being good at the two lesser parts of the formula doesn't matter when you're s**t at the most important part Oh yeah, forgot streaming holds the most weight on the Hot 100. Which IMO is the most bulls**t thing ever, but whatever. Yeah, it's bullshit that the #1 way people consume music is also the strongest component.

Yeah, it's bulls**t that the #1 way people consume music is also the strongest component. That's true, but I feel like sales should be stronger honestly. They've increased the weight of sales twice in the past year and a half. They're just falling because more and more people are opting to stream instead.

Despacito has 2 damn versions both in the top 20 on iTunes and top 50 on spotify. It's still #1 on radio. And it's still gaining over 20 million+ views (combined) on YouTube. Can anything please stop this song

This shows the slight difference between the kworb chart and the one used by Billboard for the Hot 100
For that, Billboard had a new #1 last week

Rihanna and DJ Khaled are offering prize money to fans who create the best 60 second "Wild Thoughts" videos. (Too bad no one told them that Instagram views don't count). This is a new level of payola! I wonder if it would be in violation of Billboard's chart policies.

This is a new level of payola! I wonder if it would be in violation of Billboard's chart policies. I don't see why it would be. People have to actively participate to win anything. You can give out money all you want, but if no one is willing to take the initiative to create the video, then you can't force them to. It's honestly less of an issue than airplay, which is forced upon listeners. Creating a video, even for a prize, is still in the hands of the consumer.

Similar to the old "digital download days" for a particular pop song. Generates buzz enough among the fan sites and gives people something to talk about but rarely will it be enough to affect chart position
How many videos has this thread sent in?

^ Uptown Funk got 56 and if the 52 week rule were active at the time Radioactive would have got 71. So I have a bold prediction. Wild thoughts will hit number 1 for 1 week but won't immediately replace Despacito. This has happened with the last two huge number 1's, first Starboy looked like it would get stuck at number 2 behind Closer, then another song hit number 1, then Starboy shot up to number 1 randomly. Then That's What I Like looked like it would get stuck at number 2 behind Shape Of You, then another song hit number 1, then it popped up to 1 for a week as well. So that's what I think is gonna happen here. Not sure what the Despacito killer will be, maybe Friends by Bieber will debut at number 1 for a week then fall and be replaced by Wild Thoughts or maybe it will be Taylor Swift, who knows. Wouldn't count out Unforgettable either -- while it has slowed down if given any type of extra push to help wth sales it could be in prime position to snatch #1 for a week or two. Maaaaaybe Bodak Yelliw could pull a Panda as well if it's streaming and sales increase a bit too.

If WT keeps falling, Despacito can shoot 20 weeks #1 lol The daily bullets for "WT" at Rhythmic and Urban have been negative for at least a week now, so this shouldn't be a surprise. The gains at Top 40 radio were what were lifting the song overall. Now that it's nearing the top at Top 40, its bullets there are going to decrease, which means they aren't enough to overcome the losses at Rhythmic and Urban.

If Despacito does break OSD's record, I don't think it will hold the title as long as Mariah and the Boyz did. I think we could see one or more 20+ week number one songs in the next 5 years.

Biggest 14-week #1s of all-time according to BB's Chart Beat Podcast:
1. I Gotta Feeling 2. Macarena 3. Uptown Funk 4. We Belong Together 5. I'll Make Love To You 6. Candle In The Wind 1997 7. I Will Always Love You 8. Despacito
So... Uptown Funk really is #9 all-time. Last time they updated the all-time charts, UF was #12 right behind We Belong Together.
Also, One Sweet Day is between I'll Make Love To You and CITW.

DJ Khalid is really doing his all to get another #1, the "#WildThoughtsChallenge" is a clever marketing decision, but will it work is the better question? I guess we'll see. 15 weeks is pretty much locked for Despacito, and I don't see any other challenger currently that will dethrone it before it ties One Sweet Day.
Wild Thoughts and Bodak Yellow seem to be the only current challengers, I don't have any faith in that new Bieber track, as people seem to be sick of him since I'm The One died quickly and 2U flopped. Unforgettable had some momentum, but it's sales are dying and it has peaked on airplay, so I don't see it getting past #3.

Luis Fonsi just performed Despacito on Good Morning America so he is not giving up that #1 position easily

If that "WT" challenge started mid-week, they must have been aiming for #1 this week, otherwise they would have started it next week and had all streams count toward the same week. Maybe they fear Bieber moving to #1 and figured this week was the best chance.

Post streaming being added in whatever year the Harlem Shake happened, we've had like 3 or 4 12 week number ones. 1 of which would've had 17 plus weeks if Paul Walker didn't die, one of which would've had 15 if the mannequin challenge was damn near any other song and the one we have now is looking like it could break the record. It's not hard to imagine honestly.

Since Google releases discounts first, the remixed Despacito, the version people listen to, currently has a discount on Google play. Which means it's coming to iTunes on Friday. Considering the first day from Friends is gonna be in this tracking week and that'll be when a majority of the sales will happen, 16 weeks is looking more and more likely.

I like that Fonsi and the label are pushing for the record. It's not like Fonsi is ever going to have a song this big and it's a chance to be in the record books, so why not give EVERYTHING you have to get it? I think the discount will definitely help push Week 16...I wonder if the news cycle of Despacito tying the all-time record will be enough to push streams/sales for the record breaking week?
