It was popular its first season and fell into regular ratings in the next two seasons. They changed times for the fourth season and ratings fell a lot. Honestly, it was a toss up for renewal as the delayed viewing was decent and would've been over the 100 episode mark for syndication had it been renewed. Either way, McPhee has been on television for seven seasons (idol, Smash, scorpion), her time will continue.
For all the scorn I gave to it, I really am very grateful for Scorpion. It did really help her stay relevant for the last couple of years and landed her so many cool opportunities that I don't think she would have gotten if she wasn't on the show. It was a definite breakout hit during its first two seasons and I'm glad Kat was part of it (even if I stopped watching midway through Season 2). And it's definitely cool to to be able to have on one's her to have been one of the leads of a network TV show for 4 years.
Having said that, Scorpion was no longer doing her any favours. It was pretty much tying her down for 10 months, while no one was really watching it anymore. It was a sinking ship, and as sad as it may be for its fans, it was time to let it go. Kat herself has been admitting or hinting about it in several interviews in the last couple of months.
And, as bittersweet as it may be, I definitely think this a positive sign for Kat's career, especially right now. There's a great buzz and positivity around her because of Waitress and how well-received her performance has been. I'm sure her next adventure post-Scorpion will be even brighter, be it a TV show, a film, another Broadway musical or whatever it may be. After all these years, homegurl sure is a trooper and won't go down without a fight! Get it Kat! <3

I don't know. I really liked Yolanda on RHOBH and so seeing them together makes me feel....bad, especially knowing one of the main reasons he probably left Yolanda was so he could find a younger woman like Katherine McPhee. : X
Kat's love life has always been eh to me. Although I did like the time when she had a real life romance with Scorpion's Walter! Anyway, I initially watched Scorpion just for her but grew to like it as it was fun popcorn TV. I'm gonna miss it and the season 4 finale ended with unresolved issues with the team so a bummer.
Her extension on Waitress makes sense with the Scorpion cancellation. Her initial schedule was tailor fitted when Scorpion finished production and would have ended just right before Scorpion production had it been renewed. It makes me wonder if Kat is a little happy the show got cancelled lol Anyway, very happy for her as her Waitress performance has been well received
