Please don't lie and act like it didn't take everyone at least ten listens before they understood the genius of "Call Me Maybe". Genius?

This is my least favorite single by her tbh It sounds like something from a Disney soundtrack. More I listen to this, more I can imagine it lol. This song really fits with disney film series.

Now that I think about it, it does kind of fit for a villain theme song as well. It sounds like something off of Descendants now that I think about it.

How many times do you guys hear some random song you don't like on first listen but give it a second, third, maybe lucky seventh attempt until it clicks? It's probably paid dust and that's that. Taylor is so lucky that people keep TRYING to like her heinous song. Generally speaking, this always has annoyed me. Some artists get that privilege over others.

I am still deeply traumatized by that song from hearing it so much at Abercrombie & Fitch and Express during the Summer it was out. I still can't believe it's by the same artist that went ton to give us such bops as "Gimme Love", "Let's Get Lost", and "Run Away With Me."

Sorry, I can't at this, because I'm assuming this person is very likely on team Kanye, yet they clearly need to be reminded that Kanye ACTUALLY PHYSICALLY AND METAPHORICALLY EMBRACED and endorsed Donald Trump in the lobby of the Trump Tower in New York, which was overwhelmingly covered by the media, soon after he got out of the loony bin!!!!!

How many times do you guys hear some random song you don't like on first listen but give it a second, third, maybe lucky seventh attempt until it clicks? It's probably paid dust and that's that. Taylor is so lucky that people keep TRYING to like her heinous song. I get the general point of this post, but that's sort of the benefit of having a large fanbase and celebrity. If you know that they will likely hear your song, and especially your first single, more than once, it's pretty much the best time to release a track that you may consciously consider polarizing yourself. That doesn't mean that it will ultimately fall on the side of being more liked than disliked, but if that's the route you want to play, there's pretty much no better option for it. I certainly don't get, and will likely never get, people re-listening to songs over and over to force themselves to like it from any artist if they know they really dislike it at once, but giving a second listen to a track that you were waiting for and threw you off is different imo. That said, for myself personally, Taylor's never been the type to have songs "grow" on me. Every track I've really liked from her, I had done so from the first listen. And the ones that never hit largely stayed the same. I was super excited for her proper foray into Pop, but Shake It Off leaves me as cold as it did on the first listen. I don't dislike it in the traditional sense, but it still makes me feel absolutely nothing. And likewise, I was never crazy about YBWM when it was out and that stayed the same too. And whenever people said they pissed the Country stuff, I remembered how boring I thought Tim McGraw and Teardrops On My Guitar were and still do as much as I did then. The closest track she had to a grower for me was Blank Space, which I thought was empty on the first several listens, but gradually my opinion of it went up, and even then it's nowhere near one of my favorites. Meanwhile, on more than one occasion, I have told people to stfu when We Are Never... was on so I could Becky out so there's that. It all goes back to her being polarizing, it's not necessarily a bad thing if you're aware of it and smart about it.

The Beyonce slander in this thread is hilarious. The privilege is so amusing. This. Her music hasn't resonated? She's irrelevant? I can't buy that anyone is truly that ignorant. There is some straight up trolling going on here. On the topic of this song, it's certainly...interesting. I definitely hear the BEP comparisons. It's a bit cringeworthy, but maybe there's some reason for that? I can't take the "bad girl" image seriously at all, but Taylor is calculated enough that I feel like she must be "in on the joke" (especially since she sampled "I'm Too Sexy" of all things). If not, this is a strangely tone deaf effort (both the song and the image we've seen so far). Or maybe she's just gone off the deep end and this is what she wants to do now. All of it has definitely generated a lot of discussion, at least. I'm not much of a fan, but I'm curious to see what's coming next. So I guess it's all working for her so far. Edit: Forgot to mention how fucking extra that spoken bridge is. That makes three consecutive lead singles now, and they're all grating to some degree. I just realized that she tends not to put out her best material first. "Blank Space" is much better than "Shake It Off" (which is okay) and "Trouble" is MILES ahead of "We Are Never" (which is still horrid). I'm sure her next single will be more melodic and radio friendly.

Yeah, this got really annoying really quick. It's just so immature and forced, I feel like she's trying waaaaay too hard to come across as a bad girl, which is emphesized by the awful bridge (I'm sorry, it was cool the first few times but it makes me cringe now). At the rate she's going, she'll probably swing naked on a wrecking ball shaped like Katy's head for her next single.

I believe in giving songs more than one chance before you can ever truly form an opinion on it.
On that note, on my second listen I'm still not sure what to think about it. There's parts I like but the chorus so far has mehed on me.

