"Celebration" is a cover of the Kool & The Gang song and was a new track added to her Greatest Hits compilation in 1992. A video was filmed in Rio de Janeiro Notable losses: Three people lose an entry in the top half, but none higher than 25. Host Opinion A fun cover, stronger than her other SAW/PWL era covers. I will never get why she considers her cover of that song to be any good. It's so limp and lifeless.

#59: Je ne sais pas pourquoiStatsPoints: 677 Average: 48.357 Std Dev: 11.965 Charts Australia #11 New Zealand #9 United Kingdom #2 Ireland #2 US Dance N/C Canada N/C History & Tidbits The fourth single (third in North America) from Kylie's debut album continued her streak of success, especially in Europe. In North America and Oceania the song was re-titled "I Still Love You (Je Ne Sais Pas Pourquoi)," presumably for lack of francophone familiarity. Despite the worldwide release, it did not chart in the US or Canada. The video follows the plot of the song, showing Kylie in the rain in Paris waiting for a lover. She is also shown colorized in an otherwise black and white scene dancing with a man in the street. Notable losses: Three in the top half very near the top/bottom dividing line. You're welcome ;) Host Opinion Pleasant, but it seems to go on for a bit too long. I enjoy the verses and pre-chorus more than the chorus. The video was cute too, showcasing Kylie's dancing. I'm a little surprised this is out already, but the four best singles from her debut are still in, which is excellent. From my research into my ARIA Aussie top 50 hits game, I found that this song actually charted twice here lol. The first time under that translated title ('I Still Love You') in 1988, and then in early 1989 under the original French title. IDK why, or whether it was different versions charting but there you go lol. EDIT: Looking again at the chart run, it actually switches from 'I Still Love You' to 'Je ne sais pas pourquoi' in between years? So it looks like it actually was just one chart run. Weird. Either way I still don't understand the change in credit.

Pharrell wrote this song quickly after Kylie admitted she almost cancelled their studio session. The video is an attempted creative piece about pedestrian life and how people walk past others all the time, having different kinds of life experiences each day. Host Opinion A nice, breeze electro-disco midtempo. It's a fun listen, but very middling when stacked against the rest of Kylie's songs. KMO has stronger tracks, IMO. It does not bode well when the strongest part of a single release is the Rhythm Of Love-throwback cover art. Even though this one was given a lift by the corrected rankings, it could not rise much higher. #57: FlowerStatsPoints: 657 Average: 46.929 Std Dev: 16.968 Charts Australia N/C New Zealand N/C United Kingdom #96 Ireland N/C US Dance N/C Canada N/C History & Tidbits "Flower" was originally submitted for the X sessions, but was cut from the final tracklisting. Kylie enjoyed the song enough to include it on her KylieX2008 tour and later included an orchestral studio version on The Abbey Road Sessions during the K25 celebrations. "Flower" served as the lead single from said collection (prb as the only previously unreleased song) and featured a simple black and white video directed by Kylie herself. She also refers to "Flower" as "the little song that could" because of how long it took to be officially released to the world. Notable losses: One rank in the top half, and it's a top 10! Host Opinion Pleasant but forgettable. I won't skip it when listening to The Abbey Road Sessions but I won't seek it out either. The video is a nice visual though. Great to see Celebration out lol. At one point I had it at a bit lower rank, but then I heard a couple of worse songs yup, it doesn't add to the original and pales in comparison. In terms of Je Ne Sais, this was one of the songs I found hard to rank. I had it much lower at some point, then I heard other songs from the SAW era, changed my mind and switched positions (when I first heard some of those songs they sound a bit too similar and then after few listens I appreciated the differences more. With this one, I remember listening to it for the first time watching one of her tour videos and I found it quite endearing and tender that it carved a spot in my nostalgic mind. I had to add some bonus points for that :)

#56: Keep On Pumpin' ItVisionmasters and Tony King f/ Kylie MinogueStatsPoints: 653 Average: 46.643 Std Dev: 15.829 Charts Australia N/C New Zealand N/C United Kingdom #49 Ireland N/C US Dance N/C Canada N/C History & Tidbits A remixed form of Kylie Minogue's "I Guess I Like It Like That" from Let's Get To It, this song was a club single in the UK. Kylie's song sampled [i.e. is a mashup of] "Get Ready For This" by 2 Unlimited, "Keep On Pumping It Up" by Freestyle Orchestra, and "I Like It Like That" by Salt-N-Pepa. This song followed the wave of Kylie suddenly becoming cool on the club scene, which set the stage for the rest of her career. This phase of her career was also marked by her Angel K persona on white label releases to help gain the club credibility - "Do You Dare?," "Closer," and the original version of "I Guess I Like It Like That" were issued in this way. Notable losses: A #70 and a #11 Host Opinion A fun club track. The stadium keyboards are anthemic, if cheesy, in their own right. It's just pure fun for those who like to get up and dance. That's all for today!
Tomorrow, we lose the first Parlophone (Light Years-Aphrodite) single at #55. Any guesses in the interim?

