I think this is going to tank badly when there is a new radio single. I doubt this could be top 20 if it was the promo tbh I feel optimistic. I like RFI and it's only the promo. It would make sense to have something better as the actual single

I remember gloating when songs or artists I didn't like couldn't ride the promo wave to #1 on pop. I think today, with the video views, digital downloads, and much shorter lifespan of songs, that it isn't nearly the big deal it used to be. Huge interest in Taylor Swift, and missing #1 at pop after having it in the Hot 100 really won't hurt her at all.
And those artists and songs I dissed? They are still played today. By and large if you hit the top 10 or 5, it's a cemented hit with longevity over time. There are a few notable exceptions, but not many.
All that to say this hysteria over stalling etc really won't affect Taylor or her fan base. For the record I do not like this song. But I acknowledge it is huge in spite of my opinion.

Portugal is only 2300 points away. But Logic is in the same distance from Portugal, which means that Logic might pass both songs for no 1.

They're probably rushing to shoot a video for "ready For It?" right now. Nah, I'd guess that one stays a promo single (with a crazy peak). I think they sent that out to catch Taylor f/stans who weren't feeling the lead single and bolster more interest in the album. I expect a less polarizing, insta-catchy track to serve as a proper second single a la "Blank Space" or "I Knew You Were Trouble" close to the album release date.

People who are currently worried about this era or the quality of the album need to remember we didn't even hear the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th singles from 1989 until release date.

Is supposed to be a "Welcome to New York" then there probably will be. Im so excited. I think "Ready for It" is supposed to be the "Out of the Woods." They probably have/had a clear cut second single choice in mind (a la "I Knew You Were Trouble"/"Blank Space").

#18 on Spotify, soon to be overtaken by Macklemore of all people. Interesting I must say. This really started high in numbers but has then behaved like a promo single by Future or Drake. 10 days at #1 and it took only 20 days to drop this far.

The whole 'it did what it was supposed to do' argument makes no sense at all. ANY song she decided to release as the lead single post-1989 would do what it was supposed to do too, meaning going #1 on all official charts and break records based on hype alone. This is definitely a huge underperformance on pop radio and I consider all first 5 singles from 1989 bigger hits than this.

So the premature death begins, the damage from RFI has already been done. Nice job screwing this up, Team Swift. :sip2:

Pretty obvious what happened here -- people were exciting for new Taylor, had massive hype, but once the dust settled, people just really aren't feeling it *as* much as a typical new Taylor first single.

I find it funny that Taylor is so huge that a hit as big as this is what is considered an underperformance for her

Yeah I don't get some arguments here in terms of this song's performance. Taylor is at the peak of her (pop) career. 1989 was as huge an era as it could be. Just like Fame, Teenage Dream, 21. Her debut single was expected to be huge. So yeah she has the same insane expectations as Gaga, Katy, Adele had.
This is turning out to be much closer to Hold It Against Me. Great visuals, sort of a new sound for her, high initial impact and then quick fizzling. I won't be surprised if it starts to show a huge weekly decrease stat. The fact that this barely has been out for a month is concerning. I can't see why this IS what it was supposed to do. At this point this won't even be top 20 for the yearend chart. And I do feel that RFI is a culprit as it diverted attention from this. Anyway. Good luck to her, even though I'm not too fond of the start of this era. It just has a negative aura to me that I'm not digging. The attitude, persona, even the whole video, and her limited but effective singing being more replaced by talk-singing and Becky rapping are just not what I was expecting this era... Hope there are better bops as next singles...

Hope there are better bops as next singles... It all boils down to how well the album sells. It takes more than just a song that radio will play to sell albums these days. The drama and controversy with this song and its video sparked a lot of interest. “Taylor releases a smash hit single” isn’t as attention-grabbing as “Taylor’s song SHADES this and that.” I’m not saying this will automatically translate to huge album sales, but we just have to wait, don’t we?
