Official Country Rankdown Thread

Since the 2010 year-end and the 2000s decade-end rankdowns appear to have not been claimed yet or been done, could I claim them? And yes, add them to the queue on the first page.

Also, is there any decision on who will be hosting this year's year-end rankdown?

I’m all for additional rankdowns but considering we’ve already started to see fewer participants due to what is likely rankdown fatigue I just ask that anyone who is about to launch a rankdown to keep in mind the current ones open for submission and their respective due dates.

That said I’m really looking forward to Clay Walker’s and I’m all in for someone doing an album series for Shania Twain! I have no interest in listening to Luke Bryan’s albums so that one can be put off for a long while hopefully lol.

The 2010 rankdown is currently being done. Sabre14 is in the middle of reveals :) As far as I know, no decade-end rankdowns have been claimed yet! However, there are a few years in each decade that still need to be done before we are ready to do decade-end rankdowns. For the 2000s it is 2000-2001 (both of which are claimed by castleoblivion26), and for the 2010s it is 2011-2012 (claimed by sabre14), and then 2019 obviously. I am the consistent host of the modern year-end rankdowns, so the plan is for me to do 2019 :)

If you want to claim a 00s decade-end, I am totally okay with that (as long as you turn out to be a reliable host! Lol), but I think it should wait until castle has a chance to finish 2000-2001. Out of curiosity, if you do a decade end, how do you think you would do it? Something like taking the top 10 for each rankdown from that decade, or do you have other ideas?

so I'm gonna ask that is if we could slow down on opening rankdowns and having them due within the next month or two that would be great. As tim already mentioned we've had a few opened recently and many of us are getting burnt out on them. It isn't all just about whether or not you can do it but also if the people on the board will participate. There are already quite a few rankdowns due within Nov and Dec and this is a very busy time of the year for a lot of us. I have one or two small rankdowns I wanted to have due in Dec that are Christmas related and I think there are a couple others as well that plan to so please keep that all in mind.

Smaller rankdowns I think are okay but any that are over 20 songs should not be due before Jan in my opinion.

I've actually been thinking a lot about this. I had set the due date for the first Luke Combs album rankdown for December 7, but the deluxe edition (which is the edition being ranked) is 17 tracks. It's less than 20 songs but not by much at all, and like you said it is very busy as it's winding down to the holiday season, and everyone is either busy or going to be busy with holiday planning and traveling and/or focusing on schoolwork (like I'm trying to do). By December 7, I will be preparing for finals for the semester. Also there are lots of these things going on in the next two months.

So I think that I might change the due date to after the holiday rush so that everyone who is interested can actually join.

ETA: The deadline has officially been changed to Friday, January 10, 2020 (holy smokes is it really gonna be 2020 next year my GOD what is time)

Yes, I completely understand the concerns here.

Aside from the rankdown redos I'm planning on doing, it will probably be until after the holiday season when I open up anything else.

I actually think this is a great idea. For the time being we should wait on opening any rankdowns that have a due date for this calendar year and since the holidays are right around the corner it would be best to hold off on doing the larger ones for 2020 (something about typing that still doesn’t seem quite right!). I currently have one rankdown with a due date of Nov. 1st but it’s already been open for submissions for quite some time and a Lorrie Morgan rankdown due Dec. 1st but I’m actually thinking of pushing that back to February 1st. All this to say that the last two months of the year might be a good time to slow down on having larger rankdowns due especially considering we always have the YE one to do.

I had full-body chills when I typed it for my rankdown's new due date! This decade seems to have flown faster with every year!

Say what you guys want, but I am still going to have the next round of Reba and George albums due in November! Y'all are pretty used to my pace by now though ;) I would be willing to extend Toby Keith if I need to, but we'll see how that looks as the deadline gets closer. For now it seems to be pretty well spaced from the other large rankdowns.

