It's the moment you may or may not have been waiting for all day! The next Martina McBride album, as voted on by the last rankdown's participants, is...

Evolution



Evolution is Martina's 4th album, released on August 26, 1997. Upon release, this album peaked at #4 on the Country Albums chart, and #24 on the Billboard 200. At this point in time, it has been certified 3x Platinum for selling 3-million + copies! Which is no surprise, since this is widely regarded to be Martina's career-defining album. This album is appropriately named, as it ushered in a new era for her that truly proved to be an evolution for her career. While her first 3 albums were very good, and even led to her first #1 in "Wild Angels" and career song with "Independence Day", it was with Evolution that she proved that she was here to stay. While riding the momentum from this era, Martina became the closest thing to an A-list artist that she ever was (she never quite broke through into the A-list, but she came close with this album!) This album saw 6 singles released, 2 of which hit #1 ("A Broken Wing" and "Wrong Again"), 2 #2 hits ("Whatever You Say" and "Happy Girl"), and 2 songs which peaked right around the top 10 ("Valentine" and "Still Holding On").

Let me just warn you right now, this is going to be one helluva rankdown! I tried creating my list yesterday, and of the 14 songs, there are at least 9 that I wish could have placed at #1! I can guarantee, you either already love this album or are going to love it once you listen to it for the first time. I seriously have no idea what to expect from the results though! Since there are so many awesome songs, there is also a lot of potential for songs that people love to get low votes, just because there are so many quality songs... So our winner will come down to whichever song is able to establish the most consistency up top, which I am not even going to try to predict yet.

Oh man, I'm excited for this one! There seriously isn't a single song on Evolution that I dislike, so this is gonna be a tough one for me. Just glancing through that list there are three or four songs I can see myself putting at #1. Guess I'll be listening to this album today! :)

Yep, this was a hard one. I listened to this entire album last night, and man I forgot how much I love this one. I got my rankings submitted though, knowing good and well that my list could be totally different if I were to do it again. If I could I would have had a four or five way tie for #1, and it kind of hurt to put songs that I love so much in the bottom four lol. I also realized looking up that this was released on my tenth birthday...fun fact!

I only knew my bottom two going in. Figuring out which songs I liked more than others was almost impossible. So I feel bad about ranking a bunch of songs I genuinely like in the lower half of this list.

Happy-ish with the results, a little bummed my #1 didn't make the top 5 but it's such a strong album I can't complain.

Very happy "Summer Of Love" did much better than I expected. Honestly thought that was going out early!

Can't wait to see 'Evolution' happen and hopefully I'll actually be around for it!

Evolution is easily one the best country albums of the last 30 years. Even the last place track here is better than most songs from most other albums. And, outside of "Be That Way", they really got the singles right with this album too. Had it not been for Evolution, I don't know if Martina would have ever ascended to that level of stardom and acclaim that she so richly deserved.

Yes, Eleven is a great album, but Evolution is seriously one of those albums that most artists spend their entire career just trying to make. Absolutely perfect from start to finish (once you get through the intro)! I really hope you are able to participate in this one too!

So I'm listening to this album to rank the songs... and wtf is this, Evolution is so awesome, like what? I can see why everyone praises this album.

Edit: Also "Whatever You Say" has grown on me a lot for those of you who remember me ranking that song low in the Martina McBride rankdown