"Flower" from X2008 was incredible and I'd wanted to hear a studio version for so long that the Abbey Road recording ultimately disappointed me. Be careful what you wish for, I guess.

- Give Me Just A > Yay! Good to see it's now bottom 3, as this was one of my clear bottom songs from the beginning. Insipid, but the worst sin for me is her cringy "Brrrrrrrrr" in the last minute or so. I really hate that - If You Were > It started even lower in my rankdown, but then I appreciated a bit more her clear, heartfelt vocals, not often showcased in the first few years of her career. But yeah still too cheesy even for me :) - Especially > Speaking of cheesy, I know this is like a cheese plate too ;) but in this case nostalgia played a key role for me. I do remember hearing this song back in the 1980s and liking it. Now that I hear it, I think it's still smooth, with nice instrumentation and beat, and their voices complement each other nicely, plus it's one of those key duets of the 1980s that have a especial place in my heart :) - Tears on my > I like the song (good Grease memories!!) but Kylie doesn't pull this one off, it just falls flat and makes the song worse - It's no > first time I heard this song... I went back and forth between this one and Made in H in terms of worse SAW song. - The other > come on, people, you don't seem to like any campy song??!! This is fun and good, plus the whole pansexual vibe makes it even more interesting, on top of Nile's great guitar (and Jake's great ....) - I Was Gonna > it's okay, I kind of like the vibe and the chorus with the operatic voices but feel it could've been much much better. - Flower > I hadn't heard this song before this RD. It's quite a nice, emotional ballad that sort of surprised me. Nice lyrics too. Gave it a few extra points and moved it up my RD in the end. - Keep It > I think there are worse dance collabos in the RD, and this is sort of iconic club song, so a bit surprised at its low rank

Yeah, if we must lose a Parlophone track I'd rather it be 'Giving You Up'. 'Butterfly' is a monster and it must reach the top half at the very least.

Light Years is easily the album that has the biggest difference in where the tracks placed on my submission. I ended up putting two in the top 10, another in the top half, another in the bottom half, and the remaining one even lower.

Interestingly, no one correctly picked our first Parlophone-era loss.... #55: Better Than TodayStatsPoints: 645 Average: 46.071 Std Dev: 17.095 Charts Australia #55 New Zealand N/C United Kingdom #32 Ireland N/C US Dance #1 Canada N/C History & Tidbits The third single from Aphrodite was a commercial flop and also not a hit with Pulse either. It is a dance-pop midtempo about maintaining optimism and lifting one's spirits through dancing. It was originally recorded by Nerina Pallot and covered by Kylie on her For You, For Me tour of North America. She then recorded this studio version in 2010. Notable Losses: One Top 15 and four more in the top half. Host Opinion A stinker I usually skip on Aphrodite. Maybe if it were faster or sassier, I would like it more because it has the potential to be a drag queen strut anthem, but falls flat. Points to video for the Rocky Horror inspired Red Lips though. #54: Black and WhiteKylie Minogue f/ ShaggyStatsPoints: 643 Average: 45.929 Std Dev: 21.359 Charts Australia #100 [Kylie + Garibay EP] Scotland #72 History & Tidbits The lead "single" from her second EP with Garibay, this was a relaxed club song about yearning for lost love. Kylie also has a co-writing credit! A black and white video of a scantily-clad Kylie was filmed to promote the release (and she looked hot). The song was also the fifth highest standard deviation of the rankdown, which is what knocked it out so early. Notable Losses: Six in the top half, including a #11 Host Opinion I am in love with this song. It's so sublime and vulnerable that I can't get enough. The yearning for me mirrors the sentiment of songs like "Better The Devil You Know" and "Everything Is Beautiful." The ending chaos after Shaggy's rap is what tanks the song for me a bit, but otherwise I enjoy it immensely. Not better than today, yesterday or tomorrow. What is that awful sound at the beginning and between verses??
Usually you can rely on a good remix to save a mediocre Kylie song but the only one I remember is the Bellatrax one which wasn't too bad.

While neither this nor "Sometime Samurai" made the cut for IP, both ended up being eventually released by Tei. "GBI" also received a Stéphane Sednaoui video treatment of Kylie wandering through New York City as a geisha. Notable losses: Our third entry with a top 10 ranking! Also four more in the top half. Host Opinion This is one of the most unique and clever songs I've ever heard. I can't think of any other song where the speaker is literally a typeface.
