SURPRISE! You don't have to wait a month for the next update! I'm also gonna make an effort after this to finish the game entirely over the next few days; I'll carry this through to #11, with the top 10 to be done in one hit next. I mentioned in one of the reveals I re-did my list partway through the submission process. When I re-did my list, this region became a dead zone for some songs I did some damage to, that you might not be happy with me for (and trust me I'm not happy about it either). But there IS a reason for it, which you may be able to guess - and if not, by the end of this set it should be clear. Now before we get on with today's s**t show, here's a look at the next two honourable mentions: "I'm free to be the greatest, I'm alive I'm free to be the greatest here tonight, the greatest The greatest, the greatest alive The greatest, the greatest alive"RELEASED: September 6th, 2016 'The Greatest' was released as the third single from Sia's seventh studio album 'This Is Acting'; it was written and recorded after the initial release of the album, but was included on a deluxe re-release after supposedly being intended as the lead for Sia's eighth album. The single has two versions; a solo version and a version featuring rapper Kendrick Lamar. The music video is notable for paying tribute to the victims of the Pulse Orlando nightclub shooting; including frequent collaborator Maddie Ziegler, there are 49 dancers featured in the video each representing one of the victims of the shooting. MY THOUGHTS: This song was left off the list because it was a huge international hit with a lot of recognition; I love the song and had it not been for my own stipulation about not including big US hits, this would have been quite high on my list. RELEASED: May 27th, 2010 The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) has used multiple theme songs for their new program throughout the years; this iteration composed by Peter Wall and Tony Ansell was used for 19 years between 1986 to 2005. Drum and bass band Pendulum, inexplicably, produced and released a remix of this theme music in 2010, and the song managed to chart for a single week in the top 40. The remix also came in at #11 on Triple J's Hottest 100 list for 2010. MY THOUGHTS: This is easily one of the most bizarre things to ever make our local charts lmao. It was never going to be included on the main list (otherwise it would rob Anja Nissen of her rightful last place with 'I'm So Bored Excited') but it was too interesting an anecdote to not acknowledge at all lmao. I do actually remember this theme music and the remix actually has some rather nice production. So random lol! PARTICIPANTSAz PaynterBenoBilly@antigonerising DistrictTwelvePollenJuan CarlosWho The Hell Is Leo?✔Normiwillapted33THE PEANUT GALLERY@walker9 @jamesflame Mylo13 💜COMING UP AT #25: 8 people ranked this in their top half, and two of these rankings were top 10's. The other two rankings are bottom 20's. This song started low and hustled to make its eventual finishing position.

"Clap your hands, clap your hands Turn the lights on my nights, this is life and we only get one chance Oh clap your hands, clap your hands Come on dance, take a chance on romance, we only get one shot at love"RELEASED: April 13th, 2010 ‘Clap Your Hands’ was the second single from Sia’s fifth studio album ‘We Are Born’, and was at the time her biggest local success; as it was her first release (as either a lead act or as a feature) to reach the top 20. Despite its short chart life and relatively low peak, it was the starting point for her rise to prominence; the song was nominated for Single Of The Year at the 2010 ARIA Awards, and its music video won the award for Best Video. Additionally, the album was nominated for three awards, winning two of them (for Best Independent Release and Best Pop Album; it lost Album Of The Year). MY THOUGHTS: So we immediately run into one of the unfortunate casualties of my list re-shuffling. I have a soft spot for this song being the single that led me to ‘discover’ Sia, and it’s also the reason why I bought a copy of ‘We Are Born’. I was hoping this could do well, since Sia’s work before her commercial explosion is a little more obscure, and I’m sad that my tanking it preventing it from placing in the top 20. This only had six top half rankings, and two of them are top 10's. Down the other end however, a bottom 5 is about to be excised, as well as a near bottom 10 ranking. This song spent multiple lists in the top 10, even reaching the top 5 at one point - but then in the latter half of entries the song was dragged way down out of even the top 20.

I hate that it's been so long since I've listened to these songs, b/c I can't even recall where I ranked anything, never mind take a stab at the hints for what is coming up next. James is the only person left with a #70 so it might be that b/c of the near bottom 10 clue. That's all I got.

