Big fan of En Vogue in the 90s, although I have not heard much of their recent stuff. They change the members far too often for my own personal liking! Will definitely take part as long as bat1990 is fine with me ranking some of the songs on just a few listens. |

Feel free to include your Top 5 album cuts when you send submissions! Big fan of En Vogue in the 90s, although I have not heard much of their recent stuff. They change the members far too often for my own personal liking! Will definitely take part as long as bat1990 is fine with me ranking some of the songs on just a few listens. I have no problem with that! It'll make the ranking more interesting and/or you'll come to love the Soul Flower album like a number of us have, despite its lack of commercial success. |

10 days until the deadline! Today or tomorrow, I hope to add YouTube links for the tunes not on streaming services (RIP Soul Flower :'( ) I have received ZERO submissions so far except my own, so please don't forget - this one is pretty short! I will try to do this one in the next few days. As much as I love R&B girl groups from the '90s, En Vogue is one that I've never given much attention to. Coincidently, I found a copy of Funky Divas for 25 cents the other day and I bought it. I'm looking forward to checking out the rest of their singles.

my sister is a fan of theirs and I'm seeing if she'd be interested in doing a list and I'll send it through my account. I'm not gonna participate myself as I just don't know their music enough. To get things started a little, the first Album Cut - b/c I received an incomplete list and am waiting for a response. Notes about album cuts: 1.) Only 3 respondents included them so the rankings are not representative, however I decided to still include them for fun. 2.) One person gave 8 songs instead of 5. This helped determine Album Cut #6 (and my decision to do 6 instead of 5), since I did an inverse point system for the Top 5 Album Cuts submitted. Album Cut #6: Hip Hop Lover Points: 4 Lead Vocals Terry, Maxine - verses Cindy - chorus Dawn - the repeated ad-lib The third track on En Vogue's most successful album - it features a rap verse from Wayne Jackson and samples the La La La melody of Aretha Franklin's "Spanish Harlem." (Note: this album also featured 2 Aretha covers from Sparkle - "Hooked On Your Love" and the single "Giving Him Something He Can Feel.") "Hip Hop Lover" is a laid back groove from the early 90s. It incorporates elements of hip hop and soul in the production, but with a sleeker, house-y vibe, unlike what Mary J. Blige and TLC were doing at the time.
