I personally think radio puts way too much emphasis on call outs. It’s an imprecise science and it’s what leads to us having such vanilla content on pop radio.

I always knew this wouldn't last long. It's a poor song + the public is skeptical of her now. But damn it's falling faster than anyone could have guessed.

Is this the longest thread for a song? 114 pages (so far) I asked that recently and someone told me Hold It Against me has like 300 pages, but I couldn't find the receipts.

How does this run compare to Chained To The Rhythm so far (longevity-wise)?

What does "purged" mean again? It's when songs that chart in the top 40 are removed from the chart if they fall out of the top 40 before 20 weeks. This is challenging to be gone by week 12. Shortest chart run for a #1 song that we've ever seen.

So I guess this song truly succeeded on hype. I'm shocked at how hard it is still falling after 2 weeks.

How does this run compare to Chained To The Rhythm so far (longevity-wise)? It seems similar (the unbullet is similar to this song's unbulket in its 10th week)

Shortest chart run for a #1 song that we've ever seen. Definitely - in the PPW era, anyway. On the current Billboard chart, which just came out, it falls 7-16 in just its tenth week on. If it's gone by next week (I'm thinking probably not), that will be the first #1 song to spend ten weeks since "Praying For Time" by George Michael (going by the Hot 100 before 11/30/91), almost exactly twenty-seven years ago A Actually, it will probably still be the shortest chart run since then, because in 1991, no #1 song spent less than 13 weeks in the Top 40 and then, of course, monitored airplay began in late 1991, at which time, #1 songs spending less than 20 weeks on (using Top 40 Radio Monitor and the Mainstream Top 40 chart) became quite rare.

I will be surprised if the song isn't gone by the November 25 chart - again, going by Billboard - that is, until my subscription runs out, at which time I'll jump on the Mediabase bandwagon. :)

I actually heard this song for the first time today (the only time I listen to the radio is in the car, and it's an 80s station). It sounded pretty good at first, but then quickly became a train wreck. I can see why it tanked so fast.

The gp and radio said bye It's still #20 on iTunes, so I would avoid making a sweeping statement about the GP.

Sinking faster than the titanic The gp and radio said bye It's still #20 on iTunes, so I would avoid making a sweeping statement about the GP. An obvious case where radio doesn't care about the sales or streaming and play whatever they want. Not that streaming is very strong but the song has been selling very well.

Thing is, this song spent several weeks on the top 10 of iTunes so we can't say the GP didn't connect to some extent to this. Radio on the other hand completely hated the song.

It's really interesting, actually, that this is performing relatively well in sales even though it's tanking in streaming and airplay. Really goes to show that each component has a different demographic. The people that download music really connected with this. The others not so much.

It is, but sales aren't really as indicative of what the GP likes as much as streaming in 2017 and she's only #50 on Spotify and #72 on Apple Music now. Better on YouTube though-#12.

At the end of the day, sales/touring are ultimately what matters most because they are normally the most profitable for an artist/band. If this single helps sell the album, it did its job. Sure radio charts are exhilarating to analyze/read, but it isn't the end all, be all. On the other hand, if radio never plays your song then you aren't building awareness, so that could be extremely detrimental to an album campaign. In this case, I think everyone and their mother is aware of Taylor, so that shouldn't be a huge problem here.
If my memory serves me correctly, in 2016, Beyoncé, Drake, Chris Stapleton, and Adele were the only artists to surpass 1 million copies sold in the calendar year. None of these artist were blazing the hot 100 or pop radio charts, nonetheless; they all sold extremely well considering the declining album sales environment.

Real time update: Taylor Swift - Look What You Made Me Do Top40/Pop: -682 Wow, I was half-joking when I said there would be nothing left by Thanksgiving. I didn’t expect it to increase the falling speed.
