#26. Michael Paynter - "Love the Fall" god dammit I was thinking Michael Paynter in my head, but for some reason, I just thought of Ben Hazlewood lmao.

It's cause Ben's been the one I've been able to trot out for Madness games instead of Michael, probably. :sip2:

Az has a picture of Michael Paynter as his avatar and the quote below suggested that it was him, which reminds me to the exposé thread.

SONG #26: Michael Paynter - Love The Fall (ft. The Veronicas)
LMAO the randomizer actually put this virtually right at the end but I was like 'f**k it' I am too impatient and I want to just get this out of the way. If you've known me long enough, you should be aware that I am a HUUUUUUGE fan of Michael Paynter's voice. I've been following his career for 9 years now and IMO he is hugely underrated and criminally unsuccessful on the ARIA chart. This song (from the EP of the same name) is his only legitimate hit song. He had a second top 50 entry that I could've included (for stan-related reasons hah) but it was a performance from 'The Voice' so it got cut. Anyway, here it is. I wasn't gonna pass up the opportunity to include Michael when it was right.f**king.there lmao. :sip2:
SONG #27: Tina Arena - You Set Fire To My Life
Tina Arena got her start as 'Tiny Tina' on Australian talent show 'Young Talent Time' back in the 80's (the same show also launched the career of Dannii Minogue). Tina became a staple of Australian pop music in the 90's, but she hasn't been as big a chart entity following this peak. 'You Set Fire To My Life' was the lead single from her 10th studio album 'Reset'. It was her first song to chart in the top 50 for 11 years after her top 10 hit 'Symphony Of Life'.
SONG #28: Keith Urban - The Fighter (ft. Carrie Underwood)
Nobody went the country route lol. Although to be fair this is pretty much a pop song with very little in the way of country trimmings. This was a top 20 hit in Australia, but has become a #1 country airplay hit on Mediabase (literally on a knife's edge, it was THAT close). I'm kinda selfishly hoping familiarity bias will treat this song well; IDK how well or poorly it will do in other rankdowns it's likely to appear in, so I think it might be nice for it to have a chance to do well somewhere at the very least.
SONG #29: RÜFÜS - You Were Right
This one's for you, Juan~ In Australia this is their highest-peaking song. I think it's been used in a ad campaign here, but I can't remember what for. I also think it was from a Madness game that I was introduced to this song? I can't remember that either lmao but I like it so it's here~
SONG #30: Samantha Jade - Up!
First things first - I haaaate the video for this lmao. The concept is basic af, the fashion is not on point and the make-up looks overdone and gross. That said, this is a great song. It was used as the official Socceroos song for the 2014 FIFA World Cup (which is so random lol). This was the third in a string of singles intended for Samantha's scrapped second album (the preceding two are also in this rankdown, the follow-up is not).
IN THE NEXT REVEAL:
Song #31: Maddie Ziegler stars in the video. (From 2014) Song #32: This female DJ's international hit is not in this rankdown, surprisingly. This is her next-biggest local hit. (From 2013) Song #33: Pulse Eurovision Queen, utterly ruined by Will.u.stop. :sip2: (From 2014) Song #34: One of Australia's biggest female artists, going strong since the early 2000's. This song is a single from her 4th album. (From 2012) Song #35: His sister has already shown up in this rankdown; this was an Australian-only hit. (From 2015)

I was gonna guess The Fighter, but you said it wasn't a Hot 100 hit. #31: Big Girls Cry?

But 'The Fighter' wasn't big on the Hot 100, I thought? Hasn't it only peaked at like #53? And lol yeah #31 is BGC.

#33. Anja Nissen featuring will.i.am & Cody Wise - "I'm So Excited" #35. Conrad Sewell - "Start Again" Correct. #32. Havana Brown featuring R3hab & Prophet - "Big Banana" #34. Delta Goodrem - "Sitting on Top of the World" RE: Havana - wrong song. 'Big Banana' isn't in this. RE: Delta - right album, wrong song - but in this case I guess it doesn't matter because that song is also in this rankdown.

I thought it was 2012 and not 2013 with Havana's song. As a consequence, it should be "Warrior". Regarding Delta Goodrem, I would go with "Dancing With a Broken Heart".

'Chandelier' was a big crossover US hit, as was 'Cheap Thrills' and 'Elastic Heart' so they weren't even in the running lol, sorry. :(

I was referring to its low Hot 100 peak anyway (re: 'The Fighter'), I know about its year end prospects. I know there are other rankdowns it will likely appear in but I legit don't know how it will fare in those.

