"By Your Side" just never grabbed me for some reason. I don't dislike it by any means but it just doesn't compare to half the album for me. Maybe I'll give it more of a listen to see if my feelings for it change.
ETA: "I've Been Loving You Too Long" just doesn't work for me and that along with my #15 & #16 are the only tracks I don't listen to at all, speaking of, where is my #16???!!!

"I've Been Loving You Too Long" is another stripped-down ballad for Martina. If you listen to Otis Redding's original, it has a huge build to it with horns and stuff leading up to that explosive and iconic "You are tiiiiiiiired" line. Martina said that they recorded a version of this that was more along the lines of the original, and then somebody got the idea of taking that out and just seeing what it sounded like stripped down. They loved the stripped version so much it ended up making the album instead!
I do love this song, but personally I hope the original version that they recorded gets released someday. This is almost one too many stripped ballads for one album, which I think may have prevented this song from standing out. The extra oomph of the full-band version would have probably been a nice thing to have in the middle of this album.

Finally! Huge fan of Mrs. McBride, but this was not her vocal masterpiece.

"Little Bit Of Rain" should have been Top 10 over "My Babe", easily! Disappointed at this one.

Just barely missing the top 10, we say goodbye to one of the pre-release tracks from the album. We also say goodbye to SHOOTER 's #1, meaning that I am mercifully not the only one to lose their #1 outside of the top 10! "Little Bit Of Rain" is a very simple, relaxing song. It is definitely one that is perfect for sitting and watching the rain with a warm cup of coffee or something in your hand. It just doesn't have a lot of meat on its bones, and that is what prevents me from loving it more. Still think it's an awesome song, but this is right about where it belongs imo. Martina did randomly put out a few music videos from this album, and this was one of the songs that got the lucky treatment! Combined with the fact that it was a pre-release track, with its own official cover art, that all leads me to believe that it is probably one she would have pushed to get a release as a single had they tried to get any hits from the album.

"Little Bit Of Rain" was the 2nd most polarizing song of the rankdown. Up next, beating it by only two points, we have the MOST polarizing song of the rankdown!!!

"Little Bit Of Rain" was the 2nd most polarizing song of the rankdown. Up next, beating it by only two points, we have the MOST polarizing song of the rankdown!!! Of course this hint referred to the fact that the driving instrument in the arrangement of "My Babe" is in fact a harmonica! It is hard to tell, because it's so heavily filtered and electronicized, but that's what gives that song such a distinctive sound! "My Babe" is a catchy song, but imo it is one I could have lived without. It doesn't really add anything to the album or to Martina's career. I think it's far from the worst on the album, but this is a good time for it to be leaving.

"Do Right Woman, Do Right Man" is absolutely a standout on this album, imo. I was hoping it would get closer to the top 5 :( Martina does Queen Aretha proud with her version of this song! I fully expected Martina would make the obvious and basic choice of performing "You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman" for this album, as she has been killing it in her live show for multiple decades now, but instead she dug a little deeper in her honoring of the Queen of Soul. You have to give her props for her artistic vision, as this song is perfect for the album! I believe Aretha herself came to join Martina in the studio for the recording of this song, and helped give her some tips to make it truly shine, before giving it the Aretha Stamp of Approval. What an honor for Martina

I’m searching though I don’t succeed. For someone’s love there’s a growing need. All is lost; there’s no place for beginning. All that’s left is an unhappy ending.

can "Perfect" leave? I like it but not as much as the others. If it has to be one of the other ones I'd say "Wild Night"
