cant forget that ariana's donut incident made headlines also In summer 2015. She had one top ten in 2013 and four in 2014, on top of two #1 albums. She was huge way before then (if that is what you’re implying). It’s funny though how at the time people were insulted by her comments and it was controversial, but two years later, with the shakeup in politics, I see many tweets saying Ariana was ahead of the time and stuff similar to that Ahead of the time in licking a donut, or with something else?

Loving this song. So much better than the annoying Havana.

It’s been quite amazing to watch Camilla’s journey. It is always about finding that one smash song. And it’s so hard to do. Took Beyoncé a few tries to get to crazy in love, Nicole Sherzinger never got there. The one direction boys all got hits but nothing like Havana. It all worked out for Camila. Well done. And her activism is inspiring also.

^ Bey actually had two singles before 'Crazy In Love'; neither of them charted on the Hot 100.

Wow, great update!
Ps: They were promotional/soundtrack songs though, right? That was the one made to launch her debut album and it was a smash!

They were, yes; one of them was for The Fighting Temptations, so it's easy to overlook, but the one that came first was 'Work It Out', which in theory should have been a smash since Bey already had the star power - but I don't recall soundtrack singles being nearly as successful until the past few years.

I'm not sure if during the era "Work It Out" came out soundtrack singles did well but in general songs from movies have usually done extremely well. "I Will Always Love You", Independent Women" "My Heart Will Go On", "Last Dance" "Eye Of The Tiger", and a lot of the Bee Gee's top hits are all from movie soundtracks. Sorry that most of these are older but I am not huge on movies so I can't think of many right now. Maybe I misunderstood what you were saying.

Maybe it's more soundtrack singles from the 2000's, but from my experience I feel like there was a time where soundtrack singles didn't perform well because they were so closely tied to the movies they came from, giving them a short shelf-life (and not a lot of time to gain any real traction).
Nowadays it seems like it doesn't matter if a single is from a soundtrack, it's more likely to live or die on its own merits rather than being associated with a film.

Yeah, I don't remember either being promoted as THE DEBUT OF SOLO BEYONCE!!!!! It was like.... oh look at these cute bops from these movie soundtracks from flicks she's in. Go see her movie! Crazy In Love was treated as the official launch of her solso career.

Holy shit. I know I'm late to the game but I had no idea Camila was the one who sang this song. Albeit, I hardly listen to radio, so I had only heard this a couple of times. I listened to it in my friends car, so .I had to ask Siri what song it was to add it to my Spotify. Pleasantly surprised this is Camila.

"Work It Out" definitely had SOME push behind it. It was included on international editions of Dangerously In Love (the album), it was produced by the Neptunes, attached to a pretty big franchise where Bey had her first big starring role and a music video. It def flopped in the US, but it went to 7 in the UK. It charted pretty well in some countries.
Camila actually has a great track record as a solo artist considering all the hate she received initially. She'll do well. She's super marketable and is well connected in the industry.

I barely knew this was her the first time I heard it. Probably a good choice to autotune her scraping and screeching down to nothing, since I would've turned channels right away if I'd recognized It.

I'm surprised that no one mentioned the misfire with "Crying in the Club" in the discussion above.

Song starting to peak so sad Its very disheartening. I thought this would be at least another top 10 on pop radio for her. :( Looks like its getting Crying in the Club'd...

I'm trusting and believing that those posters on the last page were just trolling. --
She's going to be performing on the Graham Norton show.