"My happy little pill, take me away Dry my eyes, bring color to my skies My sweet little pill, tame my hunger Lie within, numb my skin"RELEASED: July 25th, 2014 ‘Happy Little Pill’ was the major label debut single by Australian singer & actor Troye Sivan, released as the lead track from his EP ‘TRXYE’. Troye described the song as having been inspired by someone very close to him who was struggling with depression; this is speculated to be his rumoured ex-boyfriend Connor Franta (the two YouTube personalities were known friends, but a romantic relationship was never explicitly confirmed). In Australia, the EP achieved a top 10 peak on the singles chart (another case of being ineligible for the albums chart) due to the success of the song. ‘Happy Little Pill’ also found success across Europe, and became his first Hot 100 entry in the US. MY THOUGHTS: I really wish this song had been given a proper push in the US, I think Troye would have had the hype behind him for it to have blown up, giving him a stronger foundation to launch his debut album era with a hit single on top of the top 5 peak of the EP on the Billboard albums chart. I also really wish this song had finished a lot stronger in this game, but there were tankers (and this time I’m not one of them). Also again somebody is about to ditch a bottom 5. This song spent two separate occasions in the top 10 - one of which was even in the top 5 - but each time it would make the top 10 it would promptly be shoved out by the next list.

Funny that I was right about the person with the near bottom 10 rank for it, but not quite the rank he gave it.

"You couldn’t help out your own neighbor You couldn’t tell it to his face You were f**ked up by the blame"RELEASED: November 11th, 2011 ‘Brother’ was the first single from Matt Corby’s EP ‘Into The Flame’. It was his first taste of chart success after he became the runner-up of the 5th season of Australian Idol. The song came in at #3 on Triple J’s Hottest 100 list for 2011, and also won the award for Song Of The Year at the 2012 ARIA Awards. To date ‘Brother’ is his biggest hit single; and both this song and later hit ‘Resolution’ were included as iTunes bonus tracks on Matt’s debut full-length LP ‘Telluric’ in 2016. MY THOUGHTS: Matt Corby was the pretty boy favourite during his season of Idol, and I was not a fan of him. I was cool with him not winning, and so was he - presumably, he would have been pressured into the role of a teen pop idol as an Idol winner, and not winning gave him the freedom to find his own way as an artist, which led him down a more indie path. Normally his style of music isn’t my thing at all but for whatever reason I really like this song and I was kind of excited to see it do well, so for it to ultimately miss the top 20 is a disappointment for me. #IBlameBecky @antigonerising #5 Beno #6 Pollen #12 Az Paynter #13 willapted33 #25 Billy #32 Juan Carlos #43 Normi #47 Who The Hell Is Leo?✔ #66 DistrictTwelve #77 {Songs Remaining} Betty Who - I Love You Always Forever Birds Of Tokyo - Lanterns Conrad Sewell - Start Again Dami Im - Sound Of Silence Dean Lewis - Waves Delta Goodrem - Wings Delta Goodrem - Wish You Were Here Flume - Say It (ft. "You were right I know I can't get enough of you Leave it all to bloom, you were right I know I can't get enough of you, no The things that I would do"RELEASED: June 26th, 2015 ‘You Were Right’ was the lead single from ‘Bloom’, the second album of alternative dance outfit RÜFÜS. It is their biggest local hit, peaking just outside the top 20 on the ARIA singles chart with a 2x Platinum certification. Three more singles were released from ‘Bloom’ following this song’s success, all of which were certified at least Gold, but only one of the other three singles charted in the top 50. The song won Best Dance Release at the 2015 ARIA Awards. MY THOUGHTS: I kinda owe Juan an apology for this, I have to thank him for introducing this song via a Madness tournament and I do like it, but it ended up a victim of my dead zone (in hindsight a bit needlessly - I could’ve and should’ve still put it higher than where I did). I think this should have at least made the top 20 and I really didn’t help in that regard; it deserved better. Only one top 10 is lost here, but it’s a top 5; and out of the seven top half rankings four of them are top 20’s. There are two bottom 20 rankings that prevented this from finishing higher. The song spent two separate occasions in the top 10, and both times it spent a duration of two lists in the region before one of the low rankings booted it out.

"I'm at home, on my own Check my phone, nothing though Act busy, order in Pay TV, it’s agony"RELEASED: June 25th, 2014 ‘Big Girls Cry’ was the third single from Sia’s sixth album ‘1000 Forms Of Fear’, following the success of prior hits ‘Chandelier’ and ‘Elastic Heart’. It was initially released as one of the pre-album promo singles before it became the third international single nearly a year later. While it was not given a formal push in the US, the song found success in Australia and Europe. The video is the third in a trilogy directed by Sia and Daniel Askill, and featuring dancer Maddie Ziegler. MY THOUGHTS: I’m sad that Sia is as popular as she is nowadays and she couldn’t land a song in the top 20 (and like RÜFÜS in hindsight I didn’t have to be so hard on ‘Clap Your Hands’ so I had my own part to play in this). ‘Big Girls Cry’ is probably my second favourite single from ‘1000 Forms Of Fear’ behind ‘Chandelier’, and since it wasn’t a US single it was a pretty good candidate to make the list (I did consider ‘Alive’ as well, but while it was a relative flop there, it was still a US single which is why I ran with this instead). Annoyingly, the video is banned in Australia since it’s got Maddie again in a skin-coloured leotard and I guess somebody objected to the imagery in the video. It’s also a painful one; somebody is about to lose their #1. There are a further two top 20’s lost out of seven top half rankings. It also has a bottom 20 ranking. For most of the game this was actually in the top 10, but the second-last list kicked it out and the final list sealed its fate.

