BlueShades874 I don't think we've ever interacted with each other but shall we be friends now since our tastes were the closest between all of the pairings of the participants? And also bboat11

Great Top 2! And Sara Evans having two songs in the Top 5 is lovely to see. Would've obviously preferred a win for "Suds in the Bucket," but "Whiskey Lullaby" is an incredible song, too. I love how Kanenrá:ke and I are such a dark green in closeness. Definitely far and away the closest alignment of my tastes, but I'm not exactly surprised about this. I'm glad he was here to help me balance things out with me at the low end for all the Kenny Chesney tunes. :kii: Glad that LBTrocks helped tank that treacly mess of an Alan Jackson tune from making it any higher than it already did. I can't stand anything about it, lol. When I hear the opening chords for that, I go scrambling for the radio dial in an instant. The production, melody, lyrics, vocals... it's all so dreary and puts me off. Kenny Chesney's songs are mostly awful because I just can't stand his voice and there's only been like 3 or 4 singles in his career I've been able to tolerate it, but none of them were included in this RD. "There Goes My Life" is something I might like if it were by another artist, though I don't think I'd fancy the other three that much more even if they had a different vocalist.

I'm actually pretty bummed this was revealed tonight since I worked lol.
I expected "Whiskey Lullaby" to win and I also expected "Suds In The Bucket" to place in the top 3, so no real surprises here.
Also, I'll probably have enough time to finally do the 2006 rankdown over the holidays. I'll probably start the thread in November. :)

You are going to tank this song in CMA rankdown as well aren't you? Just take into consideration that this song has a perfect ballad triangle, all the awesome country instrumentation and one of the most beautiful videos ever recorded.

I'm happy with the winner...Whiskey Lullaby just missed my top ten. I like it quite a bit, but I seem to recall not being to escape it back in 2004 because I felt like the video was always on and every time I turned the radio on it was on. I hadn't listened to the song in years until recently and I remembered what a good song it was...plus Alison's voice is heavenly.
I'm also very happy to see both Sara Evans songs in the top five (even though I ranked Suds a little lower than I probably should have). A quick little back story on how Sara Evans became a favorite of mine. I grew up on country but didn't really follow it much at all between 1998 and 2002. I knew of her music and was mostly only familiar with Born to Fly and I Could Not Ask For More. When Perfect came out I was instantly obsessed with the song. At the time Faith Hill was the only artist I was really obsessed with and I found myself listening to Perfect more than I had listened to any other song. I went out and bought her Restless CD (This is before I really even started buying CDs...I think I only had three or four at the time) and was blown away at how good it was. A couple weeks later I went out and bought Born to Fly (instantly fell in love with that CD as well) and I've been a huge fan of her ever since. It's funny though, because I remember when Suds was first released, I remember that being one of my least favorite songs on the CD and thinking for sure that it was a huge mistake and was going to flop. Obviously I was way off course on that one since it is now one of her biggest hits, and the song itself grew on me big time and I soon grew to love it as well.

Lol this top 10 reveal was so crazy, I didn't even have time to comment on the songs between all the random banter! So here's a song-by-song:
10. "There Goes My Life" - No objections to this being in the top 10. This is one of Kenny's best songs, for sure. Everything about it is so heartfelt, but especially the lyrics. I wish Kenny would release more stuff like this and less stuff like "When The Sun Goes Down".
9. "How Far" - I am just so thrilled this song even made the top 10!!! My #1!!!! I had no idea what to expect from this one, because I knew it would be polarizing. Overall though this is a perfect song to me. The steel-guitar driven instrumentation is SO beautiful, and the vocal arrangement is fantastic. Not to mention the vocals themselves, which pretty much goes without saying. This is just such an underrated song imo, so I am glad it was able to make the top 10 here. It's a shame it wasn't able to make it on the actual charts, becoming one of her many songs to barely miss the top 10.
8. "Me and Emily" - Lol good song, but it WAY overstayed. It shouldn't have been in the top 10. It is definitely good, but a top 10 in such a strong year should be composed of truly ICONIC songs. This one is definitely forgotten compared to the rest of these hits, and the rest of these artists.
7. "Remember When" - I love Alan Jackson, and I love this song. I'm not really surprised to see it in the top 10, although if I had a choice I would have swapped positions between this one and "I Hate Everything", as the George song was less overplayed. Still, glad this one made it! The vocal and instrumentation are pristine, and I love listening to it every once in awhile.
6. "Long Black Train" - One of the most classic breakthrough hits of the 2000s! I actually find this one a little overrated compared to Josh's other stuff, and I rarely go out of my way to listen to it. Still, there is no denying its impact, and it definitely belongs in this top 10!
OMG I can't believe Tracy Lawrence made the top 5 in a mid-00s rankdown!!! Wtf is this magic!?
5. "Paint Me a Birmingham" - Such a classic yet underrated song! I wish that Tracy was better remembered as an artist, because so many of his hits are incredible. I admittedly tend to forget this one exists because his career hit such a standstill at the turn of the century, but I am SO glad to see this get recognized here!
4. "Perfect" - As a major Sara Evans fan, I am so thrilled this managed to make the top 5, but I am not disappointed to see "Perfect" stall here. Out of all Sara's hits, this is one that I seek out pretty seldomly, even though I DO enjoy it. I would probably rank it an A-, which is low enough to put it behind a lot of her other songs for me... And it is nowhere near the level of "Suds" and "Live Like You Were Dying"!
3. "Live Like You Were Dying" - Classic and iconic song. I am SO thrilled this made it this high, because I thought the haters might take it down similar to "I Go Back". This one definitely deserved a spot in the top 3, even if a few people don't like it!
2. "Suds In the Bucket" - NOOOOO this was my pick for #1 once the top 10 started playing out! This song is so amazing. The melody is amazing, the lyrics tell a unique story, and Sara sounds SO good singing these more traditional-leaning uptempos.
1. "Whiskey Lullaby" - Beautiful song, and I love it very much...but... I kinda thought this might be one that got tanked in the 20s due to some people finding it boring. I literally never even considered that it might be a #1 contender... Oh well, it is still a very good song, I just might not appreciate it quite as much as the majority here.

Also at the confusion about what suds are on the previous page... "Suds" are the bubbles that go along with soap. So if she left a bucket of suds in the yard and the clothes hanging out on the line, she was out in the yard doing laundry by hand when the man showed up and they ran off together. Is that a less common term than I thought it was?

So glad this did better than "I Wanna Do It All". This was one of the very first female country songs I fell in love with and really only one of two Terri songs I loveDamn, this sentence started out so well, and then you had to go and ruin it... In other news, I outranked Kanenrá:ke on BOTH of the Terri Clark songs. I think we need to reevaluate who is actually her biggest fan around here! Catching up on this rankdown now and no no no I'm the bigger Terri fan lol These just happen to be two of her weaker singles for me is all! Seriously "I Wanna Do It All" is easily my least favorite song from 'Pain To Kill' zaclord 🌈 I hope you still participate when I do a Terri rankdown anyway. :)

I was so scared "Live Like You Were Dying" was going to pull of a win here. I don't hate it as much as I used to but I still think it's one of the weakest of Tim's singles. I just don't care for it like so many others do so yay for it not winning!

I was so surprised that it was a big hit when "Three Mississippi" stalled out.
