Bonus: "I'm Sorry" - Blake Shelton
Blake is a superstar from the generation that came after Martina, so he has always idolized her a little bit. They are obviously friends, and have little back-and-forths on Twitter every once in awhile, which is awesome because they both have such great senses of humor. Blake's may be a little bit more in-your-face, but Martina's wit is every bit as quick as his. I once saw him talking about how hard it was to make a setlist when you have been in the music industry for so long, and she disparaged his success by pointing out that she had been around for twice as long as him or something like that Anyway, she appeared on his Red River Blue album, singing background vocals on "I'm Sorry". Fantastic song!

Bonus: "Live This Life" - Big & Rich
Big & Rich famously burst onto the scene around 2004 with their own special brand of raucous country music, of course spearheaded by the iconic "Save A Horse (Ride A Cowboy)". Their debut album is actually really strong, despite their polarizing nature as artists! "Live This Life" is one of the album tracks from that album, and imo is among the best things they have ever put out. Martina sings background vocals on this song, and imo this is actually one of her most epic background vocal performances. I VERY heavily considered including this song in this rankdown, but ultimately decided to cut it for the sake of conciseness. But ugh, her background vocals just add such an eerie and ominous dimension to the second half of this song It's incredible!

Bonus: "Fool, I'm A Woman" - Sara Evans
Around 1998 when Sara was first breaking through and Martina was starting to become one of the top hit-making females in the genre, they both appeared on the CMT Girls' Night Out tour alongside Lorrie Morgan and Mindy McCready. Around the same time period, as a result of their friendship and RCA label affiliation, they ended up appearing on each other's albums! Sara appeared twice on Martina's Evolution album as a background vocalist on both "Whatever You Say" and "Wrong Again", while Martina appeared on Sara's No Place That Far album as a background vocalist on "Fool, I'm A Woman".

The third Greatest Hits reject bows out to kick off the top 10. The fact that this made the top 10 though insinuates that this probably would have been pretty well-liked if it had been included on the actual GH album. I don't think it quite has the same hit potential as the four songs that ended up being included, but it would have been interesting to see how things turned out if this song had been included instead of one of them!

"On My Own" was practically a top 5 contender until Kanenrá:ke tanked it into oblivion at the very end Anyway, this all-star collaboration is incredible enough in studio, but y'all should definitely check out the live video I posted above! These four ladies are literally PERFECT performers

This song wasn't the only song that failed to finish as high as it was supposed to because of Kanenrá:ke's low rank right at the end... I'll let you guys chew on that tidbit for a bit while we dive further into the top 10

"Harper Valley PTA" is a classic, and Martina absolutely does it justice! The studio version from the Desperate Housewives soundtrack is very traditional, almost like it was recorded as part of the Timeless album and then didn't make the final tracklist or something. But around this same time period she was also performing a live version of it that was still very traditional, but modernized. The live video I posted above is the arrangement, but she has a much better recording of it on her 2004 On Target cd (the same one that first featured "Being Myself"). I would have put that live version in this rankdown, but decided not to because I am sure that none of y'all have the On Target cd and that exact performance really can't be found on YouTube... Lol.
I was a little shocked this managed to make the top 10, but it ended up staying there for basically the entire submission process!

"Nashville Girls" didn't have nearly as much top 10 votes as everything else in the top 10, but it really didn't have any low ranks either! The majority of the ranks fell in the teens, which was enough to help it last this long since every other song around it was more of a victim of tanking :) This song is incredible. Literally my four favorite female vocalists on one track! I was in heaven when I discovered this existed just a couple years ago It is too bad Terri's parent album for this song remains unreleased, because I would have liked to see this tried at radio...

In what I am sure nobody is surprised by given everything else that is left, Alan Jackson's "Never Loved Before" bows out just shy of the top 5. I remember when this album came out there was a bit of fanfare around this track. People always talk about it like it would have made a great single. Given its performance here, I'd have to agree! At this point in Alan and Martina's careers, I think they could have turned this into a fairly sizable hit! But no, Alan gave us "Country Boy" instead...

As just about everybody predicted, this came down to the 4 Greatest Hits singles! I am not at all surprised, as those are four of the most iconic and well-known songs of her entire career. They are all representative of a diversely-talented artist who was at her creative peak, each representing a different aspect of Martina's personality as an interpretive vocalist and recording artist. All four were huge hits. You may have noticed that other than ClevelandRox, NOBODY else has lost their #1 yet! It probably goes without saying that every song remaining has multiple #1 ranks. Now we have confirmed that these four songs are the top 4, as people suspected. But how will this play out?! Were these songs close, or was there a runaway winner and loser? Will it come down to "Where Would You Be" on top, as predicted by tim and .indulgecountry? Will dub get his wish and see "Blessed" or "When God-Fearin' Women Get The Blues" in victory lane? Does "Concrete Angel" have the advantage since it finished the highest in Martina's singles rankdown? Does "Blessed" have the advantage because it was the only #1 hit of the bunch? Does "Where Would You Be" have the advantage because of how her stans regard it as her most impressive vocal performance? Or does "When God-Fearin' Women" have the advantage because it is slightly less popular than the other three, so it is less likely to have a target on its back for tanking? Stay tuned to find out in moments!!! {Spoiler...for real} We still have yet to see one of the songs that Kanenrá:ke viciously tanked at the last minute........

