What do you expect me to say, I Love Rock N Roll? I do love that song, but my God, I love the electric guitar and the Latin vibes to this song. It's the perfect summer jam session, and yet it was a big hit in the Fall and Winter seasons than Summer. Of all time though? I'm twice your age and I really don't know much about rock music, so I wouldn't imagine you really know your rock music either.

Honorable Mention
Kanye West - Heartless Peak - 2 Weeks in Top 10 - 16 Weeks Charting - 30
This was also very close making the list. It just needed maybe 1 more week on chart or that 1 week it was at number 2 to have been number 1 because Crack A Bottle stole that 1 from Heartless. What do you guys think about this song?

Well I am young, and I did grow up listening to more of the 2000s pop-rock, pop and throw in some rap you've got my mid-to-late 2000s childhood music right there. But when discovering older music from the 90s and beyond, I guess you could say I grew into a fascination with certain songs outside of my childhood. As much as classics like I Love Rock N Roll, Livin' On A Prayer, Back In Black, Smoke On Water, Baba O'Riley, Born To Be Wild, or anything by the Beatles are, I love the type of rock that's less reliant on the lead singers voice being overly loud, with production that seems to hard for what it really is. But if a Latin pop-rock song can make Rob Thomas of Matchbox Twenty's voice sound amazing in comparison and the most amazing electric guitar solo I've ever heard, I am completely sold. And it may be my favorite song by genre, it's not my favorite song of all time.

I like every song on here, and 76 of these are 10/10s for me. I've decided on my 100 and it's only a 8/10. So I do like Smooth.

Heartless is a definition, textbook example of a Kanye West song. Auto-tuned voice, good electronica/pop production, and not a single line that I can think of is in a rap. Also, that chorus and music video.

I have no argument with you saying 'Smooth' is your favourite rock song of all time (at this stage of your life) but I sincerely wouldn't trust the assessment of a 13-year-old when it comes to asserting what (they believe) is the best rock song of all time. Not when there is several decades worth of rock bands, rock sub-genres and hits to consider, and a 13-year-old is never going to have the full depth of experience and expertise to make such a definitive call. #TheLibraryHasNowClosed

Oh god, "Smooth" versus "Ignition." Sophie's Choice. Pick the one that isn't from a rapist. Eh. R. Kelly is a terrible person, sure, but I believe we should all be able to separate the artist from the song. That is to say, unless the song directly reflects the artist, it should be viewed as if it were by anyone. If "Ignition" were about urinating on underage girls and starting cults, I would think it would be incredibly difficult to separate artist from song, but that's not really this case here. "Ignition" and "Run It!" rank high on my list even though their respective artists are terrible people. Likewise, artists whose personalities I love have songs I don't care for. But in no way is this me saying I put "Ignition" higher than "Smooth." :kii:

Not when there is several decades worth of rock bands, rock sub-genres and hits to consider, and a 13-year-old is never going to have the full depth of experience and expertise to make such a definitive call. #TheLibraryHasNowClosed First, I'm 18, not 13, you should know considering my user name. Secondly, I have listened to rock bands and the sub-genres from early decades and even this decade. The problem I find is the energy is there, the vocals are fine and the production is good, but it's not as earwormy or memorable as some of the classic big names like I Love Rock N Roll and anything that The Beatles or Elvis touched in their careers. But when an unknown Latin guitarist who previously had not much success in the 70s come around near the run of the millennium with the catchy, Latin influenced rock, complete with an electric guitar and Rob Thomas' best performance to date, I am sold. I have not met a single person who hates this song, and when that day comes, it'll be the saddest of days.

Could've sworn you were one of the 13-year-olds, sorry. It seemed like a lot of the newest guys we've had (who weren't dupes) here were all quite young, so I'm sorry for lumping you in with those. EDIT: And re: Santana being unknown, lmao looking at his/his band's albums history he was in no way unknown. Hit albums spanning all the way back to the 70's? Sure he may not have been much of a singles artist, but his music looks to have been quite popular for a loooooong time.

You better be prepared for a sad day, then, when it gets revealed here because I'm positive every song on this list will have someone rank it low due to not caring for it.

The fact that I did state that I put "Ignition" high on my list shows that (though I do indeed prefer "Smooth" to "Ignition" regardless of how terrible R. Kelly is as a person). I'm just saying that if you had to pick between those two songs... Also, one could argue that his songs do reflect how he's a terrible person, at least indirectly. Like, one could interpret a lot of his songs as him singing about underage girls. That's not really made explicit in his music which is why it's excusable if you do like his music, but if someone interprets it that way and hates his music because of that, then that's perfectly understandable.

Yea, the Highest Lowest rank right now is 69. 95 songs right now have a bottom 20 ranking. Every song has a top 10 or bottom 10 ranking except for 1.

Santana is on no way unknown in the rock world. It should tell you something when they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame before Smooth even came out.

These were so difficult to rank. I love most of these songs. They bring back memories one way or another. I felt really bad ranking some songs I love in the bottom half, but it was just too competitive...

Oh sure, my post wasn't directed towards you specifically, just in general. Yeah, I feel like if you do connect them like that indirectly, then it's understandable if you dislike them for that reason, I just feel like it takes a tad bit of reaching to do that. Otherwise, hate, dislike, like, love, feel indifferent towards whatever the hell you want! As long as you actually gave the material a chance, that is.

I hope being terrible people doesn't bog down both "Ignition (Remix)" and "Forever" because those are two great songs.

Like the intro for his music video to "Cookie." R. Kelly is a prime example of why I'm glad to be able to completely separate the work from the individual (like with Sean Penn, Woody Allen, Phil Spector, and so on). I will not let anything interrupt my amazement at that this actually exists.
