it. I'm bummed out *nothing* else on it reaches the melodic heights of "If You're Too Shy (Let Me Know)".

The only ones I see myself going back to are "Me & You Together Song" and "If You're Too Shy (Let Me Know)". The album is way too long and sonically all over the place. I've never been a big fan of their albums as a whole though, even though I love many of their singles.

They’ve released stems for some of their songs on the Mindshower.ai website. It’s honestly incredible what they’ve done with that. Loads of images and info as well. Matty said it’s gonna be updated as well.

Ah jeez. Is this new album worth listening to? I thought their last album was a strong 9/10 and one of my top 3 favourite albums of 2018, all the singles were perfect and Love It If We Made It is one of my favourite songs of the last decade and I think they’re amazing live even though other than that album I’ve never really cared for anything else they’ve done. The singles for this album were pretty hit or miss as well and I’m not sure if I wanna put myself through this long an album from then. Help!

This is personally my favourite album by them. It’s definitely the least accessible. But if you give it the time of day I’m sure you’ll find at least a few songs you’ll love. A lot of the songs are basically frail State of Mind but better. My favourites are What Should I Say, I Think There’s Something You Should Know, Bagsy Not In Net, Nothing Revealed/Everything Denied, and Roadkill.

This is the most conflicted 6/10 album I've heard all year. Like it's...good? I think? It's better than their last album that's for sure but I don't know if I like it because even though it's more cohesive, it's long, and while the fusion of electronica is done better, the band is still lacking the humor and energy their first two albums had.

Also, I say this, I was expected to be super disappointed but at least I wasn't as disappointed as I was with Car Seat Headrest. Idk how I would've dealt with having to listen to bad albums from both bands in the same month.

Sonically all over the place has been their trademark.
I am excited to listen to this when it arrives today!

On 1st listen, this may be LONG, but I think it's better than their previous albums overall (I never heard their debut). Tracks 1-12 are flawless. I give the whole album a B+.
1. The Birthday Party (just...stunning. their best song.) 2. If You're Too Shy (they can do this in their sleep, but they do it so well) 3. Playing On My Mind (gorgeous) 4. Having No Head 5. Tonight (single-ready) 6. I Think There's Something You Should Know (wow...) 7. Roadkill (exquisite. seriously, what kind of versatility?!) 8. Jesus Christ 2005 God Bless America 9. Me & You Together Song 10. Nothing Revealed/Everything Denied 11. Guys 12. Bagsy Not In Net 13. Shiny Collarbone 14. Frail State of Mind 15. Yeah I Know (hit that shit, don't lick that shit stays stuck in my head) 16. Don't Worry 17. Then Because She Goes 18. The End 19. What Should I Say 20. People 21. The 1975 22. Streaming

Let this album sit with me for a couple days and damn, I really like this. I don’t love it the way I loved A Brief Inquiry (there’s no Inside Your Mind or LIIWMI on here) but it’s still a really freakin good album. It’s biggest problem is that there’s a few tracks that sound way too similar to other tracks and should’ve been cut, but aside from that I think it’s really good. The band doesn’t trade having a more poppy and engineered sound for their instruments and status as a band. When they come back to the sounds that they were doing on their first couple of albums it sounds so much more improved and shows how much they have grown since then even though I still don’t care for those first two albums. I love this creative streak that they’re on right now and that they’ve built so well on this sound that defines them so well. Jesus Christ 2005 God Bless America is probably my favourite song here, the lyrics are beautiful and I wasn’t expecting Phoebe Bridgers to come in like that so when she did I was floating. Overall there are some amazing highlights and I really enjoyed it but there are a couple of duds that are just too similar to better songs that they’ve already done that should’ve been cut. 7/10.

I was so rude to What Should I Say, omg I am so sorry. I would probably put it at #15. Then Because She Goes can go in its old place.

NOTES ON A CONDITIONAL FORM goes number 1 in the U.K.! The 1975 are one of 6 bands to reach number 1 with their first 4 albums, the others being Coldplay, Oasis, Arctic Monkeys, The Killers and Keane. Not a bad list to be on.

I've given this album a third listen...it is still too long but Jesus Christ 2005 is one of the best songs of the year, my god.
Also every instrumental and experimental electronic track like Shiny Collarbone (which I actually don't mind but it makes no sense on this album) should've been cut. Matty Healy should probably just make a new band and tack on all their ambient pieces under a new name. Their compositions aren't bad but they don't fit with the tone and lyrics of the albums, I would probably enjoy the ambient pieces more if they were like under The 3075 and they marketed it as separate form their main work.

OKAY...How did I not know about this band!?
I LOVE "If Youre Too Shy," so I decided to check out their other stuff, and I LOVE IT. Perfect band for the summer.
If anyone has suggestions for good bands like this, Id love them. I have a thing for euphoric/electro (especially retro sounding) pop bands. Im slow to discover bands/singes sometimes, and any suggestions are greatly appreciated. :)

I feel like CHVRCHES is pretty similar, they sound like they'd fit perfectly into your description of electro, retro pop bands as well. I also really enjoy The Midnight, Florence + The Machine, Charli XCX's last 4 albums. Pale Waves are pretty much a female faced version of The 1975. Their sound is very similar to If Youre Too Shy so you should really like that. (Also, shameless self promo, but check out my The 1975 Rankdown I'm hosting. It will really help you get into the band as it covers all 5 of their eras really well, covering as much of their discography's highlights as possible. There's a link in my signature.)
