I know - I was responding to the point about an exclusive deal with Apple.

The view counter for the lyric video must be broken. It's been stuck on 470K for a while now, did the Swift fans just break YouTube's view counter?

First, I wish she would have named the album: Sidewinder. I feel like it would have fit with the snake motif and it would aptly explain this album cycle. More importantly, I love that Taylor uses her critics' taunting/harsh remarks and turns their words into gold. In other words, I love how pragmatic she is.
The song is weird, but in a satisfying way. I feel like Taylor has been exceedingly self aware the last two album cycles. During 1989, she released Shake It Off, a catchy pop song that dispels the multitude of negative articles about her being a serial dater. With everything that happened last year, this song feels poignant and authentic. Her character was definitely maligned last year, and here she is coming for her atonement.
I am stoked for this new album.

The first time I heard the drop/chorus I thought it was the most grating thing possible, but after the second time I got used to it and I honestly really like this now. Like it's a really stupid petty clapback, but at the same time it goes pretty hard.
This is what Taylor needed to get that big #1 debut -- it has much more of an edge, which helps it fit in with the current pop stuff better, and there's likely to be a lot and controversy surrounding it, particularly the lyrics. I thought Taylor wouldn't debut at #1 but if anything can do it I think it'll be this. It's too early to tell if she actually will get that debut on top, but I'd say there's a good chance of it and at minimum it should debut at #2. However I could see this having a decent size tumble after a week or two (on everything but radio anyways) which will hopefully allow Despacito to get that 17th week, though I would prefer for this to just debut at #2 and then move up.

The music video should be interesting. The music and lyrics would allow a lot of room to play around visually.

The view counter for the lyric video must be broken. It's been stuck on 470K for a while now, did the Swift fans just break YouTube's view counter? No, YouTube always freezes view counts when a video is getting a lot of hits to ensure that bots aren't just refreshing the page. It's a way to ensure the view count numbers are authentic and exact. 470k is a typical number for it to freeze at. It will update in an hour or so with a new number to be frozen at. 301 views is also a typical frozen number view.

But that was a few years ago, and I haven't seen that again as of recently.

Already #1 on iTunes. Sure helps to have that exclusive Apple deal. I don't recall iTunes being updated this fast. It's on Spotify? Yes - on Spotify. I've already listened to it 5x. I was referring to whatever deal has with Apple - some component was exclusive. Anyway, Apple is definitely going to promote the heck of it.

I knew before I even logged in, that the main complaint here would be the "lack of chorus".
I feel Pop listeners like their music so bland, boring & the same. Same song structure. Same boring melodies. And are quick to say something doesn't have a chorus if it doesn't sound like the typical Barney sing-a-long stuff that plaques a lot of huge Pop singles like "Roar" or "We Are Never Getting Back Together". So many of these 30 year old women have been making music that just seems better suited for little girls IMO. And that's why there's always such a disconnect when many of them decide to "grow up". See: Katy Perry
I applaud Taylor for not falling into the same generic Pop trap that has plagued other artists' recent efforts.
It's edgy, it's theatrical, & more importantly, it's totally unexpected. I love that she used the beat from a scene in Mean Girls. And I love the Kill Bill feel in some of the lyrics. I feel like Taylor is always playing chess.
Can can we talk about that bridge? GEEZ! Chills!
Taylor just gets it.
But is this the type of song that will sell a crazy amount of albums? Not sure. Single 2 will likely feel more anthemic and what people are used to even if it does have a fresh spin on it.
Great comeback!

I...think I really like this? It's a jarring first listen, until I localized that it's the end of the second verse that was throwing me, and I really wish that was just cut from the song because whyyyy, but otherwise its catchy and edgy and sinister.
I heard it for the first time watching the lyric video, which is very successful.
Britney would have killed this, too.

Maybe the video, similar with Hotline Bling, which I believe was also on Spotify at the time But she already got lyrics on YouTube, so the video might as well go directly there, especially if it premieres at VMAs

I hope she goes crazy dark for the video.

Like this a lot. From structural point of view it's not any different to her other lead singles but love the Lorde vibes in the verses.

According to Wikipedia, this song classes as Dance-pop and urban pop. I think a better choice would be pop-trap.

Was this produced by Jack Antonoff? (That's what it says right now on Wikipedia).

Uhhh... at that tour merch tho. We sell snake rings like that by Thalia Sodi for less than $10 that look 100 times better. According to Wikipedia, this song classes as Dance-pop and urban pop. I think a better choice would be pop-trap. The drums also remind me of Miami Bass and Latin Freestyle, particularly during the chorus. I think it's a good mixture of all those styles.

This is the kind of song that's really easy to hate if you hate Taylor. And one that's really easy to love if you love Taylor. I feel like this can be said for each of her leads since We Are Never... They all play around her persona, singular as each one is, and they all have some sort of quirk that could be considered polarizing. But her approach is known too, I forget which publication it was, but when Ed Sheeran's second album was coming out, he said it was Taylor who pushed him towards releasing Sing first because of how jarring it was, not in spite of it.

The "chorus" is totally Black Eyed Peas.
EDIT: I guess it is Right Said Fred. Never realized how much BEP ripped off Right Said Fred on numerous tracks, LOL.

1 Taylor Swift - Look What You Made Me Do 1.0000
Despacito - 0.1422 + 0.0699
The latter has no chances.

I'm annoyed that Max Martin seemingly had nothing to do with this. I wanted him to have a #1 in 2017 - he's had at least one every year from 2008 to 2016.