"I'm your Lolita, La Femme Nikita When we’re together, you’ll love you forever You’re my possession, I’m your obsession Don’t tell me never, I’ll love you forever"RELEASED: July 27th, 2012 ‘Lolita’ is a non-album single by twin duo The Veronicas, originally intended as the lead single from their third studio album ‘Life On Mars’. The single stalled out in the 20’s on the ARIA chart however, and complications with then-label Warner Bros. Records led to the album being delayed and eventually cancelled when the duo left the label. When their self-titled third album was released on Sony Music Australia, the song was understandably not included. MY THOUGHTS: To start off with, I’m pleased the Veronicas managed to make it into the top 20 with all of their songs intact (this includes their Michael Paynter feature). I like this song a lot, and I was excited for it being in the top 10 until the last two lists knocked it right out (jeez thanks James and Cynthia lol!). A bunch of tracks intended for ‘Life On Mars’ did somehow leak, so at least we did get some idea of the direction they were going with the album. Also I’ve gotta give a shoutout to the acoustic mash-up version with Bieber’s ‘As Long As You Love Me’ that they did with my fave (btw it’s actually him doing the high harmonies)~ Juan Carlos #1 Who The Hell Is Leo?✔ #16 Billy #19 Beno #23 Az Paynter #26 Normi #27 @antigonerising #36 willapted33 #47 Pollen #56 DistrictTwelve #62 {Songs Remaining} Betty Who - I Love You Always Forever Birds Of Tokyo - Lanterns Conrad Sewell - Start Again Dami Im - Sound Of Silence Dean Lewis - Waves Delta Goodrem - Wings Delta Goodrem - Wish You Were Here Flume - Say It (ft. "You don't own me I'm not just one of your many toys You don't own me Don't say I can't go with other boys"RELEASED: March 17th, 2015 ‘You Don’t Own Me’ is the debut single by Grace Sewell (who uses her first name as a mononym). The song is a cover of the Lesley Gore single from 1963, which features production from Quincy Jones who famously also produced the original Lesley Gore version. Grace’s version also features a guest rap from American rapper G-Eazy, although a solo version of Grace’s take also exists. Grace and her brother Conrad made ARIA history when they became the first local siblings to chart atop the singles chart as separate entities. The song would later break out internationally with widespread success in the UK and across Europe, and limited success in the US. MY THOUGHTS: This is a song I don’t actually feel too bad about tanking, partly because I figured it would do well anyway. I do like it though, and I wish it had been a bigger US hit (#teamAUSSIE). That said, I haven’t really gotten into Grace as an artist so as much as I like the song I’m not overly invested in her - thus I’m not so fussed about fully getting behind this here. "This ain’t love, I don’t feel, and nothing hurts ‘Cause this ain’t love that I feel ‘Cause I made it through the night"RELEASED: September 11th, 2015 ‘This Ain’t Love’ is a single by Jessica Mauboy, intended as the lead single from her fourth studio album. The song draws its inspiration from UK drum and bass, in a departure from her usual pop/R&B style. It is currently unknown whether the song will still be included on the album given its age, and no further news about the album has materialised since Jess went on to star in the Australian TV drama ‘The Secret Daughter’ for two seasons, with her musical output following ‘This Ain’t Love’ being for the show rather than her next record. This song features the third lowest standard deviation of the game. MY THOUGHTS: Okay here is the first of my tankings that I’m absolutely gutted about, especially since I’m the only one to put it in their bottom half (at least it still got a low SD despite this…?). #LookWhatYouMadeMeDo I love this song and I love this sound from Jess, and even if the special effects are a little too noticeable the video is actually pretty decent for an Aussie film clip! If it weren’t for me this could have gone a lot further, but I’m glad it still pulled off a top 20 finish. There are a further two top 10 rankings, and seven top half placements. Two people also put this in their bottom 20, and one of them is a bottom 10. This song didn’t actually perform as well as I’d have expected, only spending time in the top 20 for two lists.

