She puts a few more miles between them. He pours a distance of his own. Starts talkin’ to the bottle; It’s all that’s left now that she’s gone. He rages on ’til the National Anthem Comes on his TV. Then he looks straight at the bottle, Says, “You did this to me.” And then he screams.

With this last reveal, the final single from the album becomes the first single to leave the rankdown. "It's My Time" is a spunky kiss-off anthem about a woman who decides she's had enough of her toxic relationship with an abusive alcoholic, and up and walks out to take control of her life back and spend her time the way she wants to.
This song may not be remembered as one of Martina's biggest hits, but it was plenty successful. Peaking at #11 on the charts, it may have been the lowest-peaking hit on the album, but it was no slouch. This one ended up being remembered more as a staple for her live show, where it spent many years as her opener when she was on tour. She sings the fire out of it live, as you can see in that video above, so it always got a huge crowd response.
Personally this song has gotten a little bit stale to me through the years. The way she belts this chorus is very impressive, but is one of the very few times where I find her voice to be overbearing. Part of that is the song itself, because it just has a melody that can be kinda grating when you're not in the mood for it. I still love the song, but there are songs like "Make Me Believe" that would have been much better singles, and I have no problem seeing this be the single that leaves first.

There you are In the early light of day. There you are In the quiet words I pray. I’ve been blessed By the simple happiness Of the perfect love we’ve made.

"There You Are" is the 3rd single from the album, and becomes the 2nd single to leave us. It features what was THE longest-sustained note that I have ever heard in country music, until Martina broke her own record several years later with that concluding note to "Anyway" This song peaked at #10, putting it among the elite group of songs that helped to define her career as a hit-maker and a powerful vocalist. However, it seems to be unfortunately forgotten today. She hardly ever performs it live, and it gets almost no recurrent play. It is a real shame that she has rarely performed this live through the years, as this is without a doubt one of her most impressive vocal performance songs! She posted in the liner notes of her Greatest Hits album that she doesn't particularly care for the studio version of this song very much because she tried to hold it back a little too much, but in the live performances they had turned it into more of a production, which she felt matched the song more. As you can see from the live video on the CMAs that I posted above, she delivered a performance that was filled with passion, and in the middle of that infamously massive sustained note, she suddenly jumped up to finish on a high note! I wish she had done that on the studio recording, because imo it elevates the song and makes it just that much more impressive. I do love the studio version too, but her live performances are just such a spectacle

Found a restaurant on my way. I told ‘em it was my birthday Just to hear the waiters sing off-key. Sprung a loose wire, that’s a fact. Got a strange little monkey on my back, But I kinda like the company.

With that, here is the top 3!!!! Imo this is the perfect trifecta to lead this album into the final reveals "Make Me Believe" and "This Uncivil War" are without a doubt two of her strongest album tracks, while "Love's The Only House" is a beloved hit that has earned its acclaim. Unfortunately, only one of them can reign victorious. Love’s The Only House Make Me Believe This Uncivil War
Any predictions for how this will finish up?

Oh perfect, the two songs in the Top 5 that I didn't like from this album went out first! Whew! <3
"From the Ashes" is dull and "I Love You" is like a cheap Dollar Tree knockoff of Faith Hill's "This Kiss." Thankfully the two best album cuts on this record and its best single won out in the end, but a #4 finish for this is still way too high. One of her few songs that I flat-out can't stand.
Anyway... this means my Top 3 is the same as the overall Top 3 here, so that's awesome and I'll be happy with any of them winning! Rooting for one of the album cuts to get it just for diversity's sake (and because I prefer both of those by a small margin, too). <3

I am super judging those of you who ranked this one low, and need to reiterate that the live version is INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There’s a silence on the front lines. You can cut it with a knife. You can stay and take your chances, Or you can run to save your life. And the one side is retreating, And the other’s runnin’ scared. And the drums of war are beating, Even though it’s undeclared.

"This Uncivil War" is such a gem! This is one of Martina's very best songs. The lyrics are incredible, the instrumentation is uniquely awesome, and I would go so far as to say the production is the best of her entire career. I seriously cannot get enough of this song. Hauntingly beautiful, and chill-inducing in every way. It probably wouldn't have made a very good single, but I am still so glad to see it is one of the more loved album tracks on the album!

Alright, we're down to the top 2! "Love's The Only House", versus "Make Me Believe". One a huge hit, one a widely-acclaimed album track that SHOULD have been a huge hit. Both songs managed to be #1 contenders throughout the submission process. Which one do you think ultimately came out on top???

Tell me you love me, and make me feel it. Convince me that your heart is true. Don’t say you need me if you really don’t mean it. ‘Cause boy, I ain’t nobody’s fool.
2. "Make Me Believe"
And I can’t explain it, And I can’t understand. But I’ll come down and get my hands dirty And together we’ll make a stand.

Solid winner, but I wish it had been "Make Me Believe." I can't believe it got two bottom 3 rankings. Wow.

Everlasting
I know that I said I would post this before the new year, with a deadline in mid-January, but those of you who participated in the Christmas album rankdown know why that never ended up happening... Basically I am trying to finish my Master's program by the end of January, and it is absolute hell. I haven't finished the Joy of Christmas rankdown yet, and I pushed back the 2018 one to be due in February. I am ready to open this one now, but it will not be due until after the 2018 one. So you will have plenty of time to get this done! Since this is one of her longer albums, that seems fitting Everlasting is the final studio album in our series, and it is her second-most-recent overall. This is a collection of Soul/R&B covers, which Martina recorded just for the hell of it after she realized that radio was phasing her out. While 2005's Timeless was an homage to many of the country influences that shaped her as an artist, in 2014 Martina felt the time was right to honor several of her cross-genre influences, such as Aretha Franklin, all the way up through modern pop stars such as Sade and P!nk. Everlasting was released independently, with no songs released to radio, and yet it managed to snag a spot atop the Country Albums Chart (despite not being marketed as a country album!!), thereby putting Martina down in history as the first (and so far only) female artist to ever have an independent album hit #1!! She also went on a renowned tour with this album, hiring a troupe of background vocalists as well as a horn section, which she even used to jazz up several of the arrangements of her old songs over the course of the show. The tour was a huge success, and can sometimes be found on AXS, as they turned it into a television special. The Song List:
1. Do Right Woman, Do Right Man2. Suspicious Minds3. If You Don't Know Me By Now4. Little Bit Of Rain5. Bring It On Home To Me (ft. Gavin DeGraw) 6. Come See About Me7. What Becomes Of The Brokenhearted8. I've Been Loving You Too Long9. Wild Night10. In The Basement (ft. Kelly Clarkson) 11. My Babe12. To Know Him Is To Love Him13. That's How Strong My Love Is* 14. Baby What You Want Me To Do* 15. By Your Side** 16. Perfect** * = Target Deluxe Edition Bonus Track ** = iTunes Bonus Track Rank the songs from 1-16, with #1 being your favorite, and then submit your lists to me via PM. The deadline will be set for 5 weeks from now, on Sunday, February 17th!!
