What's sad is Epic funneling all this money into Camila and her not yielding the results they were expecting. They are literally out here trying to make "fetch" happen. That puzzles to me too. I can never understand a company that decides to deliberately throw money down the drain like that.

I take it the label snatched control of the group page after they said bye to Camila otherwise it doesn't make sense that one of them or their manager wouldn't promote the album on the group page. The girls probably did all they could to convince Epic to keep them (they could have been dropped before this album right?) but honestly I wish they'd gotten cut now so they could have at least tried to find a label that wouldn't purposely try to hold them back. What's sad is Epic funneling all this money into Camila and her not yielding the results they were expecting. They are literally out here trying to make "fetch" happen. TBH, Epic doesn't really seem to be funneling "all this money" (or effort) into any of its pop acts at the moment. If you go on Twitter, you'll find PLENTY of Camila stans claiming Epic is tanking her and begging her to switch to a different label. And while that would have sounded ridiculous during the Crying In The Club era, it's hard to argue that Epic is being weird with her right now. She's the #1 female artist on Spotify, has a song in the Top 25 on the service, and has an album supposedly coming out in September, yet the label hasn't even confirmed (let alone begun pushing) a new radio single. You can argue that Epic may have helped Havana get its prime placement on Today's Top Hits - but even if so, what's the point if you're not going to do anything with it? It's also interesting that the "rent-a-rappers" on her new song are 300 artists; her manager founded and still has some connection to that label. He - not the label - may have made those happen. Granted, it's not as if they've done a lot for Fifth Harmony either. They had freaking IN2UNE promoting "Down" at radio! I will say that the support/effort for the group has picked up immensely in the past 3-4 weeks; but even then, it's very grassrootsy stuff that could be easily coming from them or their management. It doesn't feel like "major label promo." And ... I mean ... Zara Larsson. Whatever happened to her? Epic feels like it's been running on autopilot since LA's exit. This hasn't really affected the hip-hop artists (who are killing it), but it does seem to be hurting the pop acts (who are more reliant on label support).

If someone at Epic made the final call on it being the lead single, they clearly were setting them up for failure.

Don't Say You Love Me is the best song on the album and this is mostly because it reminds me of their songs during the Reflection era. Sauced Up is probably my second favorite because of the catchy as hell chorus. Not so sure about the other songs yet since I've only listened to it once so far. Definitely miss Camila's presence, voice, and personality on the songs, though.

You can argue that Epic may have helped Havana get its prime placement on Today's Top Hits - but even if so, what's the point if you're not going to do anything with it? This hasn't really affected the hip-hop artists (who are killing it), but it does seem to be hurting the pop acts (who are more reliant on label support). My theory on much of this is after Epic put a bunch of money into CITC only to see it do, at best, just marginally better than Down (which never even should have been chosen as a single, and got much less effort put into it), the label scaled back on the amount of money it was going to pour into Camila. Now they are playing the 'show us you can get a hit first' game which is so frustrating b/c if she couldn't even do it with full support how is she supposed to do it without? I do not expect her album to arrive in September; it will be pushed back to 4Q in the hopes that Havana takes off. Maybe that's for the best, she can catch some holiday sales. But whatever Camila fans might try to argue, there's no denying her image took a hit before it could even really form with the messy breakup. More effort should have been put into keeping the group in the know and making sure they understood that keeping the peace would be better for everyone involved. Let the group know they're being released (if that was the original plan) or if planning to re-sign them, create a joint announcement so everyone appears to be on the same page. Not that 5H's original announcement was bad though. Camila's knee-jerk 'defense' is what blew it up. I don't think that made people actively hate Camila (other than angry Harmonizers), but it made people disinterested instead of intrigued. Meanwhile the 5H girls clearly got screwed over because a) label was convinced it makes Camila look better if she 'wins' the sales/chart battle and b) they probably gave Camila most of 5H's budget instead of treating her as a new signee who gets a budget of her own, irrespective of what any other act on the label is getting. The label refused from the start to see Camila and 5H as anything but an either/or situation. Even when Reid was there the hip-hop part of Epic's roster was overall performing better and getting more attention than the pop acts, so it's no surprise that the pop acts are the ones who are continuing to struggle as there's no permanent leader who has an incentive to build someone up. If I were anyone on the label though I would hate knowing I have to launch a new era while the label is in limbo. Camila in particular struck out on her own at the worst time - LA probably would have continued to pour money into her, but now she's got to scramble to win favor with other people whose only job is to protect the company's bottom line while they wait for a new boss - and right now doesn't have a hit to help her gain any of that favor at all. It kind of reminds me of when Avril's Goodbye Lullaby got released right as they announced they were getting a new CEO in a few months, while Kelly's Stronger era ended up getting pushed back so far that it wasn't started until after the new CEO was there. Avril got stuck with a team that was probably already checked out mentally while Kelly got the benefit of new guys eager to prove themselves.

Down was ok. Angel was really bad to me.
I'm gonna listen to the album and report what I feel. Brb. He Like That is super catchy! Sauced Up is a good album track. The 'Squeeze' of the album. Make You Mad is very meh. The beat is meh. Deliver would be a good single choice! Bop. Lonely Night is good too. Although all of these songs are starting to sound the same... Don't Say You Love Me is a standout!!! I'm gonna be playing this a lot. Messy is also a good album track. Bridges is a perfect album closer. I love the vibe of this song.
Final Thoughts: He Like That, Deliver, Don't Say You Love Me and Bridges are standouts! Although this album sounds kind of basic. All of the songs really similar.

The problem with this album is the same with all of their albums. They have no personality. Just some random songs that could've been done by anyone. They have no identity as a group and haven't secured a sound after how many albums ?

The label was clearly sabotaging this project by dropping "Down" as the lead single.

He Like That Messy Deliver Down Don't Say You Love Me
It's not a bad pop album. I hope they put their full force in promoting the second and third single ("He Like That", ideally followed up by "Messy") and take that perfect revenge against Epic and Camila's team.

This album is amazing, such a cohesive collection - you really hear the harmonies finally and I welcome not hearing that screechy Camila in this album. The 4 voices blend much better! On first listen, here are my favorite to least favorite from Fifth Harmony:
1. Lonely Night (WOW!!!!) (I want this song as a single!) 2. Angel 3. Don't Say You Love Me 4. He Like That 5. Deliver 6. Make You Mad 7. Sauced Up 8. Down 9. Bridges 10. Messy

I just heard the album for the first time and it's just OK for me.
The first five songs all sound similar...they're about love/sex, the girls are sort of rap/sing/talking, and it's very trap/hip-hop.
The second half is MUCH better and where all of the highlights are for me.
I'll have to listen to it again, but I'm also let down at the exclusion of ballads. I wanted harmonies and vocals, not so much rapsingtalk.

There's not way Angel would have been a hit over Down. Down was the perfect single people are just not feeling 5th Harmony. The album is forgettable like their last one. They're just not album artists.

Another thing I'm curious about is why they didn't get them more rent-a-rappers here. It's not like they have to, I'm just surprised there's not an extra verse by Jeremih/Ty Dolla $ign/Kid Ink added to songs like "Lonely Nights" or "Deliver"
