Since she only has two albums, I was actually thinking we should just do a Lauren Alaina RD consisting of her 26 total recorded songs (12 on debut + 12 on RLT + "History" + "Barefoot & Buckwild"). That's what we did for Kacey Musgraves. I'm in more support of this. Especially since it'll be a long while before we get new music from her. well I liked the idea of doing a single album to just do a smaller rankdown but I could do both albums if that is what people really wanted, I'm game, just might be a little bit before I get to it though

I think we should keep the album rankdowns to newer artists who only have one record to rank, or for the artist series" like what bboat11's planning to do w/ Martina. I don't personally think it's a great idea to do random album RDs from artists before they've had a full singles RD if they're an act with enough songs to do one -- like Lady Antebellum and Sugarland, i.e. since they were brought up.

I agree with this, at least for now. With everyone laying claim to albums today, I have been wondering how to update the queue, and tbh it just feels like a situation that has potential to spiral out of control and feel disorganized. An album series for an artist that has already had an official rankdown makes sense, because it allows people who enjoyed that rankdown to delve into that artist's discography even further. IMO laying claim to random albums though will cause people to start stepping on each other's toes, because as we have already seen today people are going to start firing off ideas, and then the next thing we know there will be 30 albums on the queue with different people wanting to start theirs all at the same time. I am organization-oriented, mind you, so others may not agree with this, but I personally feel really satisfied when we have artist rankdowns that honor an artist's full set of singles, or entire career if that should be the purpose of the rankdown. Like, it just would not feel right to me if somebody only did Lauren's new album, ignoring the beginning part of her career which would be REALLY easy to include in the same rankdown since she only has two albums in her career. Sure they could plan to get to the first album eventually, but with 30 different albums in the queue it would be easy for that to be forgotten for awhile, and then the career of Lauren Alaina is not properly recognized. So for example, I think that zaclord 🌈's Maren Morris Hero idea is really good, because it is basically honoring her full career up to this point. But if somebody hosts a random Sugarland album rankdown right now, the career of Sugarland would feel like it is being approached in a disjointed, haphazard way because a singles rankdown has not been completed for them yet. Unless somebody plans to do a Sugarland album series and just forego a singles rankdown for now. Anyway, that's must my 2 cents. I feel like we do a great job of keeping the country rankdowns organized, and I am all for doing more albums, but I do think they need to have some kind of organizing theme to keep them more controlled than just throwing random albums at the wall and seeing who wants to host them.

^ I agree with everything you said. I also think it kinda takes some of the mystery and fun of doing a career-spanning singles RD if it comes after some or even all of an act's albums have been done. Like the natural order imo would be to do the full singles RD and then after that delve into the albums, like what's happening with Martina now. I don't plan to do any more album RDs from Sara Evans until I do a 'full' one for all her singles/charted songs/etc.
I like the idea of doing RDs for new artists who only have 1 record to their name though, like Maren Morris, because obviously we're not gonna have enough singles to do a big career-spanning type of thing for a long time, but in the event of Kacey Musgraves, or the upcoming one for Kelsea Ballerini, a 2-album RD is pretty perfect since it's usually a very doable 25 or so songs.

Yassss, so excited for this! The only thing is, I think castleoblivion26 had talked awhile ago about doing a Jo Dee Messina rankdown, but I believe he suggested Jo Dee Messina and Patty Loveless and Pam Tillis all at the same time, and I don't remember if he actually had plans of hosting all three or if he was just throwing ideas out there... I know he has a busy rankdown schedule now though, so hopefully he would be fine with this?

I like to just decide what feels right at the time once my previous rankdown finishes. Queuing up a half dozen ideas for the future doesn't do much good imo.

Yeah, I think I remember not adding them to the queue because I told him to let me know once he knew for sure he wanted to host them. I feel ya though on just doing what feels right at the time. I tend to operate the same way, but I put myself on the queue for George and Reba because I REALLY want to be the one to host those ones Lol

I did want to host the Jo Dee Messina one because I love her music and her albums but I could do an album rankdown series some time down the road if you want to do the main big rankdown for her. I threw out those ideas but am okay with anyone taking any of them first if anyone wants them

If it hasn't been selected yet you can queue me up for the 1996 rankdown. It'll be sometime around the beginning of 2018 before I start it up since we have quite a lot lined up lol.