This post is biased, prejudiced, and insensitive to those with metal illness and affliction. ^ Glove Slap I don't understand. Were you offended by my use of the term "loony bin," or are you saying the endorsement of Trump was due to his mental illness and thus not genuine or real? It's possible the latter is true, but let me first of all say that I can definitely assure you that you DO NOT NEED TO LECTURE ME about mental illness. Secondly, we can't know for sure the status of his mental health and what behaviors were attributable to it; we haven't seen his medical records nor do we know all of his diagnoses, whether it be Bipolar Disorder, a Psychotic disorder, Axis I, Axis II, etc., so we would have to at least consider taking the endorsement at face value and view an endorsement as an endorsement. Maybe my choice of the term "loony bin" was insensitive, I didn't mean to use it so much as an attack on Kanye for being "crazy," but more I wanted to focus on his supposed endorsement of Trump and to catch @iamsashakae in their hypocrisy and that Kanye is not exactly this moral beacon of social justice and he is nowhere near prejudice-free himself (he has many homophobic lyrics, etc.)

So people and critics are getting caught off guard on what to expect from a Taylor Swift song nowadays.Every era for Taylor has been different in her career. Let Taylor have the records that she is breaking today. This is already a hit right out of the gate,There is no way this is gonna pull a "Focus" which had not only had Ariana Grande fans divided,it also had non-fans of Ariana not liking the song.

The critics seem to be ripping this song apart for various reasons.
I also noticed alot of people are forcing themselves to like it or try to. Some of the comments on on atrl are hilarious. "If you listen to it 30 times it starts to get better".
I don't see this holding up well after the hype is over. It does sound halloween ish so that might help. I also notice a Meghan Trainer feeling in the chorus even though it doesn't really have one.
This is my least liked single of hers.

Beyoncé hasn't had a big hit since Drunk in Love like 5 years ago...lol True.. but all of Lemonade's 12 songs charted last year, with the highest 'Sorry' 'Formation' at #10. Sorry, I came on kind of aggressive there. If you were just stating your opinion then I apologize. But it sounded like you were saying Beyoncé wasn't relevant anymore so I had to say something lol. Sorry charted in the top 10 for one week (the week the album released) then bombed out of the top 20...much like every Nicki single released post 2012 lol

The reason I don't consider Taylor to be copying the Formation video with that group scene is because Taylor herself has done something like that before (3:08 in Bad Blood, 2015). I'm sure there are also many other videos by big artists that can be found in the last ten years with similar poses, and it's not like that is some original pose/layout of people that was only newly invented

There's been a HUUUUUUGGGGE interest towards this, the lyric video ALONE has way over 20m views already. So whether its success is short lived or not, it's going to be another #1 for her in several markets

I did see an article about this though - I think it was at The AV Club, that the song kind of sounds like something a Disney Villain would sing, and with that in mind, I can totally hear it once listening again. The lyrics are pretty juvenile and petty and I could easily see like Ursula in the Little Mermaid singing this, or some like 13-year old Sofia Carson-type Disney flop singing it for Descendants 2 or something. The thing with Tayor's writing is that it IS good, yet can also come off immature at the same time.

And then, with all that streaming, and all that sales, rockets to #1.

First of all, What on earth does privilege have to do with anything? God, I'm sick and tired of Beyonce stans using race as an excuse for everything and I say that as a black man.
Second, Beyonce did not hop on any trend with RTW. That song is terrible imo but it was completely different to the type of dance songs dominating at the time as was BTINH and the whole 4 album so let's not be delusional. Drunk In Love did fine on Pop and would've gone Top 10 had the 4 era been a bigger hit there, I still believe that she can get big hits but her songs are either not commercial enough or she purposely sabotages her songs for some reason so she clearly doesn't care and is doing fine without them.
Third, I find the Meghan Trainor comparison bizarre because people are acting like she has her own original sound that Taylor was inspired by when this is more Gwen Stefani-ish if anything. Anyway, this is disappointing to me as I really wanted Taylor come back hard with a Pop smash but this is just all over the place. Hopefully the 2nd single is much better.

The chorus definitely does sound like Meghan though, if even just purely Taylor's voice.

This song is sick!
I literally cannot stop playing it. I love absolutely everything about it. The production is fire! I'm anticipating the music video, because from the preview, it looks just as amazing. Loving this reinvention of her sound and image.
And the Beyoncé debate was painful to read. I hate to see black women torn apart for their lack of Pop hits, because I can count on one hand, not even using all of my fingers, the number of black women even allowed (yes, allowed) to rack them up. And it's even more a of a slap in the face to question this black woman's relevance or the quality of her material based on not getting CHR spins. Especially after Lemonade was the highest selling album worldwide in 2016 with a tour that grossed almost $250 million. Not to mention the album was critically acclaimed and moved & empowered people to tears. Even to the point, the white woman who won Album Of The Year over her, broke her Grammy in half & said she doesn't deserve it. But that's a whole different topic that I don't feel like breaking down or debating.
So, yeah... just stop mentioning Beyoncé. While some of your CHR faves are breaking down in live streamed therapy studio sessions over feeling like they've sold their souls, she gets to sleep peacefully at night knowing power rotation at Z100 is irrelevant to her album rollout.
