Well, it's really time to make $.69 the main price now Nope. While it will show a spike in sales initially, it will plateau and go back to normal. The reason songs spike when they get put on sale is because people see it as a deal. If all songs are that way, it's no longer a deal, and people won't feel as compelled to purchase the song. Advertising 101, essentially. Make people assume they're getting a good deal, and they'll purchase your product. Look at any song that was $0.69 for the vast majority of its run. It saw a spike for a week or two after it hit the discount, but once the newness of the sale went away, they all went back to selling what everyone else was selling. Basically, overall, the sales will spike and settle a bit higher than what they are now, but because of the settling portion of that trend, profits will actually be lower than what they are now if they were to make $0.69 the default. Now, if it was reduced to $0.99 with $0.69 sales still available, that's a different story.

But most songs discounted would prob be charting lower if it was $1.29. Placing higher on iTunes is what most people are trying to accomplish with that now I believe

I call it the Bootylicious effect, a song is discounted on iTunes just to get to #1, just like Bootylicious did in the early days back in the 2000s.

Well if she's not going to promote, this is the least her team could do. Good call.

It looks like Nick Jonas' new song might be going the route of $0.69 for its entire run

And good for Taylor for the discount might as well. She has never got streaming points before and that is a huge get for her. The team is not dumb. They know what they are doing. I'm just surprised about Reafy for It. But now I'm not?

I'm pretty sure he meant cd single, Mariah also did that for Loverboy (managed to reach #2). The single sales were in decline but fanbase purchases still existed so it was "easy" way to get more chart points for those acts who had a big and loyal fanbase. So it's not that different to the situation we have now with downloads vs. streaming

So it's not that different to the situation we have now with downloads vs. streaming I don't think so. He said "the early days". I took that as iTunes. "Bootylicious" had a discount just like "loverboy" did to get to #1. I didn't even bother to mention that because the username is all taylor swift. I personally would call it the Mariah. Just because discounted singles happened years ago when they were still physical. This person has no idea what they are talking about. iTunes wasn't there for Loverboy. iTunes started in 2004.

It doesn't change the point though? - that Bootylicious was discounted because label wanted it to be #1 and they saw the possibility.
I don't think that's anything worth attacking...

Yeah I assumed the person just misspoke and meant cd single instead of itunes. But yeah, discounting songs to get to #1 or to get more traction is a tale as old as time in the music industry. If the opportunity exists, then it will be taken lol. I hope this at least goes top 3, but damn radio seems really invested in Ready for It already.

Seems like radio is already dropping it? Other than AC, which is slow as shit and isn't really a good format for this song anyway, it's still increasing in spins on all of the other formats. Radio isn't dropping it yet.

Oh, for sure, it's not gonna go much further on Hot AC, which is okay since this doesn't sound like anything Hot AC would get behind if it were by anybody else. The bullet on pop actually increased today, which might be a sign of a second wind? I'm not really holding my breath, but we've seen stranger things (returning this October to Netflix). I still think this will get blocked from #1 in the shuffle of Slow Hands, Strip That Down, and Feel It Still, even if it does get a second wind. The second wind just might push it enough to reach #2 instead of #3 or #4.

It debuted with 200k less than her previous lead single. I don't think the number was that unimaginable. Yes, but the streaming & radio numbers were still huge. Remember that we're in the streaming era. 353k is not a lot compared to Taylor's past releases but it still is big. Also important to note the only higher recent debuts were hello & cant stop the feeling. And look what made you do would've likely had a stronger debut week than can't stop the feeling if the pre orders for The album weren't so strong, which is a good problem to have. When she's debuting second to only Adele her selling 200k less this time really isn't a problem when you analyze sales trends as a whole

The shade of it all. lol A good old sales manipulation 90's war. lol Sometimes if a label wanted one song to reach the top they would cut the single out of the stores etc to allow their other artist to reach the top. lol Holding back sales until a song was 6-8 weeks into it's radio run etc etc. There were a a few in the 90's. lol

What's happening... We all knew this would happen someday but THIS EARLY? The song is 30 days old. :(
I hope single #2 is less polarizing & more radio friendly. I want it to top "Blank Space" but we all know that ain't happening.