"Getting hard to break through the madness You're not here, it never makes sense Tidal waves of tears are crashing No one here to save me drowning 'Cause baby you're not here with me"RELEASED: March 11th, 2016 ‘Sound Of Silence’ is a single by Korean-Australian singer and X Factor winner Dami Im, written and recorded to be Australia’s entry in the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest held in Stockholm, Sweden. The song was a massive success in the contest, with Australia being one of the favourites to win. The song won its semi-final and also won with the juries in the Grand Final by over 100 points, and ultimately placed 2nd after combining the jury results with the televote. The song is currently Australia’s best-performing entry in our short Eurovision career to-date. Following Dami’s success in the contest, the single went on to be a major chart hit for Dami in Australia, and also helping her find success throughout Europe. MY THOUGHTS: Two songs in a row that hurt my heart to do so dirty. I was not keen on Dami’s announcement as our Eurovision act in 2016, but the song turned out to be one of the better ones from that year’s crop and Dami turned the entire thing all the way up to 11 with the Eurovision performance - which went way off-script in regards to the melody on the recorded version by giving the song a much larger vocal range that showed off Dami’s power and ability. We deserved to win damn it lol! I’m so sorry for my low ranking on this. I can’t speak for these other tankers though... There is only one top 10 ranking for this song, and only three top 20’s. Eight people put it in their top half though, and someone put it in their bottom 5. This one bounced around the middle of the rankings for a while until it settled here in the top 20.

"It was you they told me who was in trouble I couldn't breathe on the other side of the world And there was nothing I could do to help you"RELEASED: October 12th, 2012 ‘Wish You Were Here’ was the third and final single taken from Delta Goodrem’s fourth album ‘Child Of The Universe’. It was written to commemorate Liam O’Flaherty, a lifelong friend of Delta’s who died in a motorbiking accident in 2009. Delta reportedly struggled to write a song in tribute to her deceased friend until his birthday two years after his death, when she finally wrote this song. Delta once said in an interview that she considers it one of the best songs she’s ever written. MY THOUGHTS: I didn’t tank this one! It’s a good song, and I appreciate the sentiment behind it, it’s just not one of my favourite things that Delta has done. I’m a little surprised this got further than ‘Sitting On Top Of The World’ but I guess the sentiment of the song resonated with almost everyone (I’m sorry but this didn’t deserve that bottom 5 ranking wt actual f Norman). Also, screw her label for geo-restricting the video! Six people put this song in their top half, and three people put it in their top 10. There is a bottom 20 ranking however. The song hustled throughout the game, almost making it into the top 10 on two separate occasions until it settled here at #15.

"All I believe and all I've known Are being taken from me back at home Yeah do your worst, when worlds collide Let their fear collapse, bring no surprise"RELEASED: May 1st, 2010 ‘Watercolour’ was the lead single from drum and bass band Pendulum’s third album ‘Immersion’. While the band has found success with their album releases, this is their only single to appear in the top 50 of the ARIA singles chart with only two weeks on chart and barely making the top 40. The single found much greater success in the UK, where it peaked in the top 5 and was their second top 10 hit. MY THOUGHTS: This song doing as well as it did is actually rather surprising to me, I wasn’t expecting it to perform this strongly. I like the song and its video, but it’s one of those songs that got pushed down my list due to all the other content that I have a stronger attachment to. I’m pleased though, that this did make the top 15 because it’s not typical pop fare. There are two bottom 20 rankings however, and one of them is the last holdout #80 - took Norm long enough to lose it! This song got close to top 10 twice, and spent the second half of the game comfortably in the top 20.

"On we march with a midnight song We will light our way with our lanterns on On we march ‘til we meet the dawn We will light our way with our lanterns on"RELEASED: January 14th, 2013 ‘Lanterns’ was the second single from Birds Of Tokyo’s fourth album ‘March Fires’. It is their first (and currently only) top 10 hit on the ARIA chart, making it their biggest hit to-date. The song also found minor success on alternative radio when it crossed over to the US market in 2014. The song’s parent album also become their first chart-topper in Australia. ‘Lanterns’ features the second highest standard deviation in this game. MY THOUGHTS: So here’s another one that got unfairly treated by me, but not one I feel as bad for. What helped me properly get into this song was when it was covered on The Voice; before then I was sort of aware of the song, but it wasn’t until after a contestant sang it that I connected the song to the name and original artist. I’m undecided which I prefer - this, or ‘Plans’ - given my rankings of the two songs don’t properly reflect my feelings on them. willapted33 #6 Juan Carlos #9 DistrictTwelve #11 Billy #13 @antigonerising #15 Beno #16 Who The Hell Is Leo?✔ #26 Pollen #52 Az Paynter #70 Normi #80 {Songs Remaining} Betty Who - I Love You Always Forever Conrad Sewell - Start Again Dean Lewis - Waves Delta Goodrem - Wings Flume - Say It (ft. No top 5’s, but there is a bottom 5. This found the top 20 by mid-game and parked itself there for the rest of the submission period. It never really challenged for top 10.