It's time to talk about George Strait! I have created the rankdown list, and it is 100 songs... But I want to bounce some ideas around with you guys and get an idea of what your thoughts are. I am willing to try different ideas here. -Option 1: Open the thread with the full 100-song list posted. Set the deadline for December 1 and hope people slog through the whole list by then. -Option 2: Open the thread and roll out the songs 5-per-day, like castleoblivion26 has done for the 1998 rankdown. Deadline would still be December 1. -Option 3: Break it up into 3 decade-specific George Strait rankdowns. The 1980s, the 1990s, and 2000-present. Then it would be 3 smaller rankdowns of 27, 36, and 37 songs, respectively. -Option 4: Split it into a #1s rankdown followed by a rankdown of the rest of his singles. Then it would be 60 songs in one and 40 in the other. He has a huge career, and I definitely want to honor it appropriately. I am a little worried that we might not get many people to submit for a 100-song rankdown. But if we split it up by decade, I am concerned about participation being uneven due to there not being as much interest in '80s music on Pulse, as well as people being too busy to submit for 3 separate rankdowns. Also, if we split it up, then we will never know how his singles compare to each other throughout his entire career, which makes comparison a little bit less interesting... I think a 5-per-day rollout could be a great way to ease people into the list, but the only problem with that is that I don't know if anyone will actually listen to the songs as they are posted, or if they will all wait till the entire list is complete before starting anyway. In which case the rollout would just be a waste of time. So yes, I would love to hear y'all's ideas! One big rankdown, or split it up? And if I split it, how should I split it? Ultimately I reserve creative license over the final decision, but I will take your thoughts into consideration

That said, I actually just finished my rankdown (at 96 songs) and I was surprised that it didn't take me as long as initially thought...but again I'm a big fan. That said, I think many people will find they are more familiar with his full discography than they might initially realize and find it quite easy to do. For myself, I broke it down by decade's (80's-90's-00's, etc) and found that to be easiest...I added about three albums worth of singles every time and rolled along with the rankdown from there. I think that might work out well for everyone as well. I'm unsure about a good deadline for this...but if you're planning on doing it soon Dec 1st would be good I think.

I would vote for either option 1 or 2. I would much rather just do one big George Strait rankdown than separate rankdowns. If you do decide to split it up, I would vote for option 4. I'm not a fan of breaking it into decades and doing 3 small rankdowns.

bboat11 Option 1 all the way! It's really no different than a 100 song rankdown for a specific year... and with the deadline so far away, I see no issue Any option that splits his singles up.... no. They have to be in one rankdown, so they can all compete with each other. I want to see his singles ranked as a whole, not by individual decade. I think most would probably agree. Option 2 would be the only other one I'd consider, but I personally don't like the roll outs. It just takes up a lot of space in the thread, clutters up your notifications, and makes everything feel really drug out. And I don't get any more excited for the rankdown than I do by simply reading the list at once. Just my .02 lol

Just my .02 lol I think this is a good discussion to have as I personally feel overwhelmed when I see a list of 100 songs posted all at once lol. I really liked the roll out castleoblivion26 had recently for the 1998 rankdown as it allowed me to pace myself; that said maybe we don't need to post a video link for every song? I agree it does take up a lot of space in the thread, so maybe just posting a rollout with the links instead would be a better idea.

Personally there's no chance I could rank all of George's songs, so I'll pass.
For the future, how about Eric Church? Maybe Gary Allan?

bboat11 I vote for one 100-song rankdown and I don't think rolling out the songs in stages is necessary. I'm sure most of us know a good chunk of his songs already and just having the entire list posted up front makes it easier for people to work ahead, if they choose to do so. I'll probably procrastinate a little if the due date isn't for a couple months, but I also know most of his singles... and I think even the people who might not know as many won't have too much trouble with 100 songs in that time frame. :)

Holy cow, this fall will be filled with so much nostalgic rankdowns it could make someone sick (it won't be me, though, since I've become strong enough to bend the rules lately now that I feel like a brand new man *wink*).
Can I also be added as the host for the 1993 and 1989 year-end rankdowns please? Just calling dibs here; none of these will happen until after the New Year.

Alright, the George Strait rankdown has officially been started!!! I decided to just do the whole thing at once, like LBTrocks said. It's so hard to split up George's career, because ultimately the entire thing was so commercially successful that it's not like his non-#1s are any less recognizable than his #1s... Literally all of it deserves to be recognized, and all of it deserves to be recognized together. I hope to see as many people as possible participating!
