Um, some people enjoy that and not every line in the song needs to be "filled" with "real words." That's the hook of the song and I can't even imagine it being half as catchy if they'd just stopped after the word "umbrella" and not added the "ella ella eh eh" part after it. Like that's the best & catchiest part of the song, lmao.  i guess that's the difference between art & commerce o wow i am so enlightened.  |

Filling the main hook with "real words" has absolutely nothing to do with how creative or expressive a song is. A staccato-leaning/more rhythmic hook is every bit as valuable and can be a symbol of craftsmanship and songwriting as a more traditional approach. If anything, turning your nose up at a more nontraditional method (which Umbrella is, especially for that time) is a symbol of just being on a high horse guzzling kool aid, especially when you try to back it up with being for "art" over "commerce". All you're doing is coming across like an elitist understanding nothing and trying to make their own opinion come across as more valuable over that of others'. |