"Our hearts are like firestones And when they strike we feel the love Sparks will fly, they ignite our bones And when they strike we light up the world"RELEASED: December 1st, 2014 ‘Firestone’ was a single by Norwegian DJ/Producer Kygo, featuring Australian singer Conrad Sewell. The song was the first single taken from Kygo’s debut album ‘Cloud Nine’. In Australia the song was slow to gain attention; it was released before Conrad’s single ‘Start Again’, but did not reach its top 10 peak until after ‘Start Again’ had reached its peak. Conrad is not the only Australian artist to appear on Kygo’s album, as it also featured collaborations with Matt Corby and brother-and-sister duo Angus & Julia Stone. MY THOUGHTS: Yes I tanked this. No it’s not one I feel guilty about. I don’t care for this song at all; I don’t care for Conrad that much, and I don’t care for Kygo (although I did like ‘First Time’ - but that’s more because of Ellie Goulding). This is a song I figured would be fairly popular hence its inclusion, it just does nothing for me and I don’t feel any kind of way about it falling short of the top 10. ANOTHER #1 BITES THE DUST! This is the end for an artist with multiple entries in the game. This next song actually wound up with the highest standard deviation of the game - five people placed it in their top 10 (including the aforementioned #1) and those five top 10’s are the only rankings it got in the top half. The other five people all put it in their bottom half, and while it has no bottom 10’s it has two bottom 20’s. This was almost top 10.

"Leave this blue neighbourhood Never knew loving could hurt this good, oh And it drives me wild 'Cause when you look like that I've never ever wanted to be so bad, oh It drives me wild"RELEASED: June 23rd, 2016 ‘Wild’ was a single by Troye Sivan, first released as the title track of the ‘Wild’ EP, and later re-released as the third single from debut album ‘Blue Neighbourhood’. The single version featured additional vocals from Canadian singer Alessia Cara; the collaboration came about after performing live covers of each other’s songs (Troye covered ‘Here’ and Alessia responded with a cover of ‘Youth’). The song reached the top 20 in Australia on its initial release, while the Alessia version peaked ten places lower. The single did not receive a video until the Alessia version was released. This song has the largest standard deviation of the game. MY THOUGHTS: Whyyyyy. Troye could have finished in the top 10 but this (and #11) are real #LookWhatYouMadeMeDo moments. I hate my ranking for this so much. I hate it so so so so so much! But you can guess what my #1 is - and guess what? This is not it! This song has two top 10 rankings, but neither of them is a #1. Eight people put it in their top half, and the other two are bottom 20 rankings (one of which is a bottom 10). This achieved its final (and highest) position with the last list from Cynthia.

"What if I fall (I won't let you fall) What if I cry (I'll never make you cry) And if I get scared (I'll hold you tighter) When they're tryna get to you baby I'll be the fighter"RELEASED: February 6th, 2017 ‘The Fighter’ is a duet between Keith Urban and American singer Carrie Underwood, released in the US as the fifth single from Keith’s ninth studio album ‘Ripcord’. The song was active in Australia prior to its single treatment in the US, reaching its peak in 2016 and making it onto the year-end chart for 2016. ‘The Fighter’ is Keith’s third appearance in the top 20 on the ARIA chart, and Carrie’s first appearance in that same region. MY THOUGHTS: Whyyyyy. [2] This rankdown was a legitimate chance for this song to do well in a rankdown, and it has - but damn it why did I have to screw this one over too?! At this point if should be obvious (if it wasn’t already) that I squashed this and other songs from this set so that Michael Paynter could get a top 10 finish. Gahhh, the lengths I have to go to for my fave! This should also explain why ‘The Fighter’ was my #1 in the 2017 Hot 100 Year-End rankdown, because I was (over?) compensating for what I did to it here. At least it did finally manage a high spot in a rankdown but I hate that it could have been bigger and I wrecked everything. If this doesn’t say #LookWhatYouMadeMeDo IDK what does. Shocked Betty Who made the top 10, and that Watercolour made it as far as it did
The ABC news theme would've been in my top 10, I laughed so hard when one of my mates showed it to me and it remains funny to this day.
