Without You: 6 weeks at #3 in 1994?? This should have snatched a #1 hit, what songs blocked this from #1? The first week, it was Ace of Base's The Sign (#1) and Celine's Power of Love (#2; had already peaked at #1 and was on its way down). Weeks 2-6, The Sign and R. Kelly's Bump 'n Grind took turns in the #1 and #2 spots. Those two songs even held on a couple of more weeks after Without You finally started falling to keep Prince's The Most Beautiful Girl at a #3 peak, too. It didn't feel like a surprise at the time for Without You/Never Forget You to not make it to #1; it was the third single from an album that went on to sell 10 million so she was bound to miss the top eventually. I was more surprised at the fourth single (AYNAF) missing the top 10. I guess if you count WY and NFY separately instead of as a double-A side AYNAF was fifth, but still, Mariah was on such a hot streak at the time. AYNAF was her first commercial single to peak outside the top 10.

Yes at my top 2 being the top 2 for the #1s rankdown! Pleasantly surprised that "It's Like That" made the top 10 of the non-#1s rankdown! I remember playing this in my dad's car and he asked me, "Is THIS what you listen to? You should probably listen to more stuff like... The Beatles you know?" This is the reason why I take control of the music when I'm in my dad's car (combined with the fact that I rarely ride my dad's car these days since I'm away from home now). I could not handle the disrespect towards "It's Like That". And Leo ✔ what in the world is "Vision of Love" doing in your bottom 3 now that you've accused me for my rank for "My All"?

There have been several ties (in points) throughout the non-#1s rankdown - six, in fact - though I didn't make note of them as I was revealing. None of them have occurred at a notable enough spot for me to think that it was worth pointing out, except maybe the tie between #18-19. But now we reach our seventh and final tie between #3 and #2. That seems like a big enough deal to bring attention to it - it's very rare to have that happen so close to the very top of a rankdown. I decided to stay consistent and break it using the median score, as I have all the others, but I was definitely tempted to leave it as is. If any two songs deserve to share the second-highest rank possible it's these two! The #1 song beat them both out by 50 points. That one's final placement was never really in question IMO (even though a couple of all TRIED IT to capacity)...and I normally kind of hate 'predictable' conclusions but I'm not going to even pretend I'm dissatisfied in the least with the conclusion on this one lol. And your final three non-#1s are...

The top 2 in Mariah Carey number 1s is PERFECT! That would have been my top 2 as well!

Can't Let Go was a great ballad, and it could have been her 6th consecutive #1, had it not been cock-blocked though.
WBT is still the best song of the 2000s.
Fantasy is just as much a signature Mariah song as Hero, OSD, AIWFCIY, and WBT.

Yayyyyyyyyy we're finally finished! So sorry it took me a whole month to get this all done, but I hope you all enjoyed following along! I'll post closeness rankings some time tomorrow. As for me, I have definitely learned my lesson and I will never take on three rankdowns at once like that ever again lmao. But I do have a few other rankdowns planned so keep an eye out for those! Obligatory shameless plugs here: 1) my Halloween rankdown is currently open until October 15! If you love Halloween or just kitsch in general you should definitely do it! 2) If you are an r&b fan at all you must check out the New Jack Swing rankdown I have planned, it's going to be fantastic! I'll open that one up on October 1st; it will be a 50-song list. Although these are all r&b songs, all but two of them were top 10 Hot 100 hits, so the majority of the list should be familiar to anyone who was a fan of music in the late '80s to early '90s. That said, my tag list for that rankdown is going to be very tailored because I don't want to bug people that I know aren't likely to do it, so if you haven't received a tag by then you'll need to keep an eye out for it. 3) And finally I have a very fun (and easy/quick) idea in mind for Christmas but I'll wait until November to go into more detail about that. Again thank you all so much for participating or watching!

I havent added this Rankdown to the spreadsheet of users participated yet. Guess I should do it as 3 seperate Rankdowns and award a user 3 points if they participated in all? alright then.

Do you award points for album rankdowns too? I just threw that one out there as a sort of fun thing for the hardcore lambs, but I was pleasantly surprised to get as many submissions as I did for it. Anyway, yeah, I would treat each rankdown separately since they all had a somewhat different list from each other.

Can't Let Go breakdown The Roof We Belong Together Fantasy
That finish alone is why Mariah Carey wipes the floor with them hoes. You can find a Jenny on any block but Mariah Carey is once in a lifetime kinda artist. A treasure! 👑

Thanks for the fun @antigonerising!!
Ranking these songs was so hard that even as the results came out, I had to check the list beneath each song to see where I had placed it - and even questioned my own ranking for a few songs.

In the end, I was pleased with the top 5 rankings. It was a no-brainer "Fantasy" would win the #1s though. CLG fought a hard battle but I feel it deserved #1 for the non-#1s. Overall, great ranking and thanks cynthia.