My George Strait Christmas rankdown will be 30 songs because I am doing all of his Christmas albums in one rankdown, but I imagine that one will only have 5 or 6 of his biggest fans participate anyway, so I won't feel bad throwing that one at you guys before the new year ;) I have been wanting to do Christmas rankdowns for Faith and one Reba album as well, but I can potentially scale back if it looks like I need to. Right now they would all fit in on my normal album schedule, so I don't think people would be too overwhelmed.

But yes, I completely agree that we might not want to have any larger rankdowns due between now and the new year!

Also, just for everyone's reference, it will be time for another round of Best of the Best/Revenge of the Best very shortly after the new year... I've considered not doing that again, because of all the complaining about the results of the last one, but if there is enough interest I will do it again! This set is promising to be more diverse so far, which might make it more interesting. There are more album series, so the bulk contributions of individual artists are not as noticeable!

Ohhh that’s right! There’s going to be quite a few artists that shake things up like Mark Chesnutt, Suzy Bogguss, Tracy Byrd, and the two you mentioned. I think I already know what my #1 will be though ;)

I know that this is probably a lot to put into the queue and if I were to host it, it wouldn't be opened anytime soon (definitely between February to May at the latest so QUITE a way off), but I'm left kinda stunned that Jake Owen, who just released his sixth album this year, hasn't shined with any rankdown. If anyone would be interested, I'd like to host his own album series, or if someone else is interested in hosting it, I'd definitely be down for that! (Because I don't wanna hog the artists  )

I think Jake Owen would be great down the road. Not to be a downer but we have quite a few album series going currently (I know 3 of them I am hosting, foolishly I might add lol). I think some of those need to be finished before more are started. I've tried keeping up with them all and somehow messed up and missed out on the Sara Evans Slow Me Down rankdown because it has been difficult staying on top of all of them (granted I do think this time of year is playing a part in that).

just an update for everyone else on my rankdowns. I will be closing submissions for Gretchen Peters soon so if you haven't submitted for that time is running out on that. Next rankdowns will be the Christmas album for Lee Ann Womack. I want to do Pam Tillis' because I don't think her series will last until next Christmas so I'd like to get that one done this year as well. That will be what is due this fall from me.

For next year starting in either Jan or Feb I want to restart the album series for Patty Loveless, Pam Tillis, and Lee Ann Womack. I will also be adopting bboat11's strategy with the George Strait albums and doing 2 at a time so we can finish those sooner than later. I will probably ONLY do these rankdowns for the time being but that could change between now and then as I do have the 2000 and 2001 rankdowns to do and I'd like to restart my Journey series at some point. Also I have Brothers Osborne, The Wilkinsons, and Collin Raye(?) in the pipeline.

Anyways, just my 2 cents. I've gotten a little burnt out on rankdowns myself so that is why I slowed down on all of mine this year, hope that I can get back into the swing of things next year!

I know that a Tanya Tucker rankdown is in the queue, but not sure about a While I'm Livin' album rankdown. I'd be happy to do it, since it's her current album and is getting a lot of attention, but wouldn't want to step over what is already in place.

Nobody has shown interest in hosting any of Tanya's albums, so I'm assuming you would be more than welcome to do that one if you would like! Unless anybody else has any objections?

Have you considered doing Trisha's new album too by any chance? As the one who hosted her singles rankdown, I think you should have first dibs on any of her albums :)

Considering how many of her peers have been having their albums explored on Pulse lately, it would make sense :) But even if you can't commit to a whole album series, I think one for her new one would be really fun! Lol

I've seen people express interest in that happening every once in awhile since her singles rankdown happened. Since the host to her album series disappeared, I'm pretty sure any future Carrie rankdowns could be considered up for grabs! I intend to wait a few months to see if she gets any other singles off of Cry Pretty, but I think by late spring/early summer that could be a good one for people to look forward to

(Unless an extension ends up being in order--it's quite understandably a very busy time right now or at least coming up and I want everyone who wishes to participate a chance to do so.)