Firmly mired at #4, we find the biggest hit of the bunch, chart-wise. "Blessed" is her final #1 radio hit to date, but just does not seem to have quite as much fanfare on Pulse as the other Greatest Hits singles. You can see from the trajectory that this was #4 for basically the entire submission process! Ultimately, this had no chance of finishing anywhere else. Nothing else even came CLOSE to beating this into the top 4; this song finished at 70 points, which is literally half of "Trip Around The Sun's" 146 However, it had no chance of tasting the top 3, as it finishes a solid 16 points behind #3. That gap was almost twice that size for most of the submission process though!

Now for the top 3...where the battle was MUCH closer!!! All three were #1 contenders at various points. Are you ready to see which one was lucky enough to finish at #1 when it mattered most??

Yassssss! I'm glad my prediction was wrong because "Concrete Angel" SLAYS. I'm so happy it won. What an incredible song. WWYB getting robbed of a top 2 finish kinda sucks imo, because I definitely think the vocal performance on that is incredible and made for the only song that might've contested "Angel" for my #1.

I wasn't prepared for this triple knockout finish post! I'm so happy for Concrete Angel! I remember watching CMT before catching the bus for school, and the Concrete Angel video came on and hit me so hard I was sobbing when the bus came and just skipped school that day. 😭😭

Alright y'all, get your tomatoes ready for Kanenrá:ke ... "Where Would You Be" was supposed to finish at #2 here. "When God-Fearin' Women" was #1 at the beginning, but slipped behind the other two pretty quickly. WWYB took over at #1 in the middle, but ultimately "Concrete Angel" got so much love that it just could help but sneak above towards the end. All three songs remained relatively close though, to where a low top-half ranking from Jordan was enough to send WWYB back a position at the very last minute! I was secretly hoping that WGFWGTB would be able to sneak into the top 2, but I was hoping it would be at the expense of CA rather than WWYB... A WWYB/WGFWGTB would have been my ideal finish, but I was prepared to settle for CA/WWYB. However, having WWYB be the one to miss was a hard pill to swallow, as it is probably my favorite Martina song of all time! Lol I really can't complain THAT much though, because all three songs put up a hell of a fight, and they are obviously my top 3, so I'm still very happy with this finish "Concrete Angel" is without a doubt one of her most iconic songs, and that MUSIC VIDEO!!!!!!! OMG!!! If you can watch that without crying, you must either be a Flop or a Tin Man!

If I had posted just WWYB, then nobody would have been surprised to see WGFWGTB at #2... Lol

Thank you very much to everybody who participated or followed along!!! This was a very interesting rankdown to host, and I am overall very happy with the way this all turned out. I wasn't sure if anybody would even participate, with so many random songs... Lol. But you all came through, and I am so appreciative :)
Now, this Martina McBride album series is just about finished...but not quite done yet!!! Our final step is to have a final showdown of all of her best album tracks, as decided by you guys throughout this series! I will post more information about that throughout the coming week :) Start getting excited now!!

What a great finish! I wasn’t quite participating yet in rankdowns when Martina McBride’s singles rankdown was completed two summers ago so this gave me the opportunity to rank some of those songs here. I get the love for and appreciate “Where Would You Be” but that isn’t a song that I could listen to over and over again like I can when it comes to the top two finishers. “Concrete Angel” has always been one of those songs that pulls me in with the lyrics and Martina’s emotional vocal performance really brings it to life and stops me in my tracks every time. Thanks again bboat11 for being another fabulous host!

Wait a minute. I forgot a couple of tidbits! This rankdown is the first rankdown to ever have the top 4 be the 4 lowest standard deviation songs, in the correct order! This comes shortly on the heels of Cody Wants Out...'s Lady A Golden album RD having the bottom 3 with the 3 lowest SDs of the rankdown. Another tidbit: For multiple years now, Martina has held the record for the highest rankdown finish EVER, as "Independence Day" won her artist rankdown with an average score of 8.23 out of 100. Nobody else has ever really come close. Lol Mark Chesnutt was the next closest, when "Bubba Shot The Jukebox" got an average score of 10.86 out of 100. Well... History has just been made!!!! Martina has beaten herself!!!! "Concrete Angel" finishes here with an average score of 6.88, absolutely demolishing "Independence Day"'s record! As if that is not cool enough... "When God-Fearin' Women Get The Blues" ALSO finishes this rankdown with the highest-finishing second-place average of all time!! Its average score is 9.58 out of 100, which vaporizes Reba McEntire's record when "The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia" finished with 12.87 in her artist rankdown.
