And who is? I get what you're saying and I agree to a point, but just look at current pop stars. Does Demi Lovato compare to Janet, Mariah or any other diva that came before? Does Selena Gomez? Does Justin Bieber compare to Michael Jackson or even to J Timberlake. The bar is set way low nowadays. Saying Fifth Harmony is not in the same ballpark as Destiny's Child is like criticizing Selena Gomez for not being as good as Beyoncé. Fifth Harmony, Little Mix and June's Postcard are pretty much the only active girl groups in existence at this point so while no one's really expecting them to be on the same level as the iconic groups that came before them, one would expect them to be more seasoned performers at this point. Hell, if their performance skills were sharper, it'd help compensate for their hit and miss material. Exactly. They are 3 or 4 albums deep. There is No excuse for them to be at this level of mediocrity. Hell, even The Pussycat dolls would get on a stage and SLAY. I do understand that the bar is set pretty low, but it's not an excuse. Saying everyone else sucks so it's okay for them to suck too is a sad standard. Where is the time and effort to perfect your craft? How do you get on stage for the biggest performance of your career and look unpolished? Who is working with these girls?

I believed they looked sharper than they ever had, you could see a lot of thought and work went into that performance. Could they still improve? For sure. The Pussycat Dolls were were professional dancers before their musical career, right?

Yeah, it's kind of futile to compare them to any other past iconic girl group imo. I mean, they were formed on a TV show as A SINGING group, and even their musical direction changed dramatically from where they were initially marketed as to now. They were never meant or expected to be out here as actual performers really slaying choreography. Ally was never going to be a decent dancer, that's just what it is. And when the group was formed Simon wasnt looking at her as a dancer.
Vocally they're fine. I would love for them to figure out their blends and function as one unit, but you also have to remember, there's never been any sort of attention by their label to develop them. Labels don't invest in artists' development anymore, and I think that's a huge aspect of why we can't compare the artists today to those in the past. Further, when have they really had a chance to truly grow and develop at a foundational level? They've put out a new project each year for the past 3 years, each time with a new tour and new promo process. They've never had a chance to go back and really figure out the basics.

Little Mix rose to fame on the UK version of the same show. I'm not aware of them having drastically different experience beforehand, and they've only been together for about a year longer. Yet they look infinitely more comfortable on stage (and they have for longer than a year). Fifth Harmony has spent plenty of time working with legit choreographer(s). It's just not happening. Lauren and Ally in particular are never going to "slay" choreographed dance moves. Or any dance moves, really. They're just not fluid - they wouldn't be able pull off the Rihanna, grind-y style stuff either. But there are still bigger questions: 1) Do they need to? In 2017, are we still DEMANDING girl groups do flashy choreography? What was so bad about their Fallon performance, in which they just stood at their mics and sang? 2) At a certain point, isn't it the choreographer's job to play to their strengths? Why do they choreograph stuff that the girls can't do?

Little Mix definitely can perform. There is no reason Fifth Harmony should be such poor performers. They really just look like they don't practice enough and if you cant dance, stop trying to dance. modify the choreography to fit your capabilities.

But there are still bigger questions: 1) Do they need to? In 2017, are we still DEMANDING girl groups do flashy choreography? What was so bad about their Fallon performance, in which they just stood at their mics and sang? There's nothing wrong with that, but there's nothing very memorable either. Their VMAs performance has been singled out by most publications as the best of the night. I don't think it would've been had they just stood at their mics and sang. Ideally, they'd be able to put out different types of performances; flashy coreography for the VMAs, a more vocals-driven one for last night, maybe even those sit-down acoustic performances they used to do for YouTube (and sounded great). Their performance for I'm in Love with a Monster (at Corden, I believe) had simple coreography and was one of their best. It's hit and miss, and adds to the idea their team still doesn't really know what to do with them. Little Mix rose to fame on the UK version of the same show. I'm not aware of them having drastically different experience beforehand, and they've only been together for about a year longer. Yet they look infinitely more comfortable on stage (and they have for longer than a year). Agreed. Little Mix's performances are way stronger. On the other hand, they're different people so comparison might be futile. Rihanna is 12 years into her career and she's still not as strong a performer as Beyoncé. She might never be.

