Admittedly, this is an odd one, but I really like the Abrams Brothers (who? yes, they were a thing and this video used to be on CMT) cover of "Viva La Vida" way better than Coldplay's version (which if you've never heard samples the Joe Satriani song "If I Could Fly" quite heavily)

Most of the songs in Wrecking Ball are covers, but this is the most impressive one IMO:

I wouldn't say I prefer one over the other, but "Suspicious Minds" is my favorite Elvis song, and Dwight Yoakam's cover of it is my favorite song of his.

Loved the original, but Rascal Flatts put more kick into 'Life Is A Highway'. While there are many covers, no one can hold the candle to Garth's take on 'Make You Feel My Love'... not even Adele. Keith Urban's 'Romeo's Tune' would have made a great single. Didn't realize it was a cover. Does that count?

Since Glen Campbell died, I've been making an effort to become more familiar with his discography. I've been listening to his 1971 album The Last Time I Saw Her. On it, he covers Lynn Anderson's "Rose Gaden," Kris Kristofferson's "Help Me Make It Through the Night", and Gordon Lightfoot's "If You Could Read My Mind" (and possibly others, but those are the only I recognize). While I don't know if I'd go as far as saying I prefer them over the originals, he does an excellent job on all of them, "If You Could Read My Mind" in particular. The title song from The Last Time I Saw Her is itself a Gordon Lightfoot cover. It was written by Gordon and included on Gordon’s 1968 album Did She Mention My Name? Glen’s version reached #21 on the country chart (also #61 on the Hot 100 and #12 AC). I like the Dolly Parton/Vince Gill duet version of I Will Always Love You better than Dolly’s solo version. Vince and Dolly are two of my favorite artists, and I think that song works well as a duet.

If I had to rank the three versions of I Will Always Love You they would be: 1. 1982 version 2. 1995 version-Parton and Gill 3. 1974 version I know the 1974 version showcases a lot of soul in Dolly Parton while the 1982 version is a lot more polished (after all, it was used in a movie).

Randy Travis "It's Just A Matter Of Time" I was never a fan of remakes unless I have never heard the original. I did not know this was a remake until it became a hit.
I like the Alison Krauss version of "When You Say Nothing At All", but it could never compare to Keith Whitley's.
One exception is "Flowers On The Wall". I think The Statler Brothers and Eric Heatherly both offer their own unique spin on this song. I do not prefer one over the other, but I think Heatherly's version is as good at the Statler's.
While I am A fan of Chris Stapleton, I personally do not like his version of "Tennessee Whiskey." Nobody can ever compare to the Possum. (Yes, I know David Allan Coe recorded it before George Jones, but George made it a hit). The closest anyone ever came to covering George Jones was Sawyer Brown's "The Race Is On". While they do a very good job, I still prefer George's version.

I agree with Reba's "Fancy" and "The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia".
I prefer Pam Tillis' "When You Walk In The Room" to Jackie DeShannon's original.
Emmylou Harris' version of "Wayfaring Stranger" is my favorite version.
I like Alison Krauss' "When You Say Nothing At All" at least as much as Keith Whitley's original.

Alison Krauss’ version of the song will never compare to Keith Whitley’s in my opinion. Keith I think would’ve been George Strait big had the tragedy that took place not happened. As far as covers go I have some favorites but I don’t think any compare to the originals. A few of mine are Stay by Florida Georgia Line (originally done by Black Stone Cherry), Goodbye Time by Blake Shelton (originally done by Conway Twitty), I Wouldn’t Be A Man by Josh Turner (originally done by Don Williams), Starting Over Again by Reba McEntire (originally done by Dolly Parton). One that comes to mind being better than the original is I Don’t Call Him Daddy - Doug Dupernaw (originally done by Kenny Rogers).

Basically every song Carrie ever covers.
Kacey’s “Somewhere Only We Know”.
Taylor’s “Better Man” that we heard live from the Bluebird doc (I know she wrote it, so not technically a cover, but was not the original recording artist).

It's by miles the best song from that album. Also fits her image too much.
