I literally have every song in my top ten in the actual top ten except for my #10.
I'd say this turned out okay. :kii:

I'll do just 3 for now because I have to be up in a few hours for work. I shall wrap this up by the end of Friday. #10 No Mercy - Where Do You GoThis song has an interesting backstory that I have mentioned some of in the Nostalgia section and other topics. The group was assembled together by Frank Farian (of Boney M and Milli Vanilli fame). Somehow Clive Davis discovered them and signed them to Arista. Arista had signed a lot of Dance acts around that time so it wasn't all that out of the norm. Their debut single released overseas was an unnecessary cover of Everything But The Girl’s “Missing” (which was bizarre given that the Todd Terry remix of the original EBTG song was so successful and widely available; the radio edit of that mix was even added to newer pressings of the album it came at the time from so once the single went out of print, the remix was still available). They retitled it “ Missing (I Miss You Like The Deserts Miss The Rain)”. For some other weird reason, the main single version omitted the 2nd half of the 2nd verse and the 1st half of the 3rd verse. Even if they had kept that and had not repeated the chorus over and over at the end, the length would still be identical to EBTG's original. “Where Do You Go” was their first proper single. This song was a partial cover of a song of the same name from La Bouche’s debut album. Strangely enough, the production on this was strikingly similar to the Todd Terry mix of “Missing” with the same exact beats, the guitar-driven production, and that beatless bridge section that is basically a reprise of the first verse. The German release of the single included a remix by La Bouche themselves which had some new rap by Lane McCray and included some vocals by Melanie Thornton which were sampled from the original La Bouche version. A very special edit of the album version was used as the single version. It was only released on selected editions of the CD and cassette singles. A different edit is used in the music video which bizarrely omits the 2nd verse. There were additional lyrics that are also not used in the main versions that they did perform live sometimes. The Trip Hop and Jazzy Jim mixes from the single use some of them.. Lenny Bertoldo’s X-Mix remix uses all of the lyrics. A Spanish version was also recorded and released. This went on to peak at #5. The bolded parts are the different ones. Where do you go My lovely Where do you go I wanna know My lovely I wanna know Where do you go I wanna know Where do you, where do you go You leave without a word No message or number And now my head is poundin' like rollin' thunder You left me with a heartache Deep inside Girl you should see me cry all night And I wonder Did I treat you wrong to deserve so much pain Though our love would last forever Girl I gotta know what's the name of your game Don't we still belong together Where do you go I wanna know My lovely I wanna know Where do you go I wanna know Where do you go You gotta break the silence, don't keep me waiting I need a little sign from you, and I'm prayingJust like a river flowing to the sea You are running back to me Girl, hear what I'm saying Everybody says, what a shame, what is wrong They don't like the game we play Heard you're hanging round every night until dawn I'm waiting for you night and day Where do you go I wanna know My lovely I wanna know Where do you go I wanna know Where do you I wanna know Na na na na dee da, na na dee da... Where do you, where do you go Save me Come back and dry the tears I cry for you baby Don't give me any alibis and no 'baby'sYou gotta stop this heartache Deep inside You gotta help me make it through The night, save me Come back and save me Where do you go My lovely Where do you go I wanna know My lovely I wanna know Where do you go I wanna know Subsequent singles that they released didn’t do that well. “Please Don’t Go” peaked at #21. A The Real Milli Vanill album track “When I Die” was covered and released as a single peaking at #41 and then a cover of Exile’s “Kiss You All Over” topped the Billboard Club Play chart in remixed form. Several singles from the album missed the charts entirely. Their second album was never released in the U.S. and they were quietly dropped. Last one for now. #8 2 Unlimited - Get Ready For This
The song originally came out in 1991. It was an instrumental except for the "y'all ready for this" spoken part (the Orchestral Mix) which is actually sampled from The D.O.C.'s song "It's Funky Enough". The producers of the group asked Ray Slijngaard (the rapper) to write some additional lyrics and then Ray brought in singer Anita Doth who went on to be the other member of the duo to sing. That became the new Rap Version that was more popular. For the UK release, they went with an edit of the Orchestral Mix. There was a longer version on the singles called the 12" Version which had an additional rap verse not heard in the short Rap Version. It peaked at #38 on the Hot 100. "Get Ready For This" and especially "Where Do You Go" should have been higher. Other than that, this is going well for me.

