LMAO. This song is not good. Nothing like her 1989 singles, which were at least somewhat decent pop. This is a borefest, goes nowhere and it seems like I'm hearing some demo from The Black Eyes Peas back in 2005. And I'm living for the mixed reactions this is getting on Twitter even from Taylor superfans. It must be hard to pretend not to hate the song you have been anticipating for years. How can people who genuinely love this song pretend not to hate it?

Honestly it's pretty obvious that a lot of this song is about her groping case. The Radio guy sued her and she was forced to counter sue to go widespread with the sexual assault- aka LWYMMD. Go through the lyrics and view it from that prism.

I'd take a good old fashioned MM melodic chorus anyday over a I'm Too Sexy/Me Too sounding chorus. People like pop music because they want to SING to it Then go dust off 1989 and listen to it, sis. Available now on all streaming platforms. Thanks for proving my point. I don't understand the whole "people that like pop music have bad taste" attitude that certain people have.... like..... every known rock song, every known R&B song, every known hip-hop/rap song, every known alternative song, every known country song, every known 'pure pop' song are all just pop songs. Granted, the examples you gave in your original post are some of the more generic outputs, but the most impactful and loved songs were all pop songs back in their heyday, whether it was released in 1960 or 2011. A good melody is a good melody. Melody is the universal language of the world!

I'm pretty sure tilted stage means that they put her on a pedastal hoping for her to fall. Not a literal tilted stage at a tour. Oh for sure, all the lyrics mean something pertaining to herself. But I also think most of the lyrics were meant to be a lowkey jab at Kimye at the same time. The next line after tilted stage is "the role you made me play of the fool" so she's probably still sore about being set up by Kanye and all his hidden cameras. The folks at genius.com seem to think differently and interpret every lyric as a swipe at Katy though. Who knows. I just know this song was a mess. Meanwhile I don't think it is either of these. When I finished listening, I thought it was all about newspapers and articles online and how they obsesses over her and portray her in the media. Maybe this confusion over who it could be was intentional to spark conversation. Bad Blood and Swish Swish were both obvious

I was instantly sold on that pre-chorus and was like "Damn this is hot! She will murder everyone again!" and then that chorus came on... wow that BLOWS. I was wondering why on earth it sounds like that novelty song "I'm Too Sexy For My Shirt" of all things, and then saw it actually samples it. But anyway, this will go #1 everywhere and she will have songs I'll be able to get into on the album, I'm sure, so do your thing, girl, slay on!

This is intruguingly odd song she released so far. Its catchy tho.
Oke where is timeless btw? Did they change the lead single that supposed to be timeless?

On first listen, this is kinda cute but that chorus isn't doing it for me. I prefer the verses and the pre-chorus.
I can't take her, or this song, seriously, though, because this whole "I'm a good girl gone bad because of how unfairly treated me" act is too forced and too contrived to my taste.

I do like this and I'll no doubt be jamming to it after more listens. But it definitely has issues. Love the production, the verses are on point, the pre-chorus is so good (Lorde is ALL OVER that pre-chorus). But I have to agree with previous posters, the chorus reeks. There's something to be said for the power of repetition, there have been countless songs that make it work. This one does not and it falls completely flat. The bridge is also way too repetitive and limp as well. And I feel like she's going for blistering and it's just coming up lukewarm. But I'm sure her diehards will be all "this is so edgy Becky, Dark Phoenix TAY TAY!"
This is clearly going to come out of the gate big. But I see it crashing fairly early in it's run and not having much longevity. This sounds like the kind of song that wears out it's welcome very quickly.
*edit* How did I forget to mention the spoken part? That's a NOPE from me.

This is intruguingly odd song she released so far. Its catchy tho. Oke where is timeless btw? Did they change the lead single that supposed to be timeless? No way, if not the lyric video proving that this was always supposed to be first (and the video preview coming tomorrow), that #TGIT ad for ABC looks like it was made weeks (if not days) ago since the song matches perfectly with it (which I have seen others say, as well as some saying it changed their opinion on it). I can't take her, or this song, seriously, though, because this whole "I'm a good girl gone bad because of how unfairly treated me" act is too forced and too contrived to my taste. I don't think that the bad girl sound/look is supposed to be taken seriously, though. The only word I can describe it is 'cute'. Kind of like when a small dog attempts to take on big dogs/out bark them. I think Taylor knows that too. The lyrics are way too playful and jokey for her to seriously think she is a bad girl now.
Probably no one is going to agree with these comparisons (so please be calm with the dragging), but the way the song is sung reminds me of: Intro/pre-chorus: E.T. by Katy Perry Chorus: That's What I Like by Bruno Mars 1:41: Formation by Beyoncé ("I got hot sauce in my bag")

This gets better with each listen. A+ hook. Can't believe she went with something this risky. Very bold and aggressive.

The lyrics are...not great. Pick a metaphor and run with it Taylor. The melody is lazy and the lyrics are too try hard. Like, this could be a Bella Thorne song everybody would laugh at. So this will probably be a multiweek #1 for Taylor.

I love that she's just diving 100% into this new crazy girl persona. It wouldn't work without her going in completely. Getting this song as the TGIT anthem is awesome and fits perfectly with the themes of Scandal and HTGAWM.
The chorus is still a letdown but I'm really enjoying this.

I absolutely love it tbh. Already stuck in my head. It's a cross between Britney and Lorde with its own Taylor spin. Her self awareness has reached new heights. I'm expecting an epic and sarcastic Blank Space esque video. I'm here for all of it.

Me no likey the chorus. Everything else is cool though. The verses are great.
I am really tired of the Taylor Swift "you done me wrong" songs however. She is the perpetual victim. Eh.
I guess this is a new angle on the same schtick?

Codex and I came up with like two dozen songs and artists it reminds us of including Lorde, Fergie, Britney and Avril. Wasn't particularly fond of the chorus, but the amazing pre-chorus and the bridge made up for it.