SONG #31: Sia - Big Girls CryApparently the video has been banned in Australia?! It appears to be geo-restricted because it doesn't show up on her VEVO page here. So I can't link the actual music video here, just the audio from Sia's own channel. Anyway, this was the second single from '1000 Forms Of Fear' in Australia, where it peaked in the top 20; it also charted in Canada, France and the UK. SONG #32: Havana Brown - WarriorHavana Brown released 'Warrior' as the second single from her debut studio album 'Flashing Lights'. After its lead single (the title track) went nowhere fast in Australia, 'Warrior' was more heavily promoted and became her second-highest charting local hit - just shy of the top 10. Both 'Warrior' and 'Flashing Lights' were #1 hits on the Billboard dance charts. SONG #33: Anja Nissen - I'm So Excited (ft. Will.i.am & Cody Wise)( WARNING: SALT ALERT) Why oh why oh why did Anja get saddled with Will.i.am as her coach? Oh yeah, dumb bitch had her pick of ALL FOUR judges and she chose him. :sip2: To be blunt; it f**ked up her career trajectory post-show, with a winner's single written by Delta being vetoed by Will, making Anja the worst-off Voice winner out of six seasons. To add insult to injury Will basically hi-jacked the debut single she DID eventually release, turning this song into his own personal vanity project. He gets the entire first verse all to himself, while Anja has to go halves with Cody Wise (who?!). On top of this, the hook is over-long and repetitive and the production is uninspired. Anja is effectively relegated to guest star status on her own song. Thank god she dumped Will.u.quit and found Jesus Michael Paynter and MSquared Productions, and started making actual good music. :sip2: SONG #34: Delta Goodrem - Wish You Were HereSorry Juan, no 'Dancing With A Broken Heart' here (for the record, single version > album version). 'Wish You Were Here' was the 3rd single lifted from Delta's 4th album 'Child Of The Universe', written about and dedicated to a friend of Delta's that has passed away. Also, lead single 'Sitting On Top Of The World' has already been spoiled as appearing in this rankdown so that's coming too lol. SONG #35: Conrad Sewell - Start AgainThis song was released as Conrad's second solo single in Australia, hitting #1 after 'Hold Me Up' was a relative flop (that song limped to a #39 peak here). It was also his first Australian top 10, as 'Firestone' with Kygo was spurred on by the success of 'Start Again' to eventually reach the top 10, despite 'Firestone' being released first in late 2014. IN THE NEXT REVEAL:Song #36: This is here purely for selfish reasons lmao. It is related to 'The Voice', and it comes from a runner-up. ( From 2013) Song #37: You've just heard from her in the last reveal; this is her most recent #1 hit. ( From 2015) Song #38: Indigenous Australian goes UK drum & bass. ( From 2015) Song #39: Female finalist from the debut season of 'The Voice'; this is her debut single following the show. ( From 2012) Song #40: This artist came from the same season of 'The Voice' as #39, and this song led her second album. ( From 2013) Let me know if you want to be tagged in the reveals!

Did a bit of research, did you? :kii: #40 is correct; #39 is also right artist, wrong song. 'Beautiful' wasn't her debut single but a song she performed on the show (I'll give a little background on that when I post the reveal).

SONG #36: Luke Kennedy - Love Is GoneI can't find a fan upload of this song, and IDK if the 'provided to YouTube' version will work for everyone, so if it doesn't work I'mma have to put up my own upload. Anyway lol, Luke Kennedy was the season 2 runner-up of The Voice AUS, beaten by Harrison Craig. Both had their own distinctive characteristics; Harrison was known for his stutter (which was unnecessarily over-emphasised, especially when it didn't affect his singing one iota) while Luke is a classically-trained tenor. During the first two seasons of The Voice, the top 4 finalists (one for each coach) would write and perform their own original song during the grand final, and 'Love Is Gone' is the song that Luke came up with. It doesn't show off his classical training as such, but I cut out cover performances from 'The Voice' so those songs that do show off what he can do ended up on the cutting room floor. But please, if you have a moment and if the video isn't geo-restricted check out his blind audition. SONG #37: Delta Goodrem - Wings'Wings' is Delta Goodrem's 9th career #1 in Australia, inspired by sounds coming out of the UK. It was the 2nd single from her 5th studio album 'Wings Of The Wild' despite pre-dating its parent album by a year (prior single 'Only Human' was at the time a standalone release but was later included on the album). It was also the biggest hit from the album. I have only a very slight amount of saltiness over the fact that 'Wings' spent a second week at #1 blocking Adam Lambert's 'Ghost Town' from also being a #1 hit here. SONG #38: Jessica Mauboy - This Ain't LoveLol nobody tried to guess this song. Released in late 2015, this is supposed to be part of Jessica's forthcoming studio album - but with a hit Aussie TV drama ('The Secret Daughter') in which she stars as the main character, and a lot of time passing, IDK whether it will still make it. Current single 'Fallin' is a totally different style, which could mean a change in direction. This song hit the top 5 on the ARIA chart, and for a change (a rarity for Aussie acts) the video appears to have had a budget! SONG #39: Sarah De Bono - No ShameLol DistrictTwelve, 'Beautiful' was an admirable guess, but as per my Luke commentary, 'Beautiful' was an original song that Sarah performed on the final of 'The Voice'. I had wanted to include that song, but in the process of cutting down the list 'Beautiful' got the chop. Chart-wise, 'Beautiful' was the actual hit, peaking in the top 5, but as for personal preference I liked 'No Shame' better so when choosing between the two I favoured this. 'No Shame' would have been Sarah's winner's single had she won the show but nobody stood a chance next to Karise Eden lol. This song was not successful when it was released, although its parent album did make the top 10. SONG #40: Karise Eden - Threads Of SilenceKarise Eden, debut Voice AUS winner, is making two appearances in this rankdown. The first of these is 'Threads Of Silence', the lead single from her second album. Karise isn't the kind of artist to be a pop chart staple, with the main body of her ARIA chart success relating to her tenure on The Voice. This song reached the top 20 however, after she returned to the show during its second season to perform the song. 'Threads Of Silence' was also used in promo spots for Australian TV drama 'Underbelly' (Channel Nine, who owns the rights to The Voice franchise in Australia, frequently utilises talent from the show to provide the soundtracks for promo material). IN THE NEXT REVEAL:Song #41: It ain't Selena, and it ain't Grace. ( From 2015) Song #42: You can't even call her a OHW, it barely limped into the top 40. ( From 2010) Song #43: She's so fancy (but it's not that song). ( From 2013) Song #44: She tried Australian Idol and The X Factor, and won neither. She's appearing in this rankdown in two iterations; as a soloist and in a duo. ( From 2014) Song #45: He's already been in this rankdown one; he's been a judge on both The Voice and Idol in different countries. ( From 2012) Let me know if you want to be tagged in the reveals!
