I'm far from a Barbra fan, I probably like 4 or 5 songs of hers. But because this is a Jim Steinman song, I do find myself listening to this a couple times a year. I like most of Jim Steinman's songs, they go on and on and on. This one came after his big hits w/ Bonnie Tyler "Total Eclipse of the Heart" and Air Supply's "Making Love Out of Nothing at All". Those songs were huge. This song barely missed the Top 40 if I recall.

One of my favorite singles by her. Peaked at #50 on the Hot 100 and #4 AC in 1984.

I'm far from a Streisand fan as well, but she does earn her keep on this one. Of course most anything Jim Steinman touches is golden. Definitely deserved to do better chartwise.

In general I'm just a mild fan of Streisand, but as I look back on her career it's amazing how long she stayed relevant and how she was able to adapt to trends. She of course started out in Broadway and got famous singing show tunes and standards. She had her AC/movie theme success. She then had her Laura Nyro period before transitioning into disco-influenced music like "No More Tears" and her album with Barry Gibb. Now I learn she also worked with Jim Steinman, and the song was pretty solid.

Barbra really shines on this!
80s Barbra is actually my favorite. I think that was her peak vocally and it was such a diverse decade for her... Guilty, The Broadway Album, Emotion, the Yentl soundtrack, her One Voice concert album (this one my mom would play all the time when I was a kid, alongside her Memories album).

I like a good bit of her 80's stuff, this and Somewhere are by far my favorites. This video - all 50 minutes of it - is unadulterated smoldering emotion. Steinman + Barbra = Gold
