Despascito 10th week over 70k points and number one in every category
it has 6 more weeks to match the record. #1 in every category usually comes in the middle of a run. SOY peaked too early, that's why it only had 11 consecutive weeks. Despacito is maintaining levels extremely close to its peak, 10 weeks in. Right now, despacito has the most points since hello. If despacito were to have just become a number one hit, would you not bet on it having seven weeks?
sorry maria & boys 2 men. ur time is UP

I don't think it will break the record, at best it may end up either 1 week short, or tie the record. I feel like the song may have already peaked in airplay and streaming, but it's hard to tell with sales. On YouTube though, it's racking up 20 million views a day, and it may be a contender to break See You Again's very short lived run as the most viewed video by the end of the year.

I hope it is at #1 for 15 weeks That way *Mariah will keep her record but also Despacito will not be known as a member of the 14-week-club
On a serious note though, no - it is already falling on Radio and will be going down in sales and streaming as well soon

It "may" be a "contender?" It's definitely a contender, but more than that it's like 99.9% likely to pass "See You Again" in the very near future.

No... I don't think so. It's over a month. Everything can happen;
It looks like it peaked on Airplay and Streaming. Will it have more weeks than SOY? That's likely. But will it beat OSD? I don't think so.

But your right, See You Again may have the record for now, but by the end of the year it most definitely will be passed by Despacito. Another thing we should be keeping an eye on is Shape Of You, which is also racking up an average of 10 million views as well.

You realise that the video has got 2.5 BILLION views ww already and is not slowing down? It's going to end up one of the biggest chart hits of all time if not the biggest.
None of the current chart hits is going to prevent it from breaking Mimi's record, the threat must come elsewhere

Depends if big names like Taylor Swift release anything within 6 weeks. I can definitely see a new Taylor song dethroning it. Plus you also have the possibility of a song coming out of nowhere to grab #1. A lot of people thought Closer had a good chance to break the record, but then Black Beatles happened.

Ok what if Despacito really peaked on all formats... it still has a ridiculous lead over the main competitors, almost 2-1 lead overall. See You Again had a 1.6-1 lead over Uptown Funk in its first week. This has about the same lead in its 10th week!! This is going to have a slow fall and only a bigger monster will beat this before 16 weeks Just to compare, Closer had about 47k points, Starboy 40k points, and Black Beatles 20k points during last week of Closer at #1

The reality is if all of the current songs are the ones still around in 6 weeks then, yes, "Despacito" can nab the record. But as has been pointed out, we can't know what may come out and catch on in the next month or two. No one saw songs like "Black Beatles," "Closer," or even "Despacito" coming. To that end it's hard to make a true prediction about the record.

I'd say it has a pretty huge chance of breaking the record. Something absolutely massive would have to happen in the next several weeks for Despacito not to get 17 weeks at #1. Anything could happen though.

I'm wonderIng if a new Eminem single could debut at 1. He has massive digital sales and streaming. Plus if he teams up with Rihanna (again lol) or someone big, it could be truly massive.

“Hello”, “We Found Love”, once again as chart-watchers in monitoring the path of another song on the road to 17 weeks at #1.
“Yeah!”, what will the road to 17 look like? Is this the “Closer”? Will it just be “One Dance” lasting 8 more weeks, or a second dance such as “Macarena” to take its pace? Will fans of this song encounter a “Dilemma” if it stops short of 17 weeks? What if it’s a tie? Bieber fans can look at Mariah fans and chant “We Belong Together”
It is “Foolish” to think this song will stay at #1 forever but some people think “Despactio” is “Irreplaceable”. Others think this is not “The End of the Road”, there will indeed be “One Sweet Day” when Mariah will be saying "I'll Be Missing You" to the record.
Will the road be “Smooth” or will we encounter “Blurred Lines” along the way?
Will this song go “Boom Boom Pow” to the record? “I Gotta Feeling” it might. People will be “Happy”, or they will hit a “Low”. Maybe they will get “Physical” and will “Uptown Funk” you up if you try to get in their way.
As we eventually say goodbye to another run at 17, “I Swear” we will “See You Again”. The next "Gold Digger" song could be just a few weeks away

five votes, hmm. Slowly people are coming to my side. My argument is that even though it has peaked, it is so far ahead that it doesn't matter. UF did not have this many points in its 10th week (as of monday)

Tbh, WT just needs to loose 3-4k a week and another song gain as much. I think that TS may release a single after Despacito will drop under 60k, as her minimum will be around 65k If she'll have a strong feature, if we're honest.

UF did not have this many points in its 10th week (as of monday) I think at this point most people recognize "D" is way ahead and not falling anytime soon. People are just leaving room for the next Despacito, Black Beatles, etc to come out of nowhere (or for a major artist to release a drop a massive lead single).

Also, what is the deal with Mariah Carey being called "Maria" in the poll options?

I just thought of something: Eminem ft Taylor and a Taylor ft Eminem. Breath of fresh air from Rihanna and good segues into their new albums, coming soon
