6. Sorry: it was thanks to this RD and my listening to SNS multiple times that I ended liking this song and not considering it meh anymore. I'd probably rank it a bit higher now
5. Neon: I do like it, and I felt this was a good style switch for her when it was released as a single. Still, I prefer other songs from her catalog
4. Skyscraper: this is the only song where I accept and appreciate her screams, as they seem purposeful to convey extra punch to personal lyrics. I do believe she put her heart out and channeled her emotions into her singing. Powerful and important song for her.
3. Cool: I've always loved this! The 80s vibe, the dance pop rock combo works, and I like how she sounds cute sexy in the verses and then adds attitude in the chorus and adds her doses of well positioned strong vocals in the end. Great song
2. Give: her breakthrough hit where she sounds honest. Love the little break in her voice around the third minute. Pure pop as well and she sounds crisp and clear.
1. Heart: meh for this winner
I mean, it's good enough for a top 10, but this can also become one of her most annoying screamfests to me. The oh-oh-oh-OOOHHHH-oh-ohh in the chorus: that middle OOOHHHH is ok to hear once in awhile but NOT THAT OFTEN. If you add that the screaming banshee sound at 2:40 and the ad-libs of the last minute, I just have to mute it
I know she's trying to put the rocker side of her, but girl you don't need to scream that much and go over your pleasant zone to make your point. The song structure and melody and the music are solid, and I was about to rank it at #4 instead of RDC, but after listening to it four times for this RD my ears were too upset and had to penalize it
Anyway. Interesting results!