I'm not here for the Lauren slander. Yeah she can be stiff and disinterested, but she can also give a solid dance performance. Aside from Normani, of course, she executed the best of the remaining three at the VMAs. Ally has improved a lot as a dancer and clearly puts in a lot of work and effort, but it's never going to happen for her on that front. Lauren has grown a lot as well.
I think as performers, they've been solid this year. Now, as live vocalists and dancers? Not quite. But those are separate things. They're looking more cohesive on stage. Their VMA performance was perfectly fine from a performance aspect.

They are so much better now. They sound so classy without Camile. "He Like That," "Sauced Up," and "Deliver" could be real hits!

Can't believe I am saying this, but I honestly like every song except Angel!
Messy, Bridges, Lonely Night, and He Like That and Sauced Up are favorites too!
I have largely ignored their other two albums, but I really enjoyed that!
It helped that there were only 10 songs lol...

I must say, their VMA 2017 performance is one of their best.
I didn't care for the Camila shade in the beginning, but the performance itself overall was well done and executed.
They had decent vocals, visuals, choreography, stunts (their fall, Normani's split, mic drop, water) and the ARRANGEMENT for Down was great. I wish that was the original studio version of Down instead!

I actually thoroughly enjoy every song on the record, sans maybe Make You Mad (and I think that's just because I'm too eager to hear the masterpiece Deliver!). If HLT becomes the big hit they deserve to have, I think I would go with Lonely Night with a feature like Nicki or Cardi B. if they could afford it, and then they could end the era with Don't Say You Love Me. Or switch the order. Honestly, I would be fine with Sauced Up or Angel being singles, too. That's a good problem to have, plenty of options for singles.

I love there VMA performance it actually reminds me of classic the ones from the 90s early 2000s when britney, tlc, janet, jlo used to do.

Anything will come as next singles from this album? Angel and He like that are still doing nothing to do with any charts. Down is a mess and letdown. If they are just done with this era, i can't.

Either "Deliver" or "Lonely Night" need to be the next single. I can already see them eyeballing "Sauced Up" but keep that Kidz Bop jam on the album. They could also throw out "Bridges" as just a promo single with a simple video with kids affected by the DACA decision, the Trump administration, LGBT issues, etc. Let my favorite SJW Lauren get her shine.

Speaking of single choices, I can't believe they didn't release "Don't Wanna Dance Alone" from their debut EP. The fact that "Me & My Girls" was released over that is a travesty.

I really like this latest cd by them. I also really liked their last one as well. It's very solid. I think I could listen to it from top to bottom. My favorites so far are: "Down"- there VMA performance got me liking it again. I always liked it but didn't get why they released it a kind of "comeback" single and was a little done that already feeling. "Make You Mad"- "Lonely Night"- I just wish the chorus was a little stronger and wasn't just repeating "Lonely , Lonely, Lonely Night" over and over again. "Don't Say You Love Me"- Cute breezy pop song. "Deliver"- Sounds like something a girl group would have put out maybe 10 years ago and i love it! "Sauced Up" would probably be one of my top 3 from the cd but the lyrics "Sauced Up" and the chorus are a little kiddish for me. I still like it though and will probably get over it. lol. I like "He's All That" though it took a few listens. I don't know why though. I think I initially felt it was "Kid Bobz"esque but I disagree now. I liked "Angel" enough from first listen and i won't skip "Messy" but if I was in a rush I would. lol I like cd closer "Bridges". It feels like an album closer without being a ballad. Cute cd!!

^Love the look! 5H apparently plans on spoiling their Harmonizers this era with all the visuals. Even when obviously low-budget they've been really pleasing to the eye.
Only thing I hate is that throwing out these little promo visuals for Angel and Deliver makes me think neither song is planned as a single later, and both songs are worthy of being one.

Um... what is the current single? I've lost track after "Down".
The marketing of this era feels off.
