"Hot n Cold" is a song by American singer Katy Perry. The song was written by Perry, Dr. Luke, and Max Martin and produced by Dr. Luke and Benny Blanco for her second studio album, One of the Boys (2008). The track was released as the album's second single on September 9, 2008. The lyrics address an unstable romantic relationship caused by a partner's mood swings.
The song reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Perry's second consecutive top three single, following "I Kissed a Girl". It also became Perry's second top five single in the United Kingdom, Australia, Ireland and New Zealand, and topped the charts in Finland, Germany, Canada, Norway, Spain, and Denmark, among others. To date, "Hot n Cold" has sold over 5.6 million copies in the US, making it one of Perry's highest-selling singles in the nation.

"Teenage Dream" is a song by American singer Katy Perry. It was released as the second single from her third studio album of the same name on July 23, 2010. Perry and Bonnie McKee wrote many songs with youthful themes in mind, but they were rejected by producers Benny Blanco and Dr. Luke. Blanco showed them The Teenagers' single "Homecoming", and McKee imagined "Teenage Dream" as a throwback song to the euphoric feelings of being in love as a teenager. They met with Max Martin in Perry's hometown of Santa Barbara, California and started writing the track at Playback Recording Studio, which Perry later described as a pure moment for her. After Perry recorded her vocals, McKee presented her idea and the chorus was rewritten. Perry also described the song as reminiscent of her youth while contemplating her future marriage to Russell Brand.
Musically, "Teenage Dream" is a mid-tempo pop song with a retro sound. It is styled in the genres of power pop and electropop, while taking influence from other genres such as disco and pop rock. Perry starts the song in a high-pitched voice while her vocals grow stronger as the song progresses. Lyrically, "Teenage Dream" discusses being with a lover who makes one feel young again. The song has topped the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Perry's third number-one single on that chart, and her second consecutive number-one single after "California Gurls". "Teenage Dream" has been certified seven times platinum in the United States, as well as receiving platinum and multi-platinum certifications in other countries.
A music video for the song was filmed in various locations around Perry's hometown in Santa Barbara, California and was directed by Yoann Lemoine (a.k.a. Woodkid). The video showcases Perry being in love with her high school lover. Perry has performed the song on Saturday Night Live, the 2010 Teen Choice Awards, 53rd Grammy Awards and other occasions. "Teenage Dream" was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, becoming Perry's third nomination in the category. Rolling Stone listed the song as the fourth best song of 2010 while Billboard declared it the second best song of the 2010s. The song is featured in the Best Buy edition of Just Dance 3. The song has been covered numerous times appearing on such as American Idol, The Voice, and Glee.

Glad "Hot N Cold" didn't win at least. TD is alright and a pretty expected winner. @ me having lowest ranks for both tho.

This was a fun rankdown! Good job on it! Can't argue with the #1. It wasn't my pick but it's still a good song and obviously beloved. Good all around!

Can someone just tell me real quick how you calculate SD? I let Excel calculate it for me1. Find the average (mean) rank for the song 2. For each individual rank, subtract the mean and then square the result 3. Find the average (mean) for all of the squared results from step 2 4. Find the square root of the result you got in #3 Edit - to go with what Leo said, the Excel formula on a US English computer will be =STDEV(data range here)

Called this final two quite a while back, and I'm so happy I was right. Fantastic results. Perfect number one. Teenage Dream is pretty much a masterpiece of pop music, and one of the most perfectly created pop songs of this decade.

46. Dr.Indie 10.78 47. aerodynamite 11.67 How did this member beat me? I thought I would have that 47 postion on lock? I'm not even a popster anyway, 3. E.T.Katy Perry Dark pop style. You all know where I stand? 2. Hot and ColdDamn! I wanted this to win so bad. Oh well, I nailed it's position on this rankdown. It's also probably why aerodynamite beat me on closeness stats. 1. Teenage DreamNot too Terrible. The guitars could have had a bit more punch, but she sounded great.

I'll quote this good guy who teach me how to do that To find the closeness for any given song, it is the difference between your ranking and the actual ranking. For example, if you ranked a song at #50 and it had an actual ranking of #40, the closeness for that song would be 10 (50 - 40). For multiple songs, to find the closeness you have to take the average of your closeness for all of the songs. For example, let's take this set of 3 rankings: Your ranking: 50 Actual ranking: 40 Closeness: 10 Your ranking: 49 Actual ranking: 45 Closeness: 4 Your ranking: 48 Actual ranking: 68 Closeness: 20 The average of the closeness would be the sum of 10, 4 and 20 which is 34 divided by 3 which is 11.33. This can be extended to an entire rankdown. When I calculate it, I use a spreadsheet that has all of the formulas already in it so I just have to enter all of the individual rankings of the participants. I hope I made sense. Let me know if you have any questions. :)

Beautiful! Thank you! Might be tough to do with my rankdown since every entry has people who didn't include it in their ranks (unless I say non-ranking artists equal 51, which I considered doing for my average) but definitely useful for any other I might do in the future!

YES "Teenage Dream"!!! It's such a good pop song. I'm really close to the to in closeness! Just to make sure, it's the closeness to the Pulse ranking right? Leo β do you think you could maybe run a closeness test for you and me? I want to see if our tastes actually matched statistically because based on what I've seen we tended to rank songs pretty similarly (I can't remember in the lower ranks but in the high ranks I think this was the case).

I hope it's 3. E.T. > 2. Hot N Cold > 1. TD Clearly I forgot I ranked HnC #1 in the rankdown, lol. They are pretty close to equal for me.

Oh dang, I knew that it would be the opposite of my rankings of the songs. I don't like Teenage Dream as much as I like most of her big hits. It's a decent winner, but I much rather see E.T or HnC winning :/
Anyways, Thanks for hosting Leo! :)

Well, E.T. ending at #3 might be sad but considering how high its SD is I should be happy. I'm ok with TD winning but Hot N Cd would've been better