Deserving winners! LOVED this rankdown @antigonerising thank you so much for doing Queen justice!
Honestly, this was one of the toughest rankdowns for me to submit because of how iconic her discography is. On any given day I could reshuffle a ton of the non #1s. The #1s I have a pretty solid love for the way I ranked them but even those could change.

Overall, great ranking and thanks cynthia. Can't Let Go made it to #4 on my personal ranking. However, had it been specifically for the MTV Unplugged rendition it would have gone straight in at #1

Top 10 songs remaining10: Caviar , Active Aggressive 8: #LisaRinna 7: Juanca , @pma2015 , weaver 6: andrewantonio , @antigonerising , Ky , @phillippe , Daniel Collins , Leigh 5: Glove Slap , Chelsea Press 2 4: kmbgs , Wavey✨️ 3: Albie , .indulgecountry Wot. I could have sworn I lost a few top 10s in the last couple pages, including a few posts above (Melt Away is #10). I even thought my #1 was gone already. #oop. Anyway, some of these tastes are just...idk, man. If It's Over is definitely one of my all-time favorite Mariah songs and probably will be forever. Edit: N/M...I thought I had H.A.T.E.U. as my number 1 as it is actually. Close My Eyes WAS my number one though, for quite a while. Sad to see it go and so low, when I thought it was one of her most beloved songs. I know it's one of her personal favorites, which is all that matters! The lyrics are probably the most relatable (yes, even more than Bye Bye for me, LOL) on a personal level. And yet, it is in the bottom rankings for some heathens, I see. Well, I don't really use gifs but if I did, I would pull out the Shame one from GoT. Shake It Off above Close My Eyes is literally an abomination. Oh..I forgot... Wavey✨️ doesn't really like ballads or introspective songs, which explains the ranking of basic bops above her best material! I'm 50/50 on ballads as is..this was the right side of the 50 lmao. Well, looks like I didn't really tell lies, eh? Edit x2: Looks like I did have my two faves at #1. Nice! I still maintain that I didn't have all 10 of my top 10 going into this post though. This is what happens when I wait days and then binge on rankdown results! VoL IS her best #1 and that's really that. Thanks Cynthia for this!!

@antigonerising, that was so much fun. I really loved the split of the number 1s from the non-number 1s. I loved loved loved discovering some of the Charmbracelet songs (Subtle Invitation), and should be ashamed of myself for never giving Emotions the time it deserved. I also can't believe that the top 2 of this rankdown were my top 2. I knew that they were fan favorites, but still thought they'd be fan favorites that were out around #20.

This is the reason why Anytime UNAFriend is still there with both versions merci Different people Different preferences The last two minutes give me headache in the original. The a capella version started to give me migraine I know there are people who do like this gospel-style of singing, but that's not my thing at all. I can't be emotionally connected with someone that to me sounds possessed and trying to exorcise a demon... just like I don't appreciate the way M sings the Emotions chorus. To me both are cases of "screamariah" that I'm not a big fan. I much prefer her in Vision of love, Forever, We belong together, Love takes time, where she can show strength, emotion, power, without resorting to constant singing at the top of her lungs. I actually prefer the remix version to the original, though, as her voice is balanced with the strength of the beat.

Pleased with "Forever" placement.
"It's Like That" definitely didn't deserve top 10 over "Underneath the Stars." Who woulda thunk "Make It Happen" was so loved? Slay!
Great top 3 for the non-singles and the #1s. The winners were expected, but "Breakdown" > "The Roof". Y'all can fight me.

Thanks Cynthia for an amazing rankdown!! The lyrics extracts, the images, and of course the comments were all A+ Also, I learned a big lot about Mariah's music! I'm glad I managed to do the non-single RD as I have more songs to add to my playlist from Mariah In terms of the final results: super YAY!! at Fantasy being #1. I was a bit nervous after its unfair low placement in the YE RD, but I'm glad it was #1 here. That's a song I loved from the first moment I heard and made me a super fan of hers, especially because soon afterwards I listened to another gorgeous song like ABMB, my #2 favorite from Mariah. Good to see it at #3 :) In terms of the singles, my clear winner from day 1 was Make It Happen. This was her first #1 in my personal chart. I love how she sounds, the production, the beat, the lyrics, everything. Sorry for my ranking Vanishing so low. This was the first time I heard it, and that genre is not my thing I dig VoL but not this one. I hope I could redeem some favor from those loving AYNAF after seeing that the remix was in my top 10 :)) Wish Forever had managed to be top 10. Another timeless classic that is among my favorite ballads from MC. IN terms of WY, yes it may be too AC, but I believe this is the best cover she's made, where she managed a strong but not overpowering rendition of a classic song (plus at that time this became her biggest hit back home and I believe in Latin America... and people started to talk about Maria Carei (yup, pronounced like hurricane Maria and Ca-ray which is an actual word in Spanish lol)
