What song do y'all think she should perform at the Grammys? Part of me wants a repeat of the "Rainbow" performance she gave on Late Night with Seth Meyers. Part of me wants a repeat of the "Space Cowboy" performance she did on Ellen. Part of me wants "Love Is a Wild Thing" or "Oh, What a World". Ugh. It's so hard to pick just one song to showcase how phenomenal this album is and how deserving she is of AOTY. She could do a medley, though I'm not sure how that would go over.
I've always imagined a vintage-space setting for a "Oh, What a World", with performance starting with the vocoder-voice on a dark stage and then revealing the band... something very "atmospheric"
But... a performance of "Rainbow" with a similar setting to what she did at Seth Meyers would be such a big statement... I love that performance so much

Praying for an "Oh, What a World" performance. It's a shame we haven't gotten any performances of it yet, so I'm hoping she's been saving it for the Grammy's

She’s been opening her live shows with a capella bits of The Beatles’ “Because,” and I could totally see her using that as an intro to an “Oh, What A World” performance at the GRAMMYs. I’m on the same page as The Brazilian Guy 🇧🇷 with this one — either OWAW or “Rainbow,” please & thank you.

She used the "Because" bits to open her concert at C2C in London and it was perfect... it sets the mood perfectly for this era/album. Such an inspired choice!

Billboard 50 Best Albums of 2018: Critics' Picks1. Ariana Grande, 'Sweetener' 2. Cardi B., 'Invasion of Privacy' 3. Kacey Musgraves, 'Golden Hour'Inspired by Sade and recorded in Sheryl Crow's horse stable-turned-studio, Kacey Musgraves' Golden Hour is the boundary-blurring, restlessly creative classic few country artists would be brave enough to deliver in a radio market that feeds on the familiar. But Musgraves followed her arrow into the stratosphere and beyond with her third album, stretching into spacey folk-country on "Slow Burn," tapping lush California harmonies for the title track and mixing banjos with a Vocoder on "Oh, What a World" (who knew Earl Scruggs and Daft Punk could party?). With a CMA album of the year win and now a Grammy nomination in the same category, the reception for Golden Hour has been as warm as the album's cozy production. And while no one went into 2018 thinking they needed a disco hoedown, "High Horse" is the Studio 54-by-way-of-barnyard banger that served as an ebullient jolt of joy in a year that sorely needed one. -- J. I just can't take any publication that puts Cardi B and Ariana Grande ahead of Kacey Musgraves seriously. Like is the artistry on either of their albums even somewhat comparable to Kacey's?

Cardi's album was critically acclaimed and is not that much below Kacey. Whether you like that genre or not, both of those albums (Cardi and Ariana) were received well by critics and someone does have the right to rank it however they wish.

'Golden Hour' is #02 on PITCHFORK's The 50 Best Albums of 2018
2. Kacey Musgraves | Golden Hour“Are we here just once or a billion times?” Kacey Musgraves asks on “Oh, What a World.” She wishes she knew but knows it also doesn’t matter: Who needs wholesale reincarnation when new love offers daily rebirths? Especially the kind that give renewed inquiry to questions that were once the preserve of stoners. Musgraves’ first two major albums concentrated on small-town existence, a lens that yielded slightly smaller returns by 2015’s Pageant Material. Golden Hour’s focus is existential: The newlywed singer-songwriter is learning to savor time, and to let it pass. Her inviting outlook is wrought through the record: softly strummed acoustic guitars that blur into sepia haze; boundless pedal steel as conduit for eternity, communing so effortlessly with touches of space-age funk that you wonder why nobody ever did it before. The latter provides one of Golden Hour’s most touching moments: On “Oh, What a World,” a robotic voice marvels at its surroundings and worries about how little time it has left—immortal, unfeeling machinery having a Pinocchio moment. Golden Hour is filled with these awed revelations, undercut with enough anxiety—and, more than once, snappy in-the-pocket disco—to keep Musgraves from floating off into a fever dream. Her wit isn’t diminished, but she’s less interested in scathing portraits or barbed payoffs than she once was. “And I think we’ve seen enough, seen enough/To know that you ain’t ever gonna come down,” she muses on one such dancefloor burner, “High Horse.” As ever, Musgraves sings about drinking, smoking, and acid, but her most prized high on this gorgeous album is rising above it all to see life in a different light.

I personally return to those albums more than Kacey's, but... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Meanwhile, Golden Hour made #25 on Slant Magazine's Top 25 albums!

Neither can I. No, the "artistry" really isn't. The music written and produced on both of those records could have been executed by a handful of other artists in their respective genres. Only Kacey could have executed Golden Hour the way she did.

