I hope that Work is not your 1.... Well congratulations, because it's not #1!
3. Work by Rihanna ft. Drake
YE position: #4
To quote The Radical Douche "F**k the haters, this song is brilliant." And yes, I do mean brilliant, because as I see it, it's about a relationship going south, on the edge of breaking actually with Rihanna feeling disconnected from her partner with the only thing connecting them being sex. And as such she thinks he's not all that devoted to her as she is to him, but she needs him to make it work. It's a sense of commitment that both of them try to achieve, but no matter how angry they are to both themselves and each other, they are willing to give it another chance. But then again, this song makes you not want to care about the verses or the relationship problems, but to focus on the chorus and just dance to it. It's a bit of Marie's "Let them eat cake" in which you could focus on the deep lyrical content of a relationship going south, or your could focus on the fun, albeit minimalist chorus and just dance. It's one of the few dancehall and reggae songs from 2016 that I love enough so much to put on my best list. You can't go wrong with most Rihanna and Drake collabs, except for Too Good though. But that's enough from me, lyrically it's great and overlooked and the production despite being unfinished is still a good dancehall song.

Okay guys, here it is, the top 2
2. Stressed Out by Twenty One Pilots
YE position: #5
1. Closer by The Chainsmokers ft. Halsey
YE position: #10
Stressed Out: Remember what I said about DLMD having the bets lyrics? I lied, lyrically this is far more superior. I'll take a song about wanting to be young and free from responsibility any day, because this rocks. Never would I have seen the day Twenty One Pilots gets in my top 3. And almost everything off of Blurryface was just amazing, and this is the bets song off the album.
Closer: The drop makes this song. Not joke, I think the chorus, the build-up the drop, Halsey herself, the harmonies between Halsey and Taggart, everything about this fits perfectly for me. It's the perfect song of 2016 for me, and make no mistake I don't kid around. This song just sticks in the brain and it never gets old for me, I still love it over a year after it's release. No matter what people have said about this song, it's the best song the Chainsmokers have released, and it only got better over time. I hate to say this, but this is a close competitor for my best of the decade. Yes, this could be a potential challenger to the great Uptown Funk! and make no mistake it's that great a song imo.
Total Score: 273/500
Will post my final thoughts, and ranking 100-1 all in one later..... tomorrow though, I promise.

Closing Thoughts: Throughout my time following Spectrum Pulse, TheDoubleAgent, Todd In The Shadows and others learning about the pop charts, I had the impression myself that 2016 was a God-awful year for pop music. However after ranking and reviewing it all in one here, I don't think it was that bad. I'd actually go so far as to say it was decent. I think the bad stuff was just really bad, like Hellish bad, and the good stuff everyone just thought didn't really stand out all that much. However I think I can say that while 2016 had it's low, low moments, I feel as though everyone keeps on forgetting about the good songs. So yeah, I think 2016 might be overhated and gets too much, and people should try to see the good, not the bad and be stuck in the past as well. So overall, I give 2016, a decent rating.Â

Fair explanation of Work. Rihanna still sounds atrocious in that one.

Thanks for the list :) But, is it just me or can I not see the difference between good and great? I see what you mean, but I think it should be a little obvious, because the great songs are much more clear green, while good songs are in a somewhat more lighter green, but not as light as decent songs.
