"Mr. Custer" - Larry Verne
"Honey"- Bobby Goldsboro
"Dominique"- The Singing Nun
Expand your horizons, there's been horrible songs hitting #1 on the Hot 100 since the very early days.

When this question was asked as a thread a few months ago, the answers seemed to lean more toward the last 15 years then too. I wonder how many of us have listened to every number one and can legitimately answer this? I've listened to every single #1 since July 1955 to the present. Trust me, there is garbage music produced in EVERY decade.

Oh, you actually reminded me of a couple from the early days: Hollywood Argyles - Alley Oop Johnny Preston - Running Bear (similar vein to "Mr. Custer", how on earth did both of those songs hit #1?) And if we could go back to the pre-Hot 100 days: Sheb Wooley - The Purple People Eater Bad popular music has existed for years and years and years.

The RCHP sample is incredible but the vocals genuinely hurt my ears.

If I MUST pick one I'd probably go with Disco Duck.
But somehow I have always loathed Ebony and Ivory.

personally, I think it's one of Madonna's worst songs, as well as the worst of her #1 hits. For a party song, it's pretty weaksauce, the production's a mess, it's not very catchy in my opinion and Madonna is full on using auto tune and in not a very creative way. She's made much better songs than this, especially when it comes to dance songs.

^ Madonna's, Music was hoisted by some incredible remixes though. I opted for most of them over the single version.
Stevie B's, Because I Love You (The Postman song) gets my vote as the worst #1.

1960s: Bobby Vinton - "Mr. Lonely" 1970s: Debby Boone - "You Light Up My Life" 1980s: Mr. Mister - "Kyrie" 1990s: Destiny's Child - "Bills, Bills, Bills" 2000s: Soulja Boy - "Crank Dat' 2010s: Usher - "OMG"
Overall, I'd have to give it to "Crank Dat". And yes, I recognize that there are a lot of cheesy and silly songs from the '60s and '70s, but they at least tend to have a certain innocence or lightheartedness to them that makes them hard for me to really hate (and I'd even consider some of them to be guilty pleasures). Some of the ones from the 21st century are just obnoxious.

If we're talking about specific songs, London Bridge is the worst. Fergie is obnoxious as all Hell, the production is a cluttering mess of percussion and awful trumpets, and the metaphor for her "London Bridge falling down" is one of the worst lyrics I've ever heard. superdroid73: "personally, I think it's one of Madonna's worst songs, as well as the worst of her #1 hits. I always find it interesting how two people can have such a different opinion of something!

Stevie B's, Because I Love You (The Postman song) gets my vote as the worst #1. How the hell is Postman song a bad song? Because it's a boring AC ballad from the early 90s that hit #1 that I swear no one remembers. Hell, Lionel Richie's AC ballads like Hello and Say You Say Me are more memorable and better than this sludge. And why to they call this the Postman Song again, does this have anything to do with a postman at all?

^Crank That is amazingggggg Its so fun lol Boom Boom Pow and Laffy Taffy are soo much worse IMO. yeah, no way. It's as awful as everyone as everyone says it is. Soulja Boy himself is the worst part of the song with his constant howling and the song is very insufferable. It's not fun at all. Even as a ringtone rap song, Ive heard better ones. Also, he's one of the worst rappers of all time. I also partially blame him for hip hop's decline in quality on the mainstream. The only noteworthy thing about it is that it was the first viral hit song, that's it. There's better rap dance songs out there. This had no business being a #1 hit. Amazing is the last thing anyone should say to describe Crank That and Soulja Boy in general.

Most people don't remember it because 90's stations and nostalgia stuff tend to phase out adult contemporary sounding hits, but it was overplayed in 1991. And Stevie B also had other songs, he was big in the Latin freestyle community. I think people that were really paying attention to music in 1991 and were listening to pop radio that year probably remember it, or at least they would if they listened to how it went. In conclusion, yes it was a thing.

"Ringo" by Lorne Greene (who? most people here probably don't remember Bonanza) Anyway, it's a boring, talking country story song in the vein of
"Big Bad John" only that one at least had an interesting story to tell, and no it has nothing to do with the Beatle.

I'll admit that I have a soft spot for that song because of Bonanza and Ben Cartwright, but I can also completely understand why someone would dislike it. It's otherwise exactly as you described it.