My niece was VERY apprehensive to listen to this due to her own preconceived notions dealing with country music since she's more of a pop/alt fan. I sat her down and told her to play "Lonely Weekend", "Happy & Sad", and "Rainbow" and the sight of her face lighting up warmed my soul. I witnessed a stubborn teen bloom into a Kacey fan right before my eyes.

I think what's extraordinary about Kacey's Golden Hour is that it feels like an Album, in a way that very few albums are today - it's lyrically and musically cohesive, there is a message/theme throughout the record, but each song stands on their own and it's near perfection as goes and covers each theme, as I think it would be missing something if you remove any of the tracts. Also, track order is near perfect, and the message is very relevant in today's world.
I can't really comment on most of the other nominees, but have listened to at least a couple, and no matter how much I love "By The Way I Forgive You" and think it would deserve AOTY, for the reasons listed "Golden Hour" is/should be the legit winner of that award.

Her reaction to Rainbow = my reaction. Tears streaming down my face and just rendered speechless by how much it emotionally resonated within me.

"Rainbow" didn't fully click with me until that Seth Meyers performance, which is still one of my favorites of the whole damn year.

Just finished watching her video and I cried at watching her reactions. The way that nearly everyone connects with this album is just so unreal. As someone who stanned for her before "Merry Go 'Round" was even released as an official radio single, it brings me so much joy to see all the recognition and praise she's gotten with this era. I literally thought there was no possible way for anything to ever surpass Same Trailer, Different Park as my favorite album of time, yet here we are and I love Golden Hour more and more with each listen. This is such a body of ART and such a testament to why I love music so much. Kacey is a true artist and one of the most compelling lyricists, musicians, and vocalists to ever exist. I am so thankful for her gift and that she's used it to bless so many people.
What I would give to be able to go back and listen to this album for the first time again.

I agree that I didn’t think anything could surpass STDP. That album felt like such a lightning-in-a-bottle moment that nothing else she would have released could have surpassed it. Pageant Material was definitely really good but it just wasn’t on the same level. Golden Hour really proved a lot of people wrong. It just goes to show you that good talent should never be counted out.

"Rainbow" continues to strike such a deep, emotional chord with me. I can get through the whole song pretty much unscathed, but I will never be able to listen to her sing, "It'll all be alright" without feeling some jump in my heartbeat. It just gets me. Her delivery, the song, the line's context, etc. It's just so powerful.

#03 on SPIN MAGAZINE's Best Albums of 2018
3. Kacey Musgraves, Golden Hour
If “happy” or “sad” can’t begin to cover it, it’s time for Kacey Musgraves’ Golden Hour, a gently cosmic country-pop opus that sparkles like new jewelry. Luminous, bittersweet songs like “Slow Burn” and “Lonely Weekend” exemplify the copious crossover appeal of Musgraves’ sensitive songwriting, airy vocals, and willingness to bend country-music tropes without abandoning their emotional poignancy. With her well-recognized gift for marrying the prosaic and the novelistic, Musgraves understands that falling in love really can feel like “Butterflies,” but staying in it is another matter entirely. Golden Hour’s creation coincided with Musgraves’ own marriage (to musician Ruston Kelly), but the album’s moments of vulnerability are as notable as its well-earned vindications: see the tonally perfect dismissal of a disingenuous lover’s demand for “space” on “Space Cowboy,” or the disco-infused kiss-off of “High Horse.” Aided by thoughtful sequencing and easygoing production, Golden Hour is the perfect vector for Musgraves’s psychedelic-assisted revelations that life is beautiful and irreplaceable, even when it’s lonely and boring. For the love of God, don’t give the Grammy to Post Malone.

I agree, though now I am thinking to myself "How is she ever going to top Golden Hour?" I am very curious as to what her next album will sound like.

STDP will always hold such a special place in my heart and most of my favorite Kacey songs are still from that album, but as a body of art, Golden Hour is unreal.

This is so awesome! Too funny, and a perfect depiction of listening to Golden Hour for the first time. Ajay is my favorite YouTuber. I used to watch marathons of her reaction videos. She is SO extra but I love it. Apparently, Kacey does too, as she replied via Twitter and also offered her free tix to her show! Generous Queen! SN: When I started watching Ajay, it's how I imagined @antigonerising to look, LOL. Muskrats, have y'all ever heard Jenny Lewis (of Rilo Kiley) solo albums. I went back to this album this morning because I kept thinking, "What does Golden Hour remind me of?" and it hit me, especially Jenny's "Acid Tongue" album.

I went to Harry Styles just to see Kacey, and that is the moment it hit me. Seeing/hearing her do this live brought tears to my eyes, and it continues each and every time I hear it. I have the same connection to the line "It'll all be alright". When a friend or even my boyfriend text me and are feeling down, I say some encouraging things, followed by "It'll all be alright" as I hear Kacey sing it in my head while typing. LOL Oh and my favorite line by Ajay, "RAINBAHO!!!"