All four losses in the top ten so far have hurt, though that was to be expected with the way everything played out. At the rate these reveals have been going, though, my #1 is going to be revealed next.
...
Wait, wait, DON'T REVEAL MY #1 NEXT

Oh, that's not my #1. That's the only song remaining that wasn't in my top ten. :kii:
So that leaves 1 | 3 | 5 | 6 | 7. I'm fine with any of those winning, though I'm, obviously, rooting for my #1.

And now we are into the top 5! #5 Snap! - Rhythm Is A Dancer They had success with singles from their first album World Power. Their biggest hit came in the form of this. It featured vocals from Thea Austin and rap by Turbo B. Thea went on to do vocals for Soulsearcher and Pusaka. The original album version featured Thea’s familiar vocal refrain and two separate rap verses which almost felt like a story. They were based on an essay by John Perry Barlow called "Being in Nothingness Virtual Reality and the Pioneers of Cyberspace". This version was not all that commercial. An altered version was produced for the single release. A brand new rap verse was written replacing the other two. The full Thea refrain was used as the chorus. The video is set to this version. This peaked at #5 on the Hot 100. The song was remixed by Rollo & Sister Bliss in 1996 and then by CJ Stone in 2002. Additional remixes and updates have happened every few years since then. Apparently, I missed a perfect ranking at #14, somehow. I can't even do the one gimmick that I have right. :(
At least this latest reveal allows me to atone for my sins.
P-P-P-P-PERFECT RANKING!

These are all gut punches for me, at this point. Every song in the top five is a stone cold classic.

Dammit, so close. I love the Rapino version, but I love the original. It's a masterpiece.
Still...3 vs. 7, can't really complain. And 3 was my #2 until the last second.

Final 2! #2 Real McCoy - Another NightThis was originally released under the name MC Sar & The Real McCoy in 1993 and it was produced by The Berman Brothers. Clive Davis noticed the success of the song and signed them to Arista Records and they changed their name. New material was recorded and songs from their previous album were reworked. The group went through several lineup changes with different vocalists appearing on different songs and then different models miming to those vocals in the videos and performances. This peaked at #3 on the Hot 100. They had several other hits in the U.S. Their final charting single was called "One More Time" in 1997 that was produced by Tony Moran. They also covered Shania Twain's "If You're Not In It For Love, I'm Outta Here!" as a Dance song. And the moment you have all been waiting for... It is here! #1 La Bouche - Be My LoverThis was the 2nd single from the duo. La Bouche was an act created by Frank Farian (of Boney M and Milli Vanilli fame). “Sweet Dreams” was actually their 1st single though it was the followup in the U.S. after this was a hit. Several different music videos exist for the song. This peaked at #6 in 1996 on the Hot 100. Several other singles were released and those only did moderately well. Their cover of “Fallin’ In Love” was given a Eurodance style single mix after the original R&B/New Jack Swing original didn’t get much attention. They did release a 2nd album called S.O.S. The lead single “You Won’t Forget Me” did only moderately well. Lead vocalist Melanie Thornton left the group to pursue a solo career. She was tragically killed in a plane crash in 2001 while promoting the re-release of that solo album. A final song that was in the demo stage with some of Melanie’s vocals was finished with the help of Kayo Sheckoni (who was the new vocalist of Le Click) called “In Your Life”. La Bouche has recently reformed with rapper Lane McCray and a new vocalist named Sophie Cairo. Wow, color me surprised. I thought that "Another Night" was going to win this. In fact, it was just two points ahead of "The Rhythm of the Night".
Normally, I'd be more...erm, "upset" about my least favorite of the top five songs being #1, but I love at least 3/4 of the group of songs in this rankdown, and the songs in the top 10...lord, those songs take me to nostalgic bliss. That includes "Be My Lover", and I can't stress enough that songs 2-9 were torture to decide upon. I could have easily put both "What Is Love" and "Be My Lover" in my top five. If anything, the only thing that annoys me even a little bit is that I didn't just put "Another Night" at #2 anyway, so I could get one last perfect ranking. :kii:
Good job hosting this, Disco. See you very soon in your next RD. ;)
