What's the best song of the year, in your opinion? HUMBLE. I guess Redbone and Slide don't exist then

I guess Redbone and Slide don't exist then That's MY opinion. I really like Slide but I prefer Calvin's EDM classics, especially Blame. I listened Redbone 2-3 times, but it's not the kind of song that I'd listen every single day for months (HUMBLE., Starboy, Closer, One Dance). I'm happy that Calvin's new songs are critically acclaimed in the USA, tho. I thought he'd flop since it's so different from his past albums.

Will Redbone make the top 10? Predictions early in the week had it at 12 or 13, but now people are saying 16 or 17. Are we overestimating it?

That's an interesting article from Billboard. I never look at the streaming charts, so that gender skew makes me really curious. I wanna see stats on streaming and demographics, that's something you don't see a lot of.

Look at the recent Hot R&B / Hip-Hop Songs chart and try to find a female voice.
I believe there are 4, and they are all in featured roles.
(This is the definitive National R&B chart.)
Just crazy.

Not that crazy because if you notice, there are 3 album sweeps going on: Khalid's American Teen, Drake's More Life, and Bryson Tiller's True to Self. Naturally on a twenty five position chart (as the main Hot R&B is), that's gonna knock a bunch of the usual variety away temporarily.

The R&B / Hip-Hop chart is 50 positions and the trend regarding lack of female artists has been building for years, particularly with steaming's ascendancy. Gone are the days of Aretha, Anita Baker or even Ashanti representing. Crazy.

Not much help for women in radio, either. Although, at least Halsey managed to hit the Top 15 there. Alessia Cara and Issues at least have made a decent show for them. It seems Rihanna or Taylor Swift would need a hit to fill the void.

The other thing that is fascinating about the R&B / Hip-Hop chart is that it is primarily a Rap / Hip-Hop chart now.
There really are no ballads or mid tempos to speak of. The groups, divas and veteran acts have very much been shunted off to the Adult R&B format, or no longer exist.

^Before 2012, streaming was relatively small. On-Demand Songs' first chart was dated March 24, 2012. I'm sorry I can't help you with any charts, but they would have to be mostly from AOL and Yahoo! Music, if that helps.

2017 is going to have a lot of Rap/Hiphop songs that make year end. And most of them this time suck. Probably the worst year for Urban IMO.

I guess that I'll have to be gay in Iran, because it looks like Magnolia and Look At Me will make it. Though XXX is utter s****, Playboi Carti has some good music. And his worst song will be (I guess) his only mainstream hit. That's just sad. Though I, unlike Scrohr, actually like Drowning and A Boogie.

"Magnolia" is pretty decent (mostly thanks to the beat because Playboi Carti's rapping here is kinda mediocre). And while I wouldn't say I necessarily like "Look at Me!", I do appreciate it for being somewhat experimental, at least and especially in comparison to most other songs on the charts.

Any early predictions on Wild Thoughts? I'm no simm but #4 is probably the safest prediction for WT. If its YouTube views are huge (10m views right now but we don't know what percentage of that is from the USA) #2 is possible.

Yeah, Billboard didn't have streaming charts then, but sometimes they would provide Yahoo and AOL charts at least in the print issues. I also remember it being the case that most #1-streamed songs would have a total of around 1 million streams combined from Yahoo and AOL, and as it mentions in the article, streaming would make up about 5% of a typical song's chart points.
