Truthfully, after T&S and Arcade Fire went out, I was hoping for Nelly to win. Damn. I think Celine is more universally liked so I place my bet on her then Would've loved to see Alanis win tho Don't know if this is spoiler alert territory, but I'll put it in a spoiler tag, anyway... {SPOILER}I didn't include Celine AND included Alanis.

2. Celine Dion
Total Points: 764 Number of lists: 19 Average Rank: 10.8 Median: 5
Years Active: 1980-present Biggest album: Falling Into You (1996) Biggest hit single: My Heart Will Go On (1998)
Province: Quebec en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celine_Dion
Celine has the highest average placement in the whole rankdown with 10.8. Not only is she the only artist to have a median rank in the top 5, sheβs the only artist to have a median in the top 10 at all! She had the most Top 10 placements with half of all the rankdowns (12) placing her in their top 10. She had just one #1 rankdown but five #2s, more than any other.

Celine Dion first met her manager RenΓ© AngΓ©lil, who later became her husband, when she was 12. He mortgaged his house in order to get the money to kickstart her career. When they married in 1994, their wedding was broadcast live on television in Canada. In 1983, at 15, she became the first Canadian artist to earn a gold single in France. She won the 1988 Eurovision Song Contest representing Switzerland. She recorded 8 albums in French before her first English album Unison, which came out in 1990. Two of which were certified gold, one platinum and one double platinum. She even had a Best Of Celine Dion compilation album out in 1988. If you thought Celine was like your uncoolest aunt, in the music video for her Francophone single Un garΓ§on pas comme les autres (Ziggy), sheβs chillinβ in the boys locker room looking at the naked guys. Her 1994 single Think Twice was the fourth single by a female artist to sell a million copies in the UK. Her album Dβeux is the best selling Francophone album of all time with worldwide sales of over 10 million copies. She is the second best selling artist in the Soundscan era. Her album Letβs Talk About Love sold over 230,000 copies in Canada in its first week. A record that still stands. Two songs she sang on won the Academy Award for Best Original Song, Beauty and the Beast and My Heart Will Go On. Two other songs she sang, Because You Loved Me and The Prayer, were nominated in that category.
#1. Alanis Morissette !!!!
Total Points: 764 Number of lists: 22 Average Rank: 16.3 Median: 13
Years Active: 1987-present Biggest album: Jagged Little Pill (1995) Biggest hit single: Ironic (1996)
Province: Ontario en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alanis_Morissette
Alanis appeared on more lists than any other artist, with 22 of the 24 submissions including her. Of those 22 lists, nobody ranked her at #1 but she did receive four #2 placements. As I was tabulating lists, Alanis was the last to be present on every list until I got to Pipa , which was the 12th list tabulated. She appeared in the top half of 17 lists, more than any other. While tabulating, Celine Dion was almost always in the lead with occasional leads by both Nelly Furtado and Alanis. It was when born βs list came in that Alanis was given the final edge up and then the final last minute submission by Juanca put them both in a tie. Despite Celine Dion having a #1 and more top 10 placements, Alanis won the tiebreaker by being on more lists.

Before starting her music career, Alanis appeared on the Canadian childrenβs TV series You Canβt Do That On Television. In 1991, her first album Alanis was released. It went platinum in Canada and gave her three top 40 singles, including the top 20 hit Too Hot, which was nominated for Single of the Year at the Junos. The album being dance-pop usually lead to comparisons to Debbie Gibson and Tiffany. Her third album Jagged Little Pill was released to small expectations but ended up as the second best selling album ever by a woman. Her long awaited followup album, Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie, sold 469,000 copies in its first week, a record at the time for a solo woman. When she released her single Everything in 2004, radio stations in the US refused to play it because the first line contained the word βassholeβ. A version was released with βnightmareβ as a replacement. Meanwhile, Canadian radio stations used the opportunity to take pride in Canadaβs censorship-free laws by playing the song in its original form. She recorded a parody video cover of the Black Eyed Peas song My Humps, becoming one of the earliest viral videos. She has a twin brother. She was ranked Pulse's favourite Canadian artist!

You're welcome, Sam.
Deserving enough winner, even if my ranking is kind of low compared to just about everyone else. "Uninvited" and "You Oughta Know" are both still great.

Can't believe that they got the exact same amount of points, we all could've change the result just by moving them by one position. That's awesome & sad at the same time.
I wanted Celine to win because she deserves it but I'm obviously happy with the result:)

Would've preferred Celine, but Alanis is an acceptable winner. The whole Top 5 was pretty perfect. <3

Nelly would've won if I would've remembered to put her on my list πͺ.
Happy with the top 2 though, great to see Alanis Morisette take it all. Thanks for hosting Rose!

aka "those damn rock posters" But seriously, great list, even if only like 5 of my artists made it LOL. hahaha, truth be told, the rock acts did better than I expected consider where this rankdown is. I know Canada isn't particularly known for its divas but I was quite surprised to see the presence of a lot of older artists and indie acts. Granted, they didn't do super well but in a way, I'm glad of that. I find every all-time Canadian artist/song list tends to look the same and while I know there's a reason the same artists and songs do well, I think the constant focus on them over and over again year after year covers up a lot of great new artists who are also great in their own way and deserve recognition. There's more to the all-time Canadian greats than the Guess Who, Anne Murray, Joni and Cohen. But despite that, I'm still glad you and many of the others kept those classics in there to help legitimize the list a little bit. They certainly shouldn't be ignored either.

I have to agree that this list is more diverse than I was expecting. I would have loved to see artists like Sloan and Stompin' Tom make the list, but hey, that's what the CBC is for LOL.

Great job, Max!! I'm of course SUPER HAPPY that my Top 2 was THE Top 2. To be honest, up until the last minute I was debating on whether to rank Bryan Adams #2 or #3. (I didn't have any doubt on Celine, as she's one of my favorite artists ever.) So I could've literally changed the results with that decision :O Alanis is AWESOME though! Listening to YOK for the first time was amazing, and then the whole album was great as well, as well as the follow-up album, Uninvited, the MTV Unplugged, etc., etc. And My Humps was just SO.MUCH.FUN --as well as seeing her in Weeds Great countdown!! Good to see that I performed well :O AND now I have new Canadian artists to check out!!

I think Avril Deserved to be #1 IMOP. Nice female vocal showing. I sometimes wish the rock boards appreciated the female rockers a bit more.

I sometimes wish the rock boards appreciated the female rockers a bit more. Definitely agree. I was hoping Alannah Myles would have at least made the rankdown. She's often who I think of when I think of Canadian female rockers. Black Velvet is a damn classic.
